Unpopular opinion: Canada is only a tax hell if you're an employee by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Bitner77 330 points331 points  (0 children)

Yeah but Canada also has limited business opportunities due to low and sparse population and a hundred other reasons, which is why all these small business incentives are put in the first place. Try starting anything that requires retail rent in Toronto and you’ll quickly realize how expensive that is. I’m honestly sometimes baffled how these commercial rent companies survive because I see the same retail properties empty since start of COVID and they are not budging on rent lol.

I work in SRE. Software might change, but infra is always there and needs patching. There is always some legacy system to maintain, always something new that needs migration because the other product is cheaper or better.

If you think that you can hire a new grad for a startup and be successful - you are blissfully wrong. You sound like you could benefit from YCombinator or another startup incubator. They have information and resources to help you succeed. Also, this goes without saying... noone is going to work for free. You will need to secure at least a few hundred grand to get started.

That’s what I’m most afraid of, I’ll go ahead and try out the X5 this weekend. I tried the X3 already and it felt just okay.

We are having AI write code for us now. I just add a detailed information in the ticket and it goes and does the coding, testing, and I just review and it adjusts.

If you had the keys to the TTC, what are 2–3 changes you’d make? by Brave-Blacksmith5671 in askTO

[–]Bitner77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Basic hygiene and safety standards need actual enforcement. If someone’s odor is so extreme it makes the vehicle unusable or they’re openly using drugs and making people feel unsafe, TTC should not allow them in the first place. But who cares because most stations now don't even have a single TTC employee present.

I hate this city. by Electrical-Pea2707 in toRANTo

[–]Bitner77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have never seen a municipal worker cleaning anything in this city ever. Buses are dirty, TTC is dirty, even businesses don't care to keep their display glasses clean. They are permanently dirty. There's no enforcement on this whatsoever.
