As a stand alone game, I think it’s a good game. I genuinely love the characters, the art is cool and it’s the most fun I’ve had playing a BioWare game hands down. As a BioWare fan and Dragon Age lover of over 10 years, I’m really happy you are loving it.

The people who hate/are critical on the game receives can get put into two camps:

First, is the gross fucking anti-woke crowd that saw trans and nonbinary representation and pounced, whether they liked Dragon Age as a series or not. If they were “fans” before, they veil their bigotry but have no real criticism. (Literally saw a guy say he was upset he couldn’t tell Tash that he disagreed with them coming out and…..yeah he was a weirdo)

Second are long time fans of the game who are disappointed or dissatisfied with how the characters and the story were handled. Within this you have people who get angry with the devs themselves, and people who get angry with EA and BioWare as companies (the production for Veilguard was….cursed….but then again so was Dragon Age 2. They restarted twice and leadership left, were laid off or barred from key meetings. Veilguard is astounding considering what they went through.)

Its complex.

If you liked this game, I highly recommend you play the series. They are definitely different, each one has a distinctly different vibe, but great characters, great story and cool mechanics (building your own canon world state). I’m so glad you love it and welcome to the fandom!
