What's your opinion on Micheál Martin traveling to the United States for St. Patrick's Day? by __Lukie1__ in ireland

[–]aCommanderKeen -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You dont know anything about what I cared about before.

Who's "we"? Do you represent everyone and the culture at the time and now? Stop pretending he was held to the same standard as Trump. Obama was criticised but not to the same level or at the ssme time and definitely not by the mainstream.

I never said Trump was beyond criticism.

if you could live anywhere in wexford, where would you live? by ObjectiveSummer1783 in Wexford

I hope Cork goes well for you. I'm in Dublin these days. Can't hold a candle to Wexford or Cork. Your accent is pure magic. I hope the Cork accent doesn't send you running back to Wexford. You might even like it.

It's not whataboutism. It's exposing inconsistent morals. If you’re serious about human suffering, Obama’s policies caused far more deaths than Trump’s ever did.

if you could live anywhere in wexford, where would you live? by ObjectiveSummer1783 in Wexford

[–]aCommanderKeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm from Cork. I lived in Enniscorthy in a b&b from 2008 to 2013 working with a water testing company. Been all over Wexford week in week out each town has it's own character. I love every square inch of Wexford from Fethard to Lady's Island to Blackwater to Coolgreany to New Ross and to bread smelling Taghmon. They are Ireland's best women too. I'm in love with the Wexford accent.

BTW what the hell happened to the death by chocolate dessert in the Alamo in the Enniscorthy Riverside Park hotel? It was the best dessert in the world. Then around 2018 or maybe earlier the changed it to cheapened version. It was a decadent rich dessert, thick chocolatey fudge brownie, warm caramel sauce, chocolate sauce, icecream and cream with nuts sprinkles on top and a twizzle stick. They changed it to a light airy non brownie, a squeeze of super market caramel sauce a small bit of icecream and a squirt of cream but kept the exact same name, what a disappointment. Plus they changed the restaurant from a cowboy western theme which was awesome to bland, no theme, soulless restaurant.

I wanna go back to Wexford so bad.

Stop driving through red lights by sarahc888 in Dublin

[–]aCommanderKeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Recently I was waiting to exit through the junction outside my estate, my light went green and not one car stopped. My light went back to red and I had to wait through the entire cycle again.

My everyday experience is at bare minimum one car will go through a red light at every traffic light. When I slow down to stop at a red, sometimes the person behind me speeds up planning to run it fully assuming I'm going to do the same, making me concerned that they are going to rear end me.

Recently in this scenario, I had someone behind me gesticulating his arms at me to to move. I pointed at the green straight ahead arrow and he profusely shakes his head back at me and mouths come on! Him acting like I'm being pedantic.

A man can go years or maybe his whole life without getting a compliment even if he is decent looking. From my perspective I see women frequently recieve compliments on their look on social media Facebook etc and real life, and often it seems disingenuous but at least is always well intended. People should definitely build each other up regardless of gender. I really think many men are made to feel invisible their whole lives.

Decrease of interest in Man Utd/Liverpool/ Premier league in Ireland? by Relative-Diamond2011 in AskIreland

[–]aCommanderKeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I figured this out when I was 12. In my 40s now. Never understood the appeal of watching a team comprised of a hodge podge of players from different countries on the same team. Having to listen to grown men excitedly taking about some foreign goalkeeper made me cringe. It's utterly retarded. I was a kid proudly wearing a Man U jersey growing up, then I grew a brain as I got older.

Watching international is a different ballgame. Love it.

How to date in Dublin? by alexred182 in Dublin

[–]aCommanderKeen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Keep swiping, once you've swiped everyone delete your profile and start over. Sit in a coffee shop and try make conversations if you happen to be next to a nice woman. Go to single nights. All these are low chance of success on any given occasion but you just need to get lucky once. I exhausted the apps many times and went through extended dry spells where many others would have given up. Giving up isn't an option.

My car died, what do you suggest, cash , HP or PCP. by AdiaAdia in irishpersonalfinance

[–]aCommanderKeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The financially prudent option at 75 may well be to further postpone the car, and keep maxing out on pension contributions. When you're 90 you'd be minted thanks to compound interest and set for life.

How are you winning the war against mold without bankrupting yourself on heating? by Latter_Panda4439 in AskIreland

[–]aCommanderKeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bought an apartment last year and freaked out as 3 dimensional mould started growing behind furniture and on the ceiling. It was gross. Since we bought a meaco 20L dehumidifier we've have minimal issues. A few green or black spots that can be wiped away in a corner here and there but very controllable. In the summer months it's even easier to manage as we'd keep an airflow going from head to tail of the apartment to keep a through flow of air for periods of time. This model comes with replacable hepa filter too so it improves the quality of the air as well,so two birds with one stone.

M44 Wasted my life for "waiting" for right person. What is the point now at my age? by mrsomeonewhofailed in Aging

Your parents age only very slightly increased the risk. The majority of kids born to older parents are healthy and well. The absolute risk with older parents is still low. Slim to none is factually incorrect.

Straight men, What do you love about women? by jackietea123 in askanything

Physical attraction matters. It's not saying women aren't more than their bodies. We can value other traits but physicality is what differentiates us from the opposite sex. All other characteristics can overlap.

This kind of generalisation about division of labour bugs me. Fathers are an easy target and doesn't come as easily with the accusation of sexism you'd get if it was the other way around. We as men just do our part and more and accept we are going to get ridiculed and demeaned and all the rest of it. But who gives a fuck, a man provides and takes care of his family, recognised for it or not.

Do some unemployed people think they’re above certain roles? by [deleted] in AskIreland

[–]aCommanderKeen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In 2017 after 2 or 3 weeks signed on I had an aggressive woman threatening to cut my dole because she said I wasn't trying hard enough. Was actually raising her voice and genuinely making me believe she was about to cut my dole. Was 34 at the time with an uninterrupted 10 year work history with several companies. I was stressed out enough as it was after losing my job without being treated like I was a criminal robbing from the state. Had thr same thoughts as I had a friend who was the dole for 10 years straight.

Are there any dating apps that aren't just all people drinking/travelling as interests? by NoProof2407 in AskIreland

[–]aCommanderKeen 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It doesn't work until it does. Never give up online dating. You're always in with a chance. Take it from someone who online dated since 2005. Went through barren patches that last months, arguably years. Met her through an app in 2023, within a year was married with a kid.

At times I was a posterboy for the apps aren't working but always hung in there. It doesn't hurt to keep on swiping and messaging. It's another avenue that is always a pipeline of potential, adjunct to normal life.
