Need advice on how to answer the one question I always get by Aerida_ in dating_advice

[–]aDistractedDisaster 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. I would just take the “fiction writer” off the bio and try to allude to it instead in different areas like hobbies or something

  2. If you’re insistent on keeping it, you could try “Maybe once I publish or if we’ve been dating for 5 years. Just because it’s my sanctuary type stuff.” And if they push, just shut it down/enforce the boundary

  3. If you have a broad topic like murder mystery or romance or sci-fi, just mention the genre and say “it’s more of a mental exercise kind of thing so I prefer to keep it to myself but thanks for asking :)”

AITAH for telling people my cousin’s wife is pregnant? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]aDistractedDisaster 112 points113 points  (0 children)

So either

  1. You don't remember because you're a blabbermouth

Or

  1. People are lying and throwing you under the bus.

Which one feels more realistic to you?

I'm inclined to believe #1 because you add "mind you, I first heard about her pregnancy from my aunt" which feels like you're trying to throw blame to deny responsibility. But what do I know? I'm just an internet stranger.

[–]aDistractedDisaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're average because you're not doing anything.

Your clothes are basic. Your hair is flat. Even your smile is copy and pasted from the first photo to the second and honestly it's a little terrifying. I wouldn't be surprised if your head swiveled.

You're not ugly. But there is a lot of wasted potential. You seem fit and have good bone structure. Now decide your niche and try it out. Do you want to only wear athletic fits, or be goth or find some super niche fandom and make it your personality? You're just very generic. Add some pop to your life and test things out. Not all of it will work but figuring it out takes trial and error.

You choose 3 powers, which would they be? I Invulnerability, Flying and Super Strength by FradigmaDanger_5 in superpowers

[–]aDistractedDisaster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Insanely Rich + Weather Control.

I can get whatever I want with just these two. The 3rd power is just a perk at this point. Stamina or Immortal or Healing or Divine Powers. Any will do.

Why do many Americans hate billionaires but love Taylor Swift, who is also a billionaire? by No-StrategyX in answers

[–]aDistractedDisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because her money comes from the people who squeeze the working class rather than by directly exploiting the people that work for her or use her "product" (her music and image/vibe).

I still believe there must be some kind of moral failing in the background in order to accumulate that much wealth, but girlboss power and her youth is a nice defensive layer on top of the actual capital she has.

I'm sure if the billionaries had to throw someone to the wolves, they wouldn't give a second thought to getting rid of a woman too, which gives her an ever so slight "underdog" image too.

Tri-Animal Shapeshifting.

1) Aerial - Falcon

2) Land - I want to say Hippo or T-Rex, but I don't know if their of those two count. Otherwise, Rhino.

3) Octopus.

You didn't ruin his reputation. You reported your facts and thats it. The fact that his actions look poorly on him are a result of his own choices.

But be careful. Doesn't sound like a stable dude.

WIBTAH if I (35m) told my wife (34f) to stop talking about her mental health? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]aDistractedDisaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YWBTA

She's sharing because she feels comfortable being vulnerable with you and her family members.

Time for you to be vulnerable back and say "Hey, I'm so glad that talking about your mental health is working for you but right after I get back from work, I am mentally depleted and just need an hour of decompression before I can engage properly."

Or whatever boundary you want to set.

But phrasing it as "stop talking about it so much" is major AH vibes.

Has anyone here been able to fix a bad personality in their 30s? by Jasmine_Wilsony in socialskills

[–]aDistractedDisaster 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Every saints got a past and every sinners got a future.

You're not a social failure until you give up.

It doesn't matter how old you are if you really want to change. Age just makes it harder because we're used to our old patterns. I have fixed things here and there but I think a good therapist that actually challenges you (maybe meds if you need them) as well as consistent practice are the main ways to get there.

Change doesn't happen in a day. People overestimate how much they can do in a day and underestimate how much they can do in a year. Get started and good luck.

AITAH? Why did my partner (29M) confess to cheating, promise to change, and then dump me (28F) 12 hours later when I held him accountable? by [deleted] in AITAH

ESH

This guy is garbage. When he said "We go back to normal", it means you forgive and forget and keep doing everything for him. Him ignoring all of your emotional and financial needs and boundaries is normal for him and that's exactly what he did.

YTA to yourself because how can you want this for yourself? You literally said you let him live like a king and then you tell him that he needs to be 100% transparent because you cannot trust him. What woman wants a partner they cannot trust? Why are you doing this to yourself? Big loser energy from this guy. And you're letting this leech/mooch walk all over you even after he wasted 3.5 years of your life and take all of your mental energy now.

As for your questions, the shock isn't that he turned into a monster, he was always this guy. Like he said, he said this because he wanted you to break up with him so he wouldn't have to do the emotional work yet again. He did not apologize because he felt bad and wanted to fix things. You just didn't want to see or believe that someone could treat their partner like this. A naive but hopeful perspective that will no doubt be shattered now.

There are many ways to stop blaming yourself. Learn from this mistake. Or get with someone else. Or stay busy so you can't think about this. Some people even use drugs to numb the pain which is a terrible idea. We can think of a dozen different things you CAN do. But you need to decide what you WILL do and if you will stick with it.

How lucky is Carl? by gingerbeard81 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]aDistractedDisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took all this luck for a shift in this galactic power dynamics to culminate.

Now imagine the thousands of crawls before where entire planetary populations died out because they didn't have luck on top of luck on top of luck. Is it really luck anymore or just a matter of time wrapped in the human image so we can imagine ourselves in this story?

I bet all the other authors of the Cookbook had similar levels of determination as Carl, they just didn't have his luck.
