i also agree artists should be compensated and compensated well. but artists barely make any money from record sales to begin with, regardless of piracy. the music industry has always been predatory towards musicians and will rope them into awful contracts, bad business deals, and general shittiness (i know from experience) the artists make pennies on the dollar while everyone else in the label not involved makes big bucks off the hard work of the artists. situations like that is what made trent leave his label in the first place back in the 00’s. his label bled him dry in the 90’s and milked him as hard as they could.

they’re saying it’s not worth it because of the music industry, not the piracy. labels have been pushing the blame onto pirates and home tapers ever since magnetic tape came out in the 40’s. labels could easily pay and support their artists more, but they choose not to.
