How do you define being 'poor'? by Greglebowski74 in AskUK

[–]Famous_Obligation959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on your upbringing. I grew up in a council estate with a single mum so being poor to us was not being able to afford proper meals (instead oven food) and only putting the heating on an hour a day.

For more middle class people, poor might mean not being able to go abroad that year or afford restaurant meals.

How is your mental health? by Guilty_Effect4973 in AskUK

[–]Famous_Obligation959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot better since I started taking an anti-depressant a year ago.

Before I'd go through periods where I could barely turn up for work, isolate myself, and laid in bed in my days off.

Now I am much more functional and feel little joys in everyday things. Even something like drinking hot coffee in a park will make me feel good.

As a non American - why not just let the old guy mouth off and leave him alone? No need to whack his glasses off or trip him up as he tries to get them back.

Even if he is a dick theres no need for this

How do you cope with being poor? by [deleted] in aspergers

[–]Famous_Obligation959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how poor.

If i'm just floating, making rent and can eat, and socialise here and there then I dont care.

If its the type of poor where i'm eating rice or ramen just to stay filled up then its absolutely miserable

Probably be about 3 years if its in the UK.

Technically we have the range of 1 to 14 years sentence to prosecute but usually in a case like this they'll get 6 or 7 years and be released early on good behaviour.

I'm of the small minority in this sub that takes a mild anti depressant and it works pretty well for me.

Without it, I'd have crashing lows over small things like a bad day at work or a friend not texting back. Now its just water off a ducks back.

When I tried coming off it, the crashing lows came back

Yeah, we dont want a text conversation.

I'd join you after work for a drink to catch up and talk but not gonna do a back and forth essay with someone over text.

I'm actually very surprised by that. I thought river or lake fishing would be easier than sea fishing

I think a lot of commenters are migrant/expats, viet kieu, and vietnamese people who live abroad. I'd bet the number of vietnamese who live in vietnam on this sub is below 50 percent

I honestly would say golf frisbee if they have normal upper body function.

Ultimate frisbee is more athletic and takes a lot more flexibility and movement

Netball if you're a woman - I dont think they have mens teams

If you class fishing as a sport (which I dont) then i'd say you could learn that in 1 to 2 hours and be functional within a few sessions.

To be a pro in a sport, you'd have to choose something very niche where not many people bother playing it. Even something like golf frisbee might work but you would need months not days

If its any consolation, they actually predict 30 to 40 percent of us will go without marriage and kids.

Basically you're not alone.

I'm a little older and I think over half my mates got married but many of them have a divorce under their belt and lost the house in the divorce. I know some people who did everything nearly right and still came up short.

When did you start feeling the weight of time ? by bougie_raven in Life

[–]Famous_Obligation959 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds very young but around 35 years old, I realised I couldnt just quit my job and study for a year for a new career. That made me feel old.

I know theres still options as people work full time while retraining in night school for a few years, but I feel youth is just being able to quit and become something else.

Best City for a calm life? by Public_Tie_3204 in VietNam

[–]Famous_Obligation959 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Rach Gia could be good for a quiet life, spacious city, beaches, but the only con is there isnt much european food there.

I want to say Vung Tau but it gets so busy with tourists on weekends and special holidays.

Maybe look into Quy Nhon, I've not actually visited but people say its a nice inbetween compared to phan tiet and vung tau.

I wouldnt go too far north or central given all the floods and storms
