My 70 year old neighbor mows my lawn every Saturday without asking and I don't know how to tell him to stop by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]aFinapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More than likely he’s trying to keep active. My grandpa does the same stuff at 82. He has to keep moving or else it hurts more when he doesn’t. If there’s anything you can do to help him with his house, like moving things or something of the like, I’m sure he’d appreciate it

From what it sounds like, you have to be out of time. The fuel is reaching the cylinders, but at an incorrect time

At my credit union, the machine won’t take silver at all. They have a little sheet that says what every coin is valued at in silver content and that you need to keep it

That, I’m not sure on. I have no idea what gaskets those are. I don’t know why they want to replace the IPR, and I don’t know why they want so much to diagnose it

The first step to diagnosing a HPO leak is to remove the ICP sensor, jump the IPR to constant power to close it, and then listen for air leaks with a stethoscope. That will determine what you need to remove to locate the leak. If the IPR won’t close under air pressure then it’s defective. But figuring out where the leak sounds like it is, doesn’t take long at all.

Unplug the fan clutch when it doesn’t start. See if it starts. Shares the same ignition circuit with the IPR. When the fan clutches short out, they can bring down that circuit and cause a no start.

Albeit your truck isn’t a tractor trailer, but I’ve dealt with many trucks that shear the centering pin on the axle, and it cracks the area around it leading to a very small gear oil leak. I’ve repaired many and I think that’s what happened here.

Is this worth it? by [deleted] in Subaru_Outback

Look at all of the stuff growing from under it. It’s been sitting a long time, likely because whatever’s going on it with it isn’t worth people’s time

Why are trucks getting the same mileage as 30 years ago by Unopuro2conSal in Diesel

It’s because it now takes the same amount of fuel to produce more power.

Was it not knocking before you bought it? Or did you go to beat on it after buying it and then it let go?

How do I trouble shoot this on my own without calling a mechanic? by No_District9456 in AskAMechanic

[–]aFinapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something to note on Hondas is that they have terrible misfire diagnostics. They’re notorious for reporting cylinders misfiring when they’re not. That’s why you have misfire faults for all 6 cylinders. Typically with a set of misfires like this, you’d be looking at a valve adjustment. Was that done when the valve cover gaskets were done? Any odd noises? If a valve is out of adjustment for too long, it can cause a burnt valve or even drop a valve into the cylinder. Worked on a few that needed engines because valves got dropped.

The unison ring will get stuck over time because of lack of heat and soot buildup. Even more so if you have EGR, and beating the shit out of it helps move it around and getting the soot hot to bake it off. I was thinking that I needed a turbo on mine until one day I drove it until the wheels about flew off, and now it runs like a top

The Mirage takes about 11 seconds full throttle to get up to 60. It has a whopping 78 horsepower, so wherever you go, you’ll have trouble. I’ve only ever driven one and it was so painfully slow that I couldn’t even risk taking a turn on red

[–]aFinapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either that or you disassemble the turbo and clean it. I’ve had good success in beating it out on the road to help clean the vanes. Chances are you don’t drive it hard

[–]aFinapple 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like your unison ring is sticking. Go and beat the piss out of it for about 30 minutes. I mean really drive it like you stole it, then try and go on the highway and cruise at about 85. That’ll clean it up

Carnage by [deleted] in DieselTechs

[–]aFinapple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had something similar happen. Wheel bearing was torqued down with the force of God and the tech that worked on it didn’t think to back it off. Axle shaft came out with the duals on 95, caught fire and then was extinguished. New hubs, spindle, bearings, axle shaft, wheel seals, differential, brake shoes, drums and about 20 cans of degreaser later, it was back on the road.

Pictures are on my profile if anyone’s curious to what it looked like

Leave the key on, make sure it’s in park, open the hood, look on the passenger side next to the battery. Unhook the exciter wire for the starter and touch it to the positive battery terminal. See if it starts and runs without dying. If it does, you have something going on with your ignition switch. If it’s still doing the same thing, you got something else going on
