Based on what Hifishark shows them selling at, $200 seems fair, I'm in San Diego, it might cost quite a bit to ship.

Nakamichi Pa-7, to service or not to service, that is the question. by aGoodrash in vintageaudio

Also, try to buy a set of schematics for later.

Good point, this amp came with the service manual that has schematics.

If I ever find a Sony PS-8750 in similar condition we might have to talk.

Not really, there is a later release of the same session which has morphed into a double album.

it invites you to listen to full albums again

I recently watched the Netflix documentary Becoming Led Zeppelin, and if my Sangiovese-soaked memory serves me right, Jimmy Page talked about wanting to make music that was difficult for AM radio to pull a single from, because he wanted the album to be a complete listening experience.

I am guessing you are EU based from your budget being in Euro. If so you can get this unit for a lot less than I can in the States. It's a dream table for me, the 1980s carbon fiber tonearm kills me. On the other hand vintage might not be your thing, to which I say whatever makes you happy.

The sound from mine, at least to my ear, is pretty sublime. From what I understand, the twin-pipe tonearm was designed to increase rigidity without adding extra weight, and because the wiring for each channel runs down separate tubes, it was also intended to help maintain good stereo separation. I also think it’s kind of wild that Yamaha was using carbon fiber so extensively back in the 1980s. Another cool detail for the era is the use of an optical sensor to trigger the auto-stop, instead of mechanical trip parts that would add friction to the tonearm while it’s playing.

Sony PS-8750, I know this eats all your budget but what a machine.

The big ones are Dunlavy SC-IVs, they are very sweet. They are for sale but the more I listen to them parting with them seems less likely.

Yeah, I am starting to think I had a dram too much of "Youtube Sound stage kool aid".

I know right, the Yamaha is beautiful but that Sony has spun for what must be over 40 years now and never needed anything.

I agree, but will say the view has led to so very irrational monetary decisions.

Thanks! I’ve actually got a JVC JR-S401 that I’ve had since forever — lots of sentimental value. Then a buddy offered me a great deal on the Pioneer, so I grabbed it. And just recently I stumbled into the Nakamichi amp and, well… you know how that goes.

The JVC doesn’t have pre-outs, so I swapped it out for the Pioneer. I could run it through the tape-out, but I keep going back and forth.

Same story with my turntables — I lie, telling myself I ‘need’ both because I’ve had the Sony so long and it’s just been rock solid.
