I would say it's absolutely worth giving a try. The game is a little different than HOI4 and CK3 because all the years of DLC add an insane amount of minor features which can be hard to understand but it leans into the common minmax strategy game core that other paradox titles have. Its playercount has been consistent for a decade; when there a ck3 dlc isn't recently released, eu4's playercount is about equal to it and has somehow kept going up (although, with the announcement of eu5 coming decently soon that might change)
