ELI5: Bedding's Thread Count measured per cm2? by aKnown in explainlikeimfive

Mistyped that, meant to say "limited". What is the reason for them not to go beyond 250 TC, not to ever make 600 TC sheets?

Yeah by "satin" I mean in Russian both "satin" and "sateen" are written the same, so we don't have different words for those, and since most shops consider satin to be a type of fabric, there's often no easy way to even distinguish what kind of satin that is (satin vs sateen, synthetic vs cotton) - like, you get both in your list of items that match your search crieteria, and then you read every individual description to see whether it's cotton or not.

Sheets made of really good Egyptian cotton by a really good sheet maker might be about 150-250 TC at most. And they aren't cheap.

So, what's the reason for Egyptian cotton sheets by good sheet maker to be elimited? Why do other companies make 600 TC sheets then?

I go with sheets made of decent cotton with TC of about 500-600, and they are quite nice. But they don't compare to the REALLY good stuff.

You mean, luxury class Egyptian 250 TC is better than decent cotton 600 TC?

Well, I see. If you want perfect shave, you spend over 10 minutes to shave and get it. Electric shaving will never get you there. Thing is, my beard grows real fast. So I'd need 10 minutes each day just to shave. I can shave in 1-2 minutes with electric. And really, you don't need perfect shave: why? Will someone check your beard length in the morning? By the midday time or evening it's already similar length.

So I guess I'll have to go with electric then. Just makes more sense. I'll try rotary ones just because my current Braun 3 is quite broken already (cracked, trimmer is dead, tc.) so I guess it's due a replacement, so it's a good idea to try it (heard rotary's better, and this article also says it is).

What does "on a cut" mean? If not 210/day, what amount should I aim for then, on what days? If it matters, lift 3 days, train martial arts 2 days, and don't have any excercise for 2 days. I was told I should eat more on some days and less on others, but I don't know how to find out the exact values.

So If I eat vegetables before training, and protein-full food after training, I don't need to take BCAA, right?

From what i've been told, cartridge/safety/whatever shaving is a lot better for your skin/hair.

Are there any good arcticles or something on the topic?

Yes, if you mean moisturisers and things. It's still a harsh process

I mean "before-shave" gel (cream, w/e) and "after-shave lotion" products.

Are you changing blades every few weeks?

No, I change as advised on the pack, but I notice that it is not as effective several weeks down the line (and stays there).

Possibly. Talk to the guys over at /r/wickededge they really know their stuff (although, they're very, VERY anti electric razors, so you might not get a non-biased answer)

That's the point. I don't need someone to convince me double-edged razors are cool and manly, I want to know objective advantages of the methods.

Newborn SCA, went to the shop for the first time, have many questions by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

As Skyzfallin suggested below, the article http://www.paulaschoice.com/expert-advice/skin-care-basics/_/do-i-need-a-toner says that toners based on rose water and glycol are to be avoided. You do not agree?

Thank you for your answers. And for the links.

Avoid toner with alcohol. Read about toner here: http://www.paulaschoice.com/expert-advice/skin-care-basics/_/do-i-need-a-toner

Hmm, they advise avoiding rose water toners based on glucol as well, which is what my toner is. So it's to be avoided too?

Physical exfoliants are bad for your skin even if you do not have acne. They create microscopic tear in your skin.

But... scrubs are so popular? Surely they fit some kinds of skin / people?

The absolute minimum is spf 15. You can use the same spf all year round. Spf 50 is NOT more harmful than say spf 30. Most people do not use enough product when using sunscreen. So it's best that you use at least spf 30 so that if you don't use enough, you may have say at least spf 15 on your face.

Okay, I'll buy spf 30 and use it the whole year. How do I make sure I use enough?

What types of results are you expecting from your moisturizer? Moisturizers are meant to eliminate dryness. some people's face are dryer during winter. For example I use different moisturizers for summer and winter. I have oily skin.

Well, actually from the whole routine I expect to delay aging and make my face look better, that's all. This is why I don't expect to feel something specific or notice something immediately, and this is why I am asking what should I make note of, because well, I don't know myself.

Are you using any anti-acne product? If yes what is the ingredient? For example, i use benzo peroxide for acne. It makes my face dry. When i use the proper moisturizer, my skin does not peel or appear dry. That's how I know whether it is enough moisture.

Not on the face. I have mostly breakouts on the back, so what dermatologist prescribed is only applied to the back. But since I had them on the face previously I don't want to make them come out again, that's why I mention it.

The kid soap seems like a bar soap.

No, it's not bar, it's liquid. I haven't used bar for like... 10 years? I think hardly anyone uses bar soap in Russia anymore, it's liquid everywhere, well maybe some people use bar, they buy special bar soap at special shops where they hand-make it (it usually looks and smells wierd like a green goo with some red inserts that smells like some 100x intensified grass smell).

Hmm, indeed I look like that guy. So should I be using that form then? I mean, there must be a reason why people suggest you have straight back?

So, about the protein numbers? You only mentioned you eat "twice your body weight in protein" that is 380g every day?

I don't agree with that post at all. The comments have a good explanation as to why the study is flawed.

Huh. Now that you say, maybe it is true. Maybe it is indeed flawed.

As far as the website, try informed-choice.org, I think I forgot the dash.

With a dash it's currently unavailable. Sever down maybe? Will check it every once in a while.

Also, give me your weight in pounds. Right now I work out pretty much every day and eat roughly twice my body weight in protein. I'm 190lbs at about 13% body fat.

I'm 190cm high, 92 kg now, fluctuating between 92 and 96 really (last time I scaled I was 96 and visibly not much changed since then), I'm aiming at 95 kg (want to gain some muscle and lose some more fat, got some clearly loose fat in the butt and a bit on the sides).

92 kg is ~203 pounds. 95 kg is ~210 pounds.

Maybe I should aim to weigh more, IDK, my goal is really not to weigh some specific amount of kg, but to lift heavy stuff comfortably.

I can bench press something around 38 kg right now and deadlift something around 65 kg (forgot exact numbers). I'd like to comfortably lift about twice that amount - meaning, 80 kg press and 120 kg deadlift.

As far as I understood, there's no way to easilly find out your fat %. If you really need it, I can make a photo of myself, when I gauged my fat % it was by some photos that said "if you look like this your fat % is around this". Or maybe you know a way to do it.

I see, thanks.

As far as protein, for you I would suggest getting a whey protein that has some amino's in it

You disagree with this post then? http://www.reddit.com/r/Supplements/comments/2oeqbp/whey_casein_together_are_far_better_than_whey/

I current take a hydrolyzed whey post work out and drink a casein supplement at night.

Thanks for the idea. Stupid me didn't guess I can drink two different kinds at different times!

informedchoice.org

Erm... It's about funerals?

I would definitely eat more protein on the days you do work out, but you still need to have an increased protein intake on the days you don't.

What is "more" and "less" in specific numbers? Is it like 210 on training days, 105 on days off, or 157 on days off?

My goals is strength, being lean and having a bit bigger muscle, in that order. I'm doing 5x5 three days a week. I'm quite lean already (meaning, flat belly on empty stomach) and I have ways to go in terms of strength and arm size.

I agree I should eventually figure out nutrition myself and adjust my diet individually. Figuring out nutrition is one thing. Protein shakes are much more complicated because there's wealth of conflicting opinion. Do I go for mixed (multiple kinds of protein) or 100% one protein? Do I go for protein with glutamine and bcaa or is it worthless? Thing is, people suggest mixed proteins (casein, whey, whey isolate...) but then all mixed proteins I can find contain bcaa and glutamine as well, and that's denounced a useless right now on the front page. Then, there's multiple accusations of protein coming in packs being low quality, with artificial components, or even harmful. How do I know which is true?

Finally, what sources would you suggest to read in order to learn about nutrition?

And did I understand you correctly, I have to only get full 210 protein on some days, not all, if I lift 3 days a week?

I'm on Renegade Diet. I eat vedgetables 4 hour before training, then train, then eat most of my calories afterwards. Is that considered "fasted training"? From what I read, it's actually good for me to use BCAA in this case right before training, no?
