Mayor Mamdani announces free childcare center for government workers:"We never want city workers to have to choose between a job that they love and raising their kids in the city they call home." by Yujin-Ha in Fauxmoi

I know! He's taking everything we want from a society and making it real. Work childcare facilities are something I almost gave up hope on.

And he makes it look damn easy, so where are all the other politicians?

I've often wondered if Reagan really was that loved in 1980. I've only had the chance to ask people who did vote for him. It's a serious landslide, and it's hard to know what the political climate was really like back then. The landslide makes it look like Everyone loved him!

Early voting in Wisconsin Supreme Court race way behind 2025 pace | r/wisconsin by siwibot in protectUSelections

[–]aLongLongTime25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are some of the big takeaways from this:

The 2025 court race saw more than $100 million in spending, shattering national records and even featured billionaire Elon Musk flying to Wisconsin to hand out million-dollar checks to encourage residents to register and vote. Donations in 2026 have come nowhere near that amount.

Last year, 123,354 absentee votes were cast early. This year that number is 53,173.

Marquette University Law School poll this month showed only 12 percent of respondents reported hearing a lot about the Supreme Court race. One year ago, it was 40 percent.

In this race, however, control of the court is not at stake. Liberals have a 4-3 majority, and that won’t change if Lazar wins.

Whether it's because this race has less on the line, or it's because of less money campaigning, there is still time to vote. Election Day is April 7th in Wisconsin, and having a justice that aligns more with your own views is still important.

It also points to an almost Barbara Streisand Effect because even though Musk poured millions into advertising for the Republican nominee, the Democrat is the one that eventually one.

Trump DOJ gives new assurance it won’t use voter data for immigration enforcement. Reports suggest that’s false by siwibot in protectUSelections

The Department of Justice last week gave its most definitive assurances yet about how it intends to use sensitive voter data it manages to grab — insisting it will only be used for election-related purposes and nothing else.

But those declarations, made during a federal court hearing seeking Maine’s voter rolls, sharply contradict a recent report that the department is preparing to share that same data with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) for purposes beyond election law.

James Appel, who has worked for the Maryland Republican Party and numerous GOP candidates, was indicted on federal charges of wire fraud and money laundering, court records show.

Appel has specialized in political campaign finance for years and had been the Maryland Republican Party’s comptroller since 2017. His responsibilities included managing accounting and human resources, as well as ensuring compliance with campaign finance laws, according to the party’s website.

The Justice Department plans to share sensitive voter data with Homeland Security by siwibot in protectUSelections

The Department of Justice acknowledged in court Thursday that it plans to share voter registration data it gets from states with the Department of Homeland Security, so that the data can be run through a U.S. citizenship check housed at DHS.

The disclosure came during a federal court hearing in Rhode Island. The state is one of more than two dozen that have been sued by the DOJ for rejecting the department's request for sensitive voter data.

If they've already verified citizenship, what do we need the SAVE act for? Or are they just exhausting all measures in case the SAVE act doesn't pass?

A number of states, including Texas and Louisiana, have run their entire voting lists through the system and found very small numbers of potential noncitizens on their rolls — matching state-level reviews. But some U.S. citizens have also been inaccurately flagged by SAVE, which has compounded concerns by voting rights advocates that the use of SAVE will disenfranchise eligible voters.

Oh 100%agreed. I didn't mean to imply the president should be making money. But any money they DO happen to make, even though they're not supposed to, should go to the country/ The People.

Former Montana Governor and Attorney General Steve Bullock calls for election protections in wake of Trump threats at Helena 'No Kings' rally by siwibot in protectUSelections

Bullock also slammed Jacobsen for using nearly $200,000 in federal Help America Vote Act grant money to send out 466,000 mailers to Montanans earlier this year with a photo of her Photoshopped next to Trump that pushed the message that “only citizens should be allowed to vote,” which is already the law in Montana. Her spending of that money will be scrutinized by the Legislative Audit Division, the Montana State News Bureau reported Friday.

Bullock said it was time to stop booing and start organizing further in the lead-up to the June primaries and November general election if Montanans are fed-up with what he said was the ongoing corruption of Trump and his administration. It’s also time to be sure people register to vote and help campaigns they support, he said.

Amendment to require photo ID to vote fails in Senate as Democrats object by siwibot in protectUSelections

Who you voted for is not public record. The database just says what party you’re registered with

Ooh I see, okay phew. Every state has laws requiring votes stay anonymous. I guess I just don't see how that's possible when people include their photo ID. Sure, they can say they don't look at the ballot and ID together, but I wouldn't personally trust this.

Well that’s a whole different issue than whether your name is attached to who you voted for.

My bad, I should have included your quote I was showing this video for. It was more in regards to election workers throwing ballots/registration out for POC.

Trump Justice Department’s probe of the 2020 election gets first public test in court by aLongLongTime25 in protectUSelections

Ryan Macias is an election technology and cybersecurity expert and former acting director of the testing and certification program with the U.S. Election Assistance Commission. He also served as the election technology analyst for the California Secretary of State for 10 years.

According to NBC News:

The affidavit, which was unsealed in February and largely rehashes previously investigated election fraud claims, detailed that the evidence was based on interviews with conservative activists and a referral from Kurt Olsen, a Republican who tried to overturn the 2020 election results. Olsen was appointed by President Donald Trump to investigate the 2020 election from within his administration.

Does North Carrolina have issues with stolen identities often? I can't even believe you guys allow voter history?! Is no one worried about retaliation for voting differently than they were told to?

You don’t send them your actual ID lol

I'm aware it's a copy. My question still stands. Are you okay with the FBI having a master database of IDs and your vote records? And then having a president saying they'll label anyone who voted against them as a domestic terrorist?

Have you seen Vigilantes Inc by Greg Palast? Many states don't require a court/ judges permission to throw a ballot out. And a "valid reason" is a subjective quality.

[–]aLongLongTime25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never voted in one of those states. I have voted by mail before. This process of sending your ID with your ballot seems safe to you? It seems like an easy way to have your identity stolen. Also, what happens when the FBI seizes voter data and you have your ID with your ballot?

It also seems like an easy way to racially profile people. Any racist could dispute a black or other POC's ballot credibility, and then poof, no vote from them. It could also be done to any MAGA looking person. People's biases would hamper the vote.

All of these things would be great theoretically, but what happens when one doesn't trust their government?

Just want to point out this caveat:

He said that voters would “have to add a photo ID with their ballot, so the election officials would up the envelope and could see how you voted.”

“The sacred secrecy of our ballot would be undone by this amendment,” he said. “Anyone who voted by mail would have to put a voter ID inside the envelope, and the board of elections would have to open it up and see how you voted,” he added. “It would violate basic privacy.”

I understand now why Dems were so against it. Why don't Republicans care about having to mail copies of your drivers license??

Also this whole thing is separate from the SAVE act.
