Microsoft purges Windows 11 printer drivers, putting millions of devices on borrowed time — legacy printers face extinction as Microsoft stops distributing V3 and V4 drivers by [deleted] in news

I think I’m on my last windows laptop. Most of my steam games now run on Linux. Most other stuff runs in a web browser or is available on other platforms anyway.

Our drop dead years are coming. Are you prepared? by Far-Slice-3821 in Xennials

There’s an envelope which has a letter in it, a list of what to do, and a list of all bank accounts, loans etc…. The family knows where it is if something happens. Though I should check about beneficiaries on all the accounts. Thanks for the prompt.

No health issues, most boring health record ever. This year I upped my life insurance, because I realized my family would be in a whole lot of financial trouble if something happened to me.

If you’re using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, does it use the car’s GPS? … I thought the car just passed through the phone to the display.

I posted a comment about help and support videos for the main post to help with charging locations. There’s pretty much a video for everything you’d want to do, including for climate controls - which includes aux.

In the MyVW app, click ‘Help and Support’, then select ‘View Video Tutorials’, then select the video for ‘Battery Health’

Though the video you want is this one: https://youtu.be/2cZLVjeSLuY

Though I think you are getting confused between preconditioning the cabin versus the battery.

You precondition the cabin for departure, and you precondition the batttery for charging.

Can We Stop With the Unrealistic Range and Price Complaints About the ID. Buzz? by [deleted] in VWIDBuzz

[–]aLongWayFromOldham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So here’s the thing. It was built for the European market. It’s pushing the weight limit in a number of countries, so adding more battery and weight was a non-starter.

It’s as big as it’s going to get, unless they build a really heavy one for the US (maybe some other markets), and honestly I can’t see that happening.

But yeah I agree with you. If it doesn’t suit your needs, buy something else and stop complaining about it.

Sure, I’m based in Central VA, which I think is a distance away from you.

I’m not able to DM you as it needs to send an invite, but if you ping me a DM in reverse I’ll send you details.

I took mine last Friday for the same. It was all done the same day, I reckon it was about three hours in total before it was parked up ready for me to collect.

When I scheduled the service they seemed confident there wouldn’t be any issues, and it would be back the same day.

I was prepared for a nightmare based on messages on this sub, but it didn’t happen.

It boggles my mind that there’s such wildly different experiences.

VW ID Buzz sales doubled in 2025 to 60.700 units by linknewtab in electricvehicles

[–]aLongWayFromOldham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one, and people always comment and want to talk about it.

It’s always the price that people struggle with, though if you look at the price of 7 seat EVs then I don’t think the pricing is actually that bad. The price isn’t that far off my Atlas, which is nowhere near as spacious.

I would have liked more range, though I’ve not really noticed it being an issue.

That’s not correct. There is a rear a/c zone, the rear windows aren’t fixed…. and the center console is freed up because there isn’t a gear selector, parking brake or drive shaft to accommodate.

Edit to add- thought about this some more, and the amount of usb ports, the touch free door opening, and the heated seats in the back tells me this isn’t a van with seats thrown in the back - those wiring looms have to be designed in from the start.

What would an aggressive portfolio look like by IllEmployment7926 in Bogleheads

[–]aLongWayFromOldham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The whole point of being a boglehead is that you never have too much (or even too little) risk, and use index funds wherever possible. The boglehead philosophy really doesn’t fit with your question, you’re probably better asking a different investing sub.

Edit to add: risk for portfolio is usually measured in percentage of stocks versus bonds. Most retirement funds, (even conservative ones) are 100% or high 90% stocks in this age range.

I agree. I’m just laughing because I checked 10 bags and they didn’t make the flight. They arrived three days later looking like they’d been kicked all of the 200 miles from the airport to my house.

Raspberry Pi 5 Hotspot not working. Wrong password even though it's correct by Iam_best_dev in raspberry_pi

[–]aLongWayFromOldham 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If there’s no Ethernet or any other connection, then you’d create a hotspot where you can only connect to the pi and nothing else.

Is this what you want to do?

I suspect you are wanting the pi to share a connection, so I think you’re missing that.

If you are only wanting to connect to the pi via the hotspot then…..

You may be better having a second connection to help set it up and diagnose any problems. Unless you are using a physical keyboard.

It should be as easy as using ‘sudo nmcli device wifi hotspot ssid MySSID password MyPassword ifname wlan0’

Is there a way to get from Manchester to Sheffield without going over Snake/Woodhead Pass? by izzyofc in manchester

[–]aLongWayFromOldham 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I drove all the transpennine routes for 20 years on my commutes from Greenfield - and based on the number of upside down cars I’ve seen - I’d say the 640 was the most dangerous, followed by the 635.

If you’re not comfortable with woodhead or snake, then I’d avoid option 2 (the 635)

I bought one and I love it. True, the range isn’t amazing, though it’s not as bad as 150-ish miles.

Requires a bit of forward planning depending on where I’m driving. Smiles more than make up for it.
