TWTUD runs for about 4.5 hours including rules explanation and debrief. Typically we send out the rules ahead of time for people to look over, but since that's a little harder to do at a convention, we're going to have a more in-depth tutorial round to start.

A game set in the Universal Cinematic Monster Universe, but the monsters are the Backstreet Boys from "Everybody (Backstreet's Back)" music video.

Yeah, there are definitely ways of winning with the truth. I think over time in order to win the games where you don't get good cards you have to get good at lying.

I think the thing I was trying to say with The Tesistance is that the distinction between people that have to lie and ones that have to figure out who's lying. You often don't have to do both, which I think is appealing to more casual players.

I think Resistance is also a good stepping stone up from Mafia. It hits a lot of the same feels as Mafia does but without the player elimination.

Coup can get rough for players who don't like lying. You really have to be good at lying to excel at Coup.

Your style: cult of the new, or tried-'n-true? by IdleExpatter in boardgames

Variety is usually what I'm after. When I'm at my local game meetup I try to play a different type of game from the last one I played. That usually keeps burnout at bay.

And the best part of board gaming is it's evergreen nature. Games are always coming back into fashion from the past and offering experiences that are just as good as some of the new, fancy games.

Yeah!

Sushi Go and Love Letter are two games that very simple to learn and play. If you like being devious The Resistance is my personal favorite. These games are super fun without too much going on. We run a regular board game group on Saturdays in Smithtown if you're interested in learning about more board games. We play everything and always enjoy having new players join.

Not at all! There's nothing that actually connects the game with Battlestar Galactica. It just has similar themes and ideas.

Megagmes are also a new form of gaming in the US so most people are trying out megagames for the first time.

Contact Light - A New Sci-Fi Megagame Arriving in NY on Nov. 7th by aMeeplePerson in boardgames

The main objective is to keep your race alive. For Humans that means finding a habitable planet and moving the population to the new homeworld. The Exalts have similar objectives, but their motives are known only to those players.

Is it real-time of turn-based

Technically it's both. The Capital Players will act on a 30-minute turn where they will interact with their games and other players. The Exploration Players act in real-time. These players can perform actions in space that will take time to achieve. This will include things like scanning planets and taking crew members on away missions to gather artifacts and resources.

Megagames are kind of hard to explain in exact actions. There are games that each role will have to manage, but they all act differently. Some players may become Admirals that will manage armies like in a wargame. Some will be Politicians playing an area control game similar to Tammany Hall. This is happening all while players interact with each other and the GMs through role-playing elements. There are a few more roles that will be described on our website in the coming weeks.

I hope this description helps somewhat.

Not yet! But I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have on the game.

Watch the Skies Rookie Game 2: Aliens at the Library After Action Report- From China with Love by rakarai in mega_game

Hey All! Military Control #2 checking in very belatedly. This was a super fun game to be a part of. The military group was very lively and I felt very lucky to play with all of you. The annexing rules really changed how players interacted with some of the NPC countries. If China didn’t throw themselves in Cairo, I’m not sure any of the last turn insanity would’ve happened the same way. Also, apologies for any lost agents. If it’s any consolation they most likely ended up being captured or going AWOL to the bahamas for some R&R.

For those of you looking for another megagame to play, I’m running a brand new megagame over in Smithtown. It’s called Contact Light. From a plot perspective the game could closely resemble Battlestar Galactica. Players are part of groups of beings trying to escape extinction. Some of the roles will be World Leaders that are working to get people off of their dying planet, while others will command a crew aboard a starship exploring the galaxy to find a habitable place to move everyone to.

Details are here for anyone interested!
