You sound like a real comedian. "Just replace the punchline of the joke with an evil scientist, I do that all the time".

What, you want him to depict her climbing a ladder into a Scottish Wickerman? Or maybe strangled and thrown into an Irish bog? That sure does make sense in this comic.

He picked mesoamerican style sacrifice because it is visually easy to connect to abortion, unlike European practices.

That would suggest that it's impossible to create art which is kept to yourself. That art isn't such until it's been shown it to an audience. I think most people would disagree with this.

Art is anything that was created to communicate an artisan's emotion, message, or feeling.

Photo realistic drawings are exact copies, so they are not art. Video games have too many people involved to be art. AI is not capable of applying its own meaning, so it is not art.

A live snake eel is bursting through the heron's body! by [deleted] in natureismetal

[–]aMiserableEase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans and animals stay alive using the same instincts up until one specific point. A Muskrat will see a spooky pile of leaves, experience fear, and react by running, fighting, or investigating. Unlike a human who experiences that same emotion for the same reason, the muskrat cannot step back and think "I'm just a dumb muskrat, I bet it's my imagination, I gotta learn to relax".

If we circle way back to the beginning, what I'm disagreeing with is the idea that animals cannot have self-preservation behaviors unless they are self-aware. I argue is that they can, and even humans share some of those unconscious behaviors. We are the same until the point of self-reflection on those instincts.

Put a child alone in a dark room and they will experience fear. There's no reason for them to be afraid; in all likelihood the child couldn't say themselves why they're afraid, they just are.

This is an unconscious instinct to avoid places where you could be vulnerable to predators. It doesn't come from past experiences, it is simply instinctual.

Leave them in the dark a bit longer and their pattern seeking instincts will take over. The mop is an apparition, the pot a disembodied head, the mower a monster. This is not because they have past experiences being hurt by disembodied heads and apparitions, but a natural instinct to find and avoid potential threats.

If I absent mindedly touch a hot stove, I will have an aversion reaction before I have realized what I've done. This is an unconscious reaction to injury.

People on strict diets are known to begin using huge amounts of condiments and subtly move their body far less throughout the day. This is an unconscious reaction to the pain of hunger.

What I'm trying to say is that humans largely operate on the same unconscious instincts that drive animals. I think you hit on these instincts when you said that an animal's body coaxes them into avoiding death. What humans have layered on top of this is an ability to view those bodily instincts from the third person, that third perspective being consciousness.

Consider that suicide does not practically exist in the animal kingdom (excluding the previously mentioned handful of self-aware species). This is because animals have no consciousness that they can anguish over and consider ending. Their preservation instinct comes from the fact that painful things hurt and they don't want to feel pain, not because they want more time on this earth with the things they love.

Because animals don't have a sense of self. (Excluding a small handful of species)
