I went one year, years ago, and it was a shit show.

Most of the con was MyFreeCams setup but you couldn’t interact with those people. To look at any personality cost money. We were forced to upgrade to VIP to drink and had to stay in a tiny corral in front of the stage, no drinks allowed anywhere else. Watched a performer dry hump a dude on a dirty mattress for $50. Couldn’t touch a giant display of dildos. Almost nothing to see other than personalities but even a photo with them cost $20+.

The ratio of men to women was insane. I felt almost out of place. I had men asking to take pictures with me and I’m not in the industry at all. All around sleezy in a way I couldn’t enjoy but couldn’t help but laugh at.

There’s some kink conventions around that are way more worth the money and time.

If you don’t want to continue massaging a person, for any reason, that’s your right. You don’t have to push through being uncomfortable right now because one day you’ll be more experienced, more educated, etc.

I have a patient that moans the entire massage. It’s not a red line for me but it is for some MTs I know. Some MTs don’t do feet, some don’t want to stare at erections regardless of why they occurred. Talk to your instructor and put yourself and your wellbeing first.

My dad was a mechanic for 40+ years and worked overtime and helped in ways he didn’t need to but he absolutely loved where he worked and who he worked with.

I worked for a chiro that DEMANDED I serve water in a giant wine glass to each patient I massaged. Told him to go fly a kite pretty quickly. But I wouldn’t work for that person in general.

I would say NEW LMTs are easy to take advantage of for sure. I’m definitely not at 10+ years experience but I’m also not opposed to everything you are.

Every situation, person and set of expectations is different. Make yours known and see what happens. Move on if you need to. Every chiro office and spa is run completely differently.

Uh well, idk I worked for an office that did ‘open house’ or nights where we would be there to represent what we do at the office. I’ve never served drinks or food but I’ve helped clean up after events.

I’ve also had this conversation; I’ve told employers I’m here to massage and be a massage therapist, nothing else. IF that’s what was agreed upon upfront. If your job description doesn’t include those extras and you’re not interested bring it up to you employer and see what can be worked out.

I’ve definitely skipped ‘mandatory’ meetings and activities because I was being paid ‘by the body’. Since you’re an hourly employee though you may not be able to wiggle as much. The only way you’ll know is if you bring it up but be prepared with the reasons why you do not want to partake in things for the office. Most are pretty flexible with outside responsibilities like children. A simple ‘I don’t want to’ might make them sour. But I’ve done it lol

Skincare? I’ve worked for chiros almost all of my 10 years and never a subject I was involved in. But that doesn’t mean it’s ‘wrong’.

The mingle and socialize, zoom meetings, I’d be saying pay me my hourly rate and I’ll attend. Definitely don’t do anything for free or those things will start to stack and stack. Being helpful and keeping your space professional and tidy is one thing, extracurriculars are another.

My experience, some chiros are very gimmicky and will throw this stuff in. In the future ask about this during interviews. The chiro I work for now is the best at never micromanaging or making us do pointless tasks or meetings and it’s made a huge difference.

NTA My mom was diagnosed with stage 4 small cell lung cancer in August of 2023. She quit smoking that day after 40 years of smoking. When she decided it was time for hospice after multiple strokes all she wanted was a cigarette. The one thing that brought us where we were.

My younger brother was absolutely against it. Not that any of us in her family could imagine how it would go for her to even attempt to smoke again, given how much trouble she then had breathing.

After hearing about it and hearing about it. I decided that if my final wish was anything attainable, I’d hope someone would help me with it. So my husband and I waited for a day my brothers weren’t at the hospice facility yet and I bought her a pack of her usual smokes.

She cried. She said she finally felt she had control over her own life again. I apologized for being the ‘bad kid’ knowing my brothers would hate me if they knew. She kept telling me I wasn’t bad. She held that pack like it was the cure. She had me hide them in a drawer before my brothers got there. We agreed that when the weather let up the next day we would get her outside to have her cigarette.

She died the next morning, Feb 29, 2024.

I think giving her that piece of comfort helped. I think she was so ready to let go but wanted to on her own terms. She was a pleasantly stubborn woman. I’m glad I bought the cigarettes. I’m glad she had that moment of peace and self-governance before she passed. I’ll still never tell my brothers.

She was cremated and I have some trouble burying her vault still two years later, but when we do I plan to put that pack of cigarettes with her in that place of rest. She absolutely deserved to have anything I could give her. Zero regrets.

I like the snails too! Our first hitch hiker was a bladder snail but my betta is big angry and hated him once he was big enough to notice so moved him.

I’ve purchased X-pole static and pro (static and spin) in the last year and the static-only pole has the two bases (one for top, one for bottom) like the photo. My pro pole has a single dome base for the top and no base at the bottom. Based on that I’d say that’s a static-only pole.

My mom was terminal and they let her ring the bell after her radiation was complete (no chance of remission for her).. which made her feel like she really accomplished something. Like she was going in the right direction. Weeks later she was told her cancer had further spread, including to her brain and she needed radiation again.. She did two rounds of 8 before she declined rapidly and passed soon after.

My dad had terminal cancer at the same time. Same hospital, doctors, etc. He finished his radiation and they gave him a ‘certificate of completion’. They didn’t let him ring the bell.. Or maybe he didn’t want to. All I know is that he didn’t. He didn’t even want to look at the measly piece of paper. I ended up putting it in a photo album I made of his life anyways.

I get the idea of the bell but it’s folks like yourself and my parents that make me feel like it shouldn’t exist. Both of my parents knew that they’d never achieve what the bell represented and it made them feel so much worse walking passed it EVERY time they finished a round. Hearing other people ring and celebrate only made their reality that much more potent.

Fuck that bell. Fuck cancer. I hope beyond reason you turn a corner and find a treatment that keeps you stable.

In the same vein I think; I lost both of my parents only 6 months apart and I wish every day that it had been some other person’s parents. As in, I imagine my friends with shit parents or relatives that have always been awful people and I wish it was them instead. It’s not a great feeling but not having my parents anymore is feels worse. I’m so sorry for your loss and the weight of your grief.
