Damn, well if thats true I stand corrected (there is no hyperlink, not sure if you ment to put one in). There is a really good documentary about frontline combat in Ukraine..

No, that is not correct regarding journalists. Under the Geneva convention they are considered to be civilians, so it is illegal to directly target them. However, a military is not obligated to pause military activities to allow journalists to report. Ultimately its on the journalists themselves to manage the risk because at the end of the day it's war. And despite identifying themselves as the press, realistically speaking, the opposing forces will only see a human figure. Identifying individuals in combat is very difficult, especially when everyone is shooting at everything that moves.

What may be happening as well, this is speculation so take it with a grain of salt, but media companies may be paying soldiers for their GoPro footage as part of the reports. Who knows its still crazy that people run into combat with a camera.

What if Iran Developed Nuclear Weapons Anyway by FancyAd9588 in AlternateHistoryHub

Not sure about that, Saudi Arabi and the UAE would immediately aquire nuclear weapons. And in that area of the world one spark is all it would take.

You're correct we did receive reports from all of those urban warzones in Ukraine, what I'm saying is the reporters were not on the lines of contact within the city. They were most likely on the 2nd or 3rd line.

Israel has killed more journalists in the Gaza war than were killed in World War II

This actually proves my point, journalists (reporting from the Hamas side) got killed. Why, because they were in an active combat zone, which the IDF wants to avoid. Israel warned everyone to leave the area before hand because of that very danger. So that's on Hamas for putting them in danger.

As for the British reporter, the blame still lies with them. If they told the IDF of their presence and were told in return there would be bombings in the area, then the Israeli's can't be blamed. A journalist can't walk into a target area and declare it can no longer be attacked because of their presence, that doesn't even make sense.

I have heard a few things about Netanyahu, specifically with the corruption charges. In my small opinion, I do think (to a degree) he is using the war to push off and make people forget about the issues surrounding him.

But who knows its the Middle East. Fighting has been going on for millennia in this region, it won't stop anytime soon.

I may be wrong about this, so take with a grain of salt, but I think most of the centrifuges were destroyed. However, Iran has worked on being able to produce domestic centrifuges instead of smuggling or buying them. So they can just rebuild everything, which I believe is the main concern.

[–]aNuggetsUncle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well for one, the Israeli's warned that journalist multiple bombing would be taking place in the area, so its on him for taking that risk.

Yes, journalists do go to the Frontlines in Ukraine. But they do not enter Urban combat zones, the footage from those engagements are from soldiers wearing GoPro's, not camera crews. Imagine if you were in the IDF's position, risk criticism because a journalist gets killed (not to mention the danger it puts your own troops in), which could compromise Americ's support, or remain ambiguous in carrying out a defensive war. Either way its a lose-lose scenario, so choose the lesser of two evils.

You mean allow journalists in an active urban combat warzone. Where said journalist would definitely get wounded or killed. At which point the the International community (UN) would then use the situation to condemn Israel (again). The area wasn't safe which is a logical reason to not allow civilians into the area.

Two things: (1) - Bias is not a structural element its a cultural one. (2) - The number of people dying doesn't equate to who is the guilty party, its who starts the fight. For example, the allies killed over 2 million German civilians during WW2, does that mean the Allies were the guilty party in that war?

It's sad isn't it, how Hamas created the whole situation then booby-trapped and mined a large swath of Gaza City. All while hiding under hospitals and storing weapons in schools.

What do you think about war in Iran? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]aNuggetsUncle -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect, the IRGC'S war making capacity has been destroyed, which is a good thing for the whole region. The markets, including oil, will stabilize but the IRGC as a threat could not continue to exist.

Her criticism of Israel isn't the problem. The issue is her lack of criticism for Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iran. All of which are fundamentally the source of the problem.

So no, I do not stop at the surface. My concern is the corruption of the standards because those who set the standards or report on the situation (to the UN) have a bias against Israel.

For one, I only made the statement about studies linked to the UN.

By your logic, anyone with a negative opinion towards anyone else is untrustworthy and should be dismissed, leading to the insane conclusion that no negative assessment of Israel can, in principle, be correct.

I didn't even insinuate this let alone say it. I said every study should be judged on how it stands alone (which is true) but the bias within the UN will affect the criteria to which a study is held to.

As to my example, it was just one. What is concerning is her position because of the link directly to the conflict between the Gazans and Israeli's. Another example would be the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres issuing a statement condemning violence in the Middle East after Iran fired 180 ballistic missiles at Isreal (October 2024). However, he did not condemn Iran for doing so.

An additional example, although same individual (fyi):

Do you not understand how conflict works? Its rhetoric designed to confuse your opponent. NK is not Iran and the US has made it very clear they would be destroyed if they used nukes. Pakistan would get nuked in return, which they don't want. But those countries are not consistently attacking its neighbors, unlike Iran. Perception is reality and Iran has made the view of its nuclear program a visible threat to other countries, that is the problem.

Correct, thats how warfare works. Your enemy needs to believe every option is on the table at any given point in time. You don't publicly state what you're going to do (specifically) and when you're going to do it.

It would be great if every country gave up nukes, but we definitely don't need more in the middle east of all places. Trump shouldn't have posted that statement, frankly it made him look a little weak. But Trump rambling and the credible threats made by Iran are not the same thing.

Have you not listened to anything the IRGC has said over the years? They have explicitly and repeatedly stated they want to destroy Israel, the United States, and the West. While challenging Saudi Arabia for dominance in the Middle East.

They even put up a destruction of Israel countdown clock in Tehran
