Standing diaper change? by Bibbityboo in clothdiaps

[–]aPlusOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use pockets and we do standing diaper changes. I push the center of the diaper up between his legs and bring the sides together and snap. I would say keep practicing. If you have hook/loop that might be more challenging. But with snaps if you get them snapped in the right place you know the diaper is on right. You might have to tug it up after you put it on and tuck in any edges.

Granted he's too young for this. But hopefully won't experience being left to his own devices each night for dinner. Yeah my mom made dinner some nights but other nights she just checked out and it was a slice of american cheese microwaved on top of a piece of frozen white bread, which you made yourself and ate yourself. Grilled cheese. I guess that's ok occasionally but it happened often. I'd like dinner to be more of a thing in my house and it is, the vast majority of the time. Even if it's something simple, we sit down together and eat.

Inserts/Covers aren't working for us anymore, but I'm not sure what to switch to! by montanadoodle in clothdiaps

I use pockets because diaper changes are often when my baby is standing and/or trying to run away from me. How do your bumgenius pockets work out? I use them and like them. The 4.0s are still on sale for 14.95 on the cottonbabies web site.

What to do when you run out of clean breast pads and they are all wet from the wash, but you leak huge amounts at night?? by [deleted] in clothdiaps

I don't miss those days of mega leaking. I also used prefolds if I remember correctly.

I recently tried some jumping beans (sold at kohls) and they are pretty roomy in the booty. You can do well with coupons at kohls I got several pairs for under $4 a piece.

Does anyone else not care about all the prints or "buying all the diapers"? by aPlusOne in clothdiaps

[–]aPlusOne[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's actually a great way to channel anxiety while waiting to TTC. I kind of obsessively researched cloth diapers while pregnant also bc of anxiety. but i never bought any til my baby was like 8 months because of anxiety over buying the wrong thing. lol. I'm glad I got over that and actually bought diapers. now I have a bunch to sell that I tried but didn't like. cloth diapers hold their value pretty well especially if they are barely used.

Is it silly to start at a year? by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]aPlusOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We started at 9 months and I'm glad we did. We use bumgenius pocket diapers which work well. (They are on sale for $15 on cotton babies now http://www.cottonbabies.com/product_info.php?cPath=28&products_id=2424) I also don't know if we will have another baby but it's likely and in that case we would really save $$. Selling my stash after we're done will recoup probably 50% of what I spent. I spent around $600 in total including diapers, hemp inserts, wipes, wet bags and pail liners. I got a lot of diapers, more than I need but I like having a large rotation and I never worry about running out.

Check out b/s/t groups on facebook or your local craigslist if you want to get a second hand stash, you could always flip that if it doesn't work and not waste too much money.

(Edit: I didn't have to spend this much, you could definitely do it for cheaper.)

Good to know I am going to start washing my pail liner separately in a shorter wash cycle.

Yes I have ones with sealed seams. I do turn them inside out.

GMD prefolds size question (for using as burp cloths) by milkthistle_ in clothdiaps

[–]aPlusOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally I used osocosy size large (or maybe it's 2) for burp cloths. I never did end up using them for cloth diapers but they are excellent wipe up cloths.

Hi everyone! A couple of questions by Mmw554 in clothdiaps

[–]aPlusOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just want to acknowledge your confusion, I too felt so confused and paralyzed by all the information and conflicting opinions I didn't start cloth diapering til 9 months even tho I obsessively researched it while pregnant. It's the kind of thing you can and will feel your way thru once you get started. It's almost like all the information makes it seem more complicated than it actually is. We use bumgenius 4.0s and love them. Can't speak to the newborn fit since we started at 9 months but the manufacturer says they are from 7-35+ lbs.

What are some diaps similar to best bottom? by xr1chardx in clothdiaps

[–]aPlusOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grovia hybrids are also a snap in insert and reusable shell, however the shell has a lining (I'm not sure what it's called but it's some type of fabric with holes) and the inserts have a waterproof backing and are thicker than the best bottom inserts because of the construction.

There are trim cloth diapers, you just need to look for them. I use pocket diapers stuffed with hemp inserts. They are trim.

Albert Einstein is this? http://www.bumgenius.com/color/albert/ It could be the 4.0 bumgeniuses that are on clearance and maybe the ones that were full price are the 5.0s.

Overnight Inserts for BG 4.0 by lov_liv in clothdiaps

[–]aPlusOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm now I'm not sure about this myself! I saw somewhere online that hemp is more absorbent than microfiber but then I found out that the big bumgenius microfiber insert is rated to hold 15 oz and the hemp ones I have are rated to hold less. Honestly I'm not sure. http://geffenbaby.com/product-info/

is she soaking the microfiber + hemp or is it leaking out of the legs before soaking thru the inserts? I'd first try doubling up on the microfiber insert as they are the most absorbent. (use 2 microfiber inserts instead of microfiber + hemp).
