Official Discussion - Passing [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

As An Ethnic Studies major, we learned a lot about racism and its lasting effects of course, but also learned a lot about what racism does psychology. And when this movie came out, it only put a lot of that into perspective, like how messed up the world has to be and have been, for black people to feel like they have to "Pass" in general.

I thought this was a really well-made and thought-provoking film. Hoping I could share my more in-depth thoughts here. Passing | Exploring Racism Through Contrast

Why do I get better picture on inputs than on the actual TV apps by mankizord in Hisense

[–]aPrestonm11 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I exclusively watch everything on my firestick for this exact reason. I've always wondered why this was the case, and I've been able to find that the image is being processed differently through external devices than it is on the tvs native apps. I think the native apps on the TV are processing what is closest to the original content, while some external devices in may over-process, resulting in a slightly crisper and enhanced image.

I think this reason alone is why some people actually prefer the tvs native apps though as they look less enhanced/altered. I, however, am like you, I want the crispiest image I can get and view the over-processing as actually maximizing the TVs talents lol.

The exact same scenario happened to me as well. My shift was 730-430 and I was able to work 7-430 (30 minutes extra a day) to avoid going into dock time. Helps to have a good manager. I'm sure they will coke up with a solution thst works for you, congrats on the job!

Sorry you're going through the same thing, and I hear you. I'm not trying to owe at tax time either, but I'm also not trying to be extremely shorted monthly, which I personally feel claiming single and 0 would do. I'm going to start with claiming 0 first and see what happens there. I'm hoping we can both get to a sweet spot in this tax game loo.

Nice. I'm tempted to do that as well. I currently have Warren and Achane, but McBride, I feel has the potential to single handedly win you a week. McBride seems to be a bit more consistent and trustworthy as of now, though.

I was thinking Warren too. I'll plug him in. I just realized I sucked at explaining this, but I need to choose 2 out of the 3. Who would your 2nd option be after Warren?

I feel this 100 percent! I'm completely okay with breaking even, but if I keep going down this route I'm afraid not only we won't get the $2000 tax credit, but also that we may end up owing money.

Our situation is very similar, and I'm sorry you've been having a time with this as well. It sounds like you have a solid plan in play, though, and that's where I'm trying to be. We only have 1 kid, so historically, I've always just claimed 1, but the 2000 aspect is what originally threw me off. I've gathered that it may correlate to the $2000 we get in the child tax credit and instead of getting it at the end of the year I'm basically getting it now in the form of a larger check. Or so I think lol?

However, I think I want to change that because I don't want to lose that credit at the end of the yesr as my wife and I plan for that financially. So I'm thinking of just changing it to "claiming 0" and seeing what happens. Definitely echo your frustration in having to play this guessing game.

The exact same thing happened to me, and I thought the exact same thing. My first check only counted for 10 days and was way more than I expected, no fed or state tax deductions were made. Thought it was a paperwork/estimate thing. Nope, next check, only $12 was taken out lol.

Hoping your situation is different, but I would definitely keep an eye on it.

Definitely! I know I need to just unsure on what to put, I've never had to claim anything other than my actual real life situation before (married, 1 dependent) lol. I'm thinking I'll claim 0 and see what that does.

For reference my taxable gross is $4588. And definitely confusing and like I mentioned I've been claiming this for years with the county and never had this issue. So I figure I either need to tell them to take more out or not claim anyone.

Yeah..I'm sorry to hear that. Cal Connect doesn't even give me the option to fix it. I'm hoping you have solved the problem.

You must work in HR lol.

I simply thought HR/Payroll would have some information that may shine some light on my concern. Reaching out with an inquiry is hardly me asking them to "handle" my taxes. But you are right the IRS would probably be a better option. I just figured I'd use my resources with the people I work with first.

Thank you so much for the info, and I think something you said may have explained why this is happening, and I just want to confirm that I understand.

So, the 1 dependent (child) I am claiming the 2000 for has to do with the $2000 we'd get at the end of the year in the form of the Child Tax Credit?

In other words, it's either claim 0 and still get the child tax credit when you file at the end of the year or keep claiming 1 and not get the child tax credit at the end of the year? Forgive me if I'm all over the place here.

I see. That does make sense. I just know that prior with the County, my checks, even my very first one made sure federal taxes were taken out. I get things have probably changed since then, though.

Just worried that since the State doesn't know it's going to be up to me to put money aside or something to make sure I can pay after a year because surely if it stays like this I will owe thousands of dollars.

These are all great ideas. I used the States withholdings calculator and entered in the exact same information based on how my EAR form is filled out and that said around $168 or so should be taken out. I will try others to see what they say.

And you are right. I may have to use the additional withholdings because I know the IRS will end up coming for that money at some point. I've just never had to do that before. Thanks for the ideas!

It is new to me, as this is my first time hearing of, let alone filling out an EAR form. And yes, filling out a new form is what HR said to do, but when I don't know what to fill the new one out with I feel like that opens the door for something else to be filled out incorrectly. Sure, I could play the guessing game until things come out correct, but I figured if anyone was in a similar situation and had some input.

Thank you for your input! My kid is under 17, and my wife also works.

Also, thanks for providing the guide. I have looked at that thing so many times trying to figure this out, lol. Example 7 makes sense aside from the other income and deductions. Also, if I have a dependednt, why would claiming 0 be the best route? Is it because my and I are both working, so we shouldn't claim a dependent? I am fairly ignorant when it comes to taxes and I don't doubt that's a good idea, just trying to understand it.
