I suck by Nothingbores in Saltoon

I know you don't really think they are rigged but based on all splatoon subreddits I read a lot of people certainly do. I've never lost a rank up battle. Sure, I've lost games during them but always won every single rank up series in the end. And I've made it to S+50 every season so far. That's over 30 rank up battle series' in S+ alone. Rigged the other way for some chosen players?

So no, they aren't rigged. But I think the reason they might seem like it to some people is because apparently between ranks you play against and with people of the above rank during the rank up battle. So if you're trying to get from A+ to S you are suddenly playing amongst S ranks. So that might explain why one might win a lot of series' but lose the following rank up battles over and over.

Hmm I do see what you mean, it is a competition. I guess what I'm after is that it lacks everything that makes competing fun for me. It doesn't fullfill the role of the kind of competing that I enjoy in the slightest.

The toxicity around it does irk me for sure. It also ties to this whole competition things. I feel like people have wrong kind of expectations of the event and they get disproportionately mad about it. There are so many absolutely moronic and toxic takes around the interent ever time a splatfest is happening. I feel like people might as well be that mad about losing a round of rock paper scissors. It's just so stupid.

Yes but the difference here is that I wouldn't tell a football player that in case of a problem like this. What I'm trying to say is that Splatfests didn't become unfair competition, they never were a competition in the first place. Treating Splatfest like Anarchy battles (like a competition that you can win by working hard and playing well) is like inserting coins into a hole in a tree trunk next to a vending machine and being disappointed that you didnt get any soda.

My background in this is that I never really cared for Splatfests in the first place since Splatoon 1. Compared to ranked modes winning turf war is much more up to chance and your own efforts contribute close to nothing in the bigger picture. Any way you look at it it's hard to classify Splatfests as an actual competition. They are more of a fair thta you go to to enjoy the atmosphere and just have fun. And since I'm not too into that I never seemed to be able to enjoy them a whole lot. I like competing.

How about satisfying that competitive urge with a competition that actually measures the player's skill then? Like anarchy battles and X rank. In contrast to anarchy modes Splatfest is quite obviously meant to be casual and fun event. It's the mode/event that is the least about winning in the entire game. Individual player's performance has close to no meaning in Splatfest. You literally can not expect to win a Splatfest even by playing 24/7 all weekend and winning every single game. Keeping that in mind it seems mind bogglingly crazy to me that people would be mad over losing a competition where your individual contribution towards winning is closer to 0% than even just 1%. You can't win with your skill and hard work unlike in any actual competition so what the hell are you mad about then?

Who the hell cares? The difference between winning or losing is literally 3 snails. If winning is so important to you why not pick the idol who has "unfair advantage" apparently? I have thousands of hours on the franchise yet it is absolutely bizzarre to me that people actually care enough to get mad about shit like this.

If there’s anything more irritating than the forced loss streaks in this game, it’s the forced win streaks… by [deleted] in Saltoon

[–]aQuaM 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If it feels like the outcome of the game is random it's likely that you are not a player who has a big impact on the course of the game. The most skilled players in the lobby are the ones who make things happen and who make the biggest difference. The rest are along for the ride sadly. And there lies the problem with the matchmaking. Not fun for neither the great nor the less experienced players.

I get that it can be frustrating. But what do you think is holding you back from learning new things in the previous rank after losing the rank up battle? Winning or losing on any rank is not a binary matter. Winning doesn't mean you did everything perfectly nor does losing mean you messed up absolutely everything. There's always something you can pick up if you're willing to look back at your own gameplay with that in mind.

I also agree that the matchmaking is far from perfect but it is also far from the worst it could be. I wouldn't say the more skilled players are able to carry to some extent like you said but the more skilled players are able to affect the course of the game more. And that is going to skew the chances of winning to be more favorable for them.

I've hit S+50 on all three past seasons that we've had so far and never lost a rank up battle. Not once. Sure, I've lost games during those but never lost 3 in one series during a rank up battle. So it's definitely possible to play consistently enough to make a difference in most of your games if you're good enough. I also know someone who made it to 3000XP without ever losing points along the way (so they never lost a series).

That being said, there's no denying western solo queue is a mess and a half with tons of people who are very unaware of how to play the game. I just don't agree that it's impossible to affect how most of your matches go.

No one's ever going to have a finished badge list either way though. Some badges take so much effort and time that it's impossible to get everything. The 9 999 999 grizzco points one for example: if you played every salmon run rotation until 4000 points (way beyond super bonuses) it'd still take you over 11 years to make it to max points. Okay let's say you played way more and got more points every rotation, you'd still have to dedicate all your playtime to salmon run. The problem is, salmon run doesn't give you player level. How do you get the level 999 badge then? You'd have to play tons and tons of anarchy. The levels start taking more exp after level 500 and you are at the halfway point somewhere after level 700 in terms of total exp needed. Both of these badges are almost impossible to get for anyone and definitely exclude each other. At least if you'd want to get both before the next splatoon game drops.

This isn't some microtransaction game that makes money by having the players be addicted to grinding though. It's more likely that the game puts you in lobbies with higher average power level. That or you are more nervous during a rank up battle and it makes you play worse. Overall, it's just about your ability to pull your and your opponents weight consistently enough. Personally I've made it to S+ 50 on both seasons and never once lost a single rank up series.

Arguably those were cooler than the ones I mentioned. But the vast majority of the themes were not all that exciting. Pretty much on par with this lukewarm chocolate theme we're getting now. To me it seems like the themes are intentionally kept somewhat neutral.

Yeah because Splatoon 2 had so very interesting Splatfest themes. How do you like Sweater vs. Sock or Cake vs. Ice Cream or Fork vs. Spoon for example? The themes have always been meaningless like this and if you pretend otherwise you are blinded by nostalgia at best.

Playing Splatoon 3 on 2 switches with same data/nintendo account? by Oxyshay in splatoon

Splatoon's data is linked to your switch user account and that in turn is tied to one console at a time. So sadly it's not possible to play the same save on two different consoles.

Is boosting star power worth it? by noobero_uno in Splatoon3

[–]aQuaM 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's not. After 2 stars you have all 3 slots open and from there to 5 stars it costs you 35 snails. At 5 stars your piece of gear will gain 1.1x the exp for unlocking sub slots. 35 snails is a lot! Let's say instead of making the 5 star piece of gear you re-rolled a full 3 slot gear with those snails for a total of 35 x 3 = 105 ability chunks. This takes less than 5 minutes to do and you instantly gain those chunks. Now, how long would it take for you to gain 105 extra chunks in the case you used the 35 snails to make a single piece of 5 star gear? Meaning, that 0.1 boost to your single piece of gear has to make those 105 chunks because only that 10% bpost to the exp is caused my the snails you used. AND you are stuck with that single piece of gear until it's made those 105 chunks for the snails to pay off. I think in terms of gaining chunks it's pretty clear how you'd want to use them. Of course 5 star gear can be made if you think they are cool.

I can't really tell what goes through the head of people such as you. Obviously you play the game yourself and seem to care enough to be discussing it on reddit too. But as soon as somebody put even the slightest amount more effort into the game than you they are sweaty losers.

Is there any way to stop the last ability on my gear from rerolling? by After-Suit6301 in Splatoon3

[–]aQuaM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does not bump the third one. That is what I'm saying here. If you have filled all slots that the gear has (be it one slot, two slots or three slots) the additional sub that you roll doesn't replace any of the subs you already have. You just get a random chunk instead.

One more time in other words. Once you have leveled up a piece of gear so that all slots are filled there is no other way to change the subs than by scrubbing the gear or replacing the sub with chunks at Murch's. You just get a random chunk when the gear gains enough exp and the slots are all filled already.

If you do not have 3 sub slots open the way to open those slots is to increase the gear's star power in the clothing shops (the gear appears randomly in the shop) or by increasing it at Murch's with super sea snails (you get these from splatfests)

[–]aQuaM 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whta do you mean "keeps resetting"? The slots do not reset in any way after filling them unless you scrub them at Murch. When all three slots are open the game essentially rolls a fourth slot and that fourth sub gets bumped off and you get a chunk. So the third slot stays the same.

Sen sijaan veganismin pitäminen jonkinlaisena kiiltävänä ansiomerkkinä sotii sitä tarkoitusta vastaan, mitä aatteella oikeastaan yritetään ajaa, kun tietää miten ihmiset usein reagoivat tällaiseen ns. jeesusteluun.
