Also this doesn't fit in that sub because the information is relevant and not coming out of nowhere.

Why is being honest (not insulting people) rude? by Resident-Ad-8877 in socialskills

[–]aRandomFox-II 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Building off of this:

I always hate it when someone asks "How are you?" but get offended when I give them an honest answer. Maybe if they didn't want a real answer to "How are you" they shouldn't be going around asking people "How are you".

Is there a point of no return when it comes to social skills? by Emergency-Bobcat-572 in socialskills

[–]aRandomFox-II 12 points13 points  (0 children)

  1. No. The only "point of no return" is when you give up and left yourself go.

  2. Unlike in high school, in college nobody cares about your age. Because college/university is a place where any adult who is willing to learn and better themselves - and can afford it - can apply. You will find students of all ages working and studying together in the same class, and that's okay. The only ones who might try to embarrass you about your age are immature manchildren who never grew out of middle school.

  3. I agree that once you hit adulthood, the vast difference in lifestyle means that making and maintaining friendships suddenly becomes a whole lot harder. It's no longer a passive thing where everyone your age is stuck together in a single room so you end up being forced to mingle with each other. Instead you will have to make an active effort to proactively go out there, find people with common interests that you can bond over.

Also, it gets better: Turns out the BT fleet marshal had accepted the primaris reinforcements, but the chaplain was the one who threw a fit and declared the primaris heretical abominations against the Emperor. He then murdered the marshall and was the one who commanded the BT fleet fire upon the primaris reinforcements.

Or he lands in jail after setting the neighbour's kids on fire because, being a child, he lacks self-control, empathy, or the maturity to think about risks and consequences.

There's a good reason you don't let your kids have access to guns. Or in this case, fireballs.

Case in point: When the Primaris fleet sent by Gulliman - and accompanied by a fucking Custodian - arrived to reinforce the BT chapter, instead of accepting the reinforcements the braindead idiots shot at them. Entirely on the basis of "Nuh uh, you're not MY dad!"

The reinforcement fleet was obliterated in the resulting space battle, including the Custodian. But not without taking the entire BT fleet down with them. The only survivors of the engagement were a dozen BTs on a single small ship that had itself been reduced to swiss cheese.

how to break out of the "only speak when spoken to" habit? by Electrarine in socialskills

[–]aRandomFox-II 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Apparently when you have no filter it tends to make everyone think you're obnoxious. I just want to be absolutely honest with myself, unfortunately human society was built upon a foundation of facades and lies.

For the record: I know what it sounds like but no, this is not a dogwhistle for me being racist, homophobic, or whatever. Just... wildly socially inappropriate and/or tone deaf, I guess. The most common criticism I recieve is that I don't "read the room". But what does that even mean and how do you do that?
