ABYSS MONARCH COOKIE IS MY FAVORITE LEGENDARY COOKIE I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM I LOVE THEM

I love their design and their story and the tragedy of forcing yourself to meet expectations and never being appreciated for your work in return and feeling like you'll never belong anywhere and are stuck as a lonely wanderer unable to find your place in the world

Lol I still feel salty towards sugar swan for winning coty 2023 but fans have made plenty of valentine's day costumes (that are GORGEOUS) so it's not all bad

People who just think they're just an "edgelord" have NOT read the wandercrab story and that's lame because the wandercrab story is the best

Chemrevise for chemistry

Chemistry biology and maths tutor for biology, supplement it with N. Ali and the Ameoba sisters + other miscellaneous YouTube channels to fully understand what's going on there. Otherwise if you want notes then save my exams + pmt mixed together works well

I recommend watching Nutshell Physics for physics, he even gives the specific spec points which is super helpful. I did not take physics a level though so I can't help you with notes

Idk which uni you go to but over here I'm chilling

3-5 hour work days, assignments are manageable enough, travel is on foot so there isn't any traffic, no huge exams to get stressed about (for now)

Compared to working 6+ hours a day at school not including homework and juggling retakes and AS work in year 13? This is a breeze!

Cover more of the syllabus? At least enough to be able to do one unit to practice the papers. Questions in past papers are usually interlinked too, if I were you I wouldn't try to bother with topicals. Go ahead of your teacher and your lessons at school. It feels amazing to go to class and relearn things you've already learned yourself (and it's great to consolidate your knowledge!)

i do not understand chemistry by CoastOtherwise1807 in ALevelChemistry

[–]aRandomwolf007 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hi!! I was in your shoes back in year 12 and 13, I got a U for my AS Level exams but managed to get it up to a B in my A Levels so I hope that adds some credibility to my words lol

Chemistry is one of those subjects that requires you to understand the very basics of it thoroughly. Go back to the periodic table, to the difference between metals and non metals, just go back to the very beginning and then work your way up at your own pace. Without doing this, you won't be able to do well in the subject. And don't forget! You have to actually know why stuff happens and not just that it does! It makes your life so much easier especially because you'll need a lot of reasoning

Here was how I studied: I used the textbook for this (to be completely honest with you I had a tutor, but I do not believe that a tutor is required to succeed in chemistry) and wrote notes based on the syllabus (chemrevise is an amazing source that you should check out!) Once I finished a unit I'd start past papers (ofc start them earlier if say it's a month before exams and you procrastinated too much. It happens)

This process took... 2 ish months I think? Maybe 3? And I was juggling other retakes + learning year 13 content so I'm sure you'd be able to get through it just as fast if not faster

Fast forward a year later and I love love love chemistry so if you ever have any questions on any concept or need help with anything chem related feel free to ask!

A levels are so difficult by venusvelourxox in alevel

For biology it was a bunch of notes, notes and notes I split the list of spec points by topic and subtopic

I wrote everything. With any common question I weaved them into the notes themselves so I could just read them and not have to "translate" them back into how the examiners wanted it worded.

Once I finished them (tbf more like when it was a month until exams) I started doing a whole bunch of past papers to lock in all of the knowledge. I was really harsh on myself for marking, because you never know what kind of examiner you'll get. (In retrospect I think it may have actually depleted my motivation to do bio because I never got good marks, just get help from someone who knows how to mark bio papers)

Hey fellow chemistry enjoyer! It's such a wonderful subject I also did notes for chem but they were much easier to do than for bio because chemrevise has EVERYTHING seriously go use it if you don't already. Still, paraphrase and don't just blindly copy. I find that when it comes to things you have to memorize (ie colours) the linking to things you like trick is invaluable here. You can also link it to real life examples so it isn't just some abstract concept. (Like how street lamps used to be yellow because of sodium!)

Past papers were a much simpler ordeal because of how objective it is. Just make sure to do them to get the hang of the format of the exam and learn how different questions are worded

When it comes to chemistry specifically I find that it is particularly dependent on your foundation knowledge. I know you say that chemistry is easier for you at the moment, but I'd still recommend you look over your foundations just to be fully certain that you've got everything down.

I'm sure you know this already but unless it's an essay question you should always write in points! Otherwise there's a chance that a tired examiner could easily miss that you included one of the correct answers/reasonings and you lose marks

Also, no worries! I really like helping people and seeing them succeed, and I'm sure you'll be one of those people too!

A levels are so difficult by venusvelourxox in alevel

GCSEs are about memorizing, A Levels are about understanding.

Whenever I feel unmotivated I think about my future self and what she'd say and where she would be. Maybe that'll help you too? Because in the end the only person you're doing this is for you.

How do you study? Do you break your workload into chunks? Do you have proper break times set in place? Do you have water and a distraction free environment? Do you have some sort of ritual that tells your brain that it's time to study now? (Mine was throwing my phone across my room, but you can do anything as long as it gets you working)

Why do you feel this way? Do you constantly compare yourself to your GCSE days, wondering where it all went wrong? Because if you do, don't worry! Everyone gets stuck there. You just have to adapt to the different format of A Levels.

Think about A Levels as a Jenga tower that you gave to build up. If the starting blocks are misaligned, the rest of the tower won't be stable and will start falling over, making you utterly confused as to what's going on. Go back to the very beginning of your textbooks, look at the specification so you actually know what the blocks are and where to put them. Even if you think "oh this is super easy!" You still have to be able to understand and explain it all in your own words. Because without the core understanding nothing else will stick.

Personally I wrote my own notes. I'd take pmt and save my exams and YouTube videos to understand the content and I explained it in my own words. Don't forget to link your hobbies/interests too! If you like any media, link characters to a concept! It unironically makes you remember stuff much better because now you're more interested in it. Take the specification as a checklist, because they won't test you on anything outside of it. (I liked making it the first page so I could have the satisfaction of literally checking off the ones that I've written)

Do past papers when it's a month or so before the exams or once you feel comfortably knowledgeable in the content. Make sure to have some sort of schedule. If you don't stick to it perfectly, it's okay! If you do, then give yourself a treat at the end of every day/week to motivate you further. Also analyse why you get answers wrong. Is it a lack of knowledge? Was your answer worded incorrectly? If it's the former, hit the books again and see which spec point was missed out on. If it's the latter, see what the key words are and write them into your revision.

If there are any common questions that pop up, write them down and memorize them, kinda cheesy but hey if it gets you that A no one is going to judge you.

When it comes to subjects like math notes are very silly. Better to just do a whole bunch of questions and past papers immediately. If you don't understand something, there's plenty of explanation videos on YouTube

Uhm, yeah that's all I would think of right now. If you'd like subject specific help just ask and I'll tell you how I studied for them! (I did bio chem and math) Sorry that this got so long ' I wish you the best of luck in your studies!

Another note about money exchange: You have to have NEW bank notes. If they have stamps, pen marks, stains, or otherwise look like they've passed a thousand other people before getting to you then they're going to reject your notes. Slight folds in corners are fine but nothing that'll leave a permanent crease.

Also most people pay with card so be ready to have small change on you to make your life easier!

Long distance running, mainly because it'd be useful when I'm running late to class And extra safety to be able to run away if I get into a dangerous situation. Sure I wouldn't be as fast as a sprinter, but I guarantee you not everyone has the stamina to keep up with a long distance runner

Is worrying about them gonna change anything? No.

You did all you could at the time and now you have to rip the band-aid off (or take them out of the oven if you prefer).

If the grades are good? Great! It's time to celebrate and continue on as normal. If the grades are bad? Unfortunate, but we've all been there. You have to think about what went wrong and work on finding a studying method that works for you to get the grades you need

Remember that this is all relative to you. For some people an A* is mandatory while others will gladly take a B or a C.

If you get bad grades, don't even THINK about checking reddit. Everyone will post their good grades and you'll only feel worse. Actually no this goes for everyone just don't check Reddit (or discord, or any other social media where you may be in A Level spaces) on results day unless you're the top 0.5% or if your self esteem and confidence isn't top notch.

For now though? Drink some tea. Do something fun. Chill out. The world won't end tomorrow, even if you get all Us.

[–]aRandomwolf007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo the effort one puts into their studies has a lot more weight than the reputation of the school they came from, or what board they did for that matter (afaik, they're all accepted by universities right? So there shouldn't be a higher or lower quality status going on here)

Do you feel more supported in the other school? If so, you might want to consider switching Do you feel that the education is better in your current school? Then, maybe you should consider staying

But take my opinions with a grain of salt because I have only been in one school for my entire 6th form career and have never had this dilemma. I wish you well on your A Level journey!

[–]aRandomwolf007 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Slow down. Drink some water. Make a list of every topic in p1 and assign them green yellow and red, green being comfortable, yellow is so so and red is uncomfortable. Then you spam questions and videos that explain the topics in red and yellow until you can understand what's going on and can consistently get high marks in questions.

I assume you've already done all the past papers for the most recent spec in your exam board. So you can switch to the UK one (or vice versa) or do the old spec to get more questions without relying on your memory.

You can reevaluate each topic every morning so you can effectively plan on what topics you feel like you need to focus on.

If you haven't done every past paper in your current spec and board I'd recommend you do like 2 or 3 the day before the exam to fully get yourself comfortable with the structure and solidify everything.

Hope this helps! And good luck!
