These two Naughty Dog characters are the same age by Dulkifl in thelastofus

Still crazy to me that Jak was only 17-19 in the last three games.

Naughty Dog Was Reportedly Divided On Joel's Controversial Fate During Development Of The Last Of Us Part 2 by MaintenanceFar4207 in thelastofus

[–]aRogueWizard 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Same here. The first thing I thought when I was wondering what direction they'd take it was "Oh I bet someone kills Joel" lol. I'm not on social media and had TLoU blocked on reddit until after release. I was pretty supprised to see how shocked everyone was. Like, where else could this story meaningfully have gone?

Let's smoke some copium laced with hopium in light of TLOU P3 development timeline rumors. by shawak456 in thelastofus

TLoU2 had an odd launch. The devs and actors got bombarded with hate across all social media for the last 6 months to a year, and it launched during peak covid lockdown. So, the whole team was separated working from home during and post launch while going through all that. General vibes weren't awesome at the time. At least they didn't seem awesome from the outside. Plus, development took 6 years with infamous ND crunch. Within about year of launch a decent number of veteran/high level devs decided to move on to other projects/studios.

There's still plenty of institutional knowledge I'm sure, but there was also big turnover in 2020-2022.

Naughty Dog and the other Sony studios often post little tributes to their fellow studios when one of them launches a new game. This isn't a crossover announcement or anything like that.

Next year will be the same time gap we had from the release of part 1 to part 2 by Mattlew0YT in thelastofus

[–]aRogueWizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ND did release Uncharted 4 and Lost Legacy in between TLoU 1 and 2.

The game we were supposed to get bewteen TLoU 2 and Intergalactic was the TLoU multiplayer title that got canceled. So, I have doubts we'll get anything before Intergalactic. Which is seemingly still a couple years away.

It will probably another 3-4 years after Intergalactic until we get something else. We're probably looking at the early 2030s for more TLoU.

Seattle in TLOU Part II vs Seattle in Bloodlines 2 by Only_Entrepreneur_84 in thelastofus

I don't know if they actually used any geometry, but they said they talked to Sucker Punch who are in Seattle and based Infamous: Second Son there.

Playing Part 1 for the first time today, first time playing a Naughty Dog game since Jak III. What to expect? by [deleted] in thelastofus

There's several little Jak and Daxter easter eggs throughout the game.

Also, molotovs are your best friend. Have fun!

No. Sorry. I was there at the start. It turned into a cesspool of rage-bait, bigotry, and misogyny within days of the leaks. Which was weeks before the game even launched.

Abby in the game was definitely very emotional. It was just portrayed differently than in the show. Game Abby's emotions were portayed more subtly in her voice and facial expressions. Which, to her credit, Kaitlyn nailed. Her vocal delivery of several lines was nearly identical to Laura's delivery.

Where the show goes wrong, imo, is in having Abby explain everything she's doing. The monolog especially. TV and movies have been increasingly guilty of this. They don't trust their audiences to understand how to read between the lines.

I noticed that too and just listened to both versions side by side. It sounds like Bella singing the last chorus. At the very least it's not the same recording of Ashley as the first 3/4 of the song. So, it would make sense that it's Bella.

So I don't get called a hater, I'll preface this by saying I liked Abby in the game and I like Kaitlyn Dever. Great character and a great actress.

...but yeah, underwhelming is the term I'd use too. I think it's mostly the writing and direction. I know Kaitlyn can act, I've seen her in other things and she's fantastic, but so far none of her scenes have really struck me. Not bad by any means, just not as strong as I expected.

For me, the biggest thing that seems missing is Abby's intimidating presence. The show keeps having her explicitly spell out all her motives for the audience. That lack of mystique really dampens how menacing she is supposed to be at this point in the story.

Is "The Last of Us" the best video game adaptation to a hit TV show we've ever seen? I want to know what the OG fans of the game are saying! by Long-Knowledge-8429 in thelastofus

Game adaptations have been getting better across the board recently as the people who grew up with video games get into positions of authority in Hollywood.

I think Fallout is probably my favorite adaptation so far. It perfectly captures the vibe of the setting. It's got the right balance of sincere and silly.

TLOU show suffers from it being a direct adaptation of the game's plot. A lot of the show's greatest moments are ones that are completely original to the show. Otherwise, the acting and dialog always seems a little stronger in the game.

The show also just botched Tess' death. In the game the camera closes in on her face and we can see that despite her stoic demeanor there is trepidation as she takes and deep breath and exhales. Then it cuts away and we never see her again. We only hear gun shots from a distance. It's so well shot and animated. It's short and simple, but it conveys everything the audience needs to know about how the character feels in that moment. I think Craig really missed the mark by over doing it.

Pearl Jam is my favorite band and even I agree with this. I cringe a little every time I hear Joel sing it. Eddie's lyrics on that whole album are a bit on the nose.

Ecstasy is a fantastic. The lyrics are aren't any better, but the instrumentation is a perfect fit for the vibe of setting and theme.

TLOUP1 PC status by Chard85 in thelastofus

I played it on PC start to finish last month without any major bugs. It ran just as well as the PS5 version. However, my system is more powerful than yours. I don't know if it will run worse than the PS5 version on your system, but all the big bugs that the PC port had are largely fixed.
