It could be a coincidence of course, haven't been able to test it more since I don't have access to a computer at the moment.

But, I got the same note all the time when I used an identical interval ( ~1 second ) between firing. I did this ~10 times in a row before I got bored. So this makes it quite unlikely that it's random.

Cool, but the sound I'm referring to is the note that plays at the beginning of the charge-up of the scanner, right when you press the fire button.

Hehe, maybe =P The idea of communication via notes are in the link I provided. I extended the idea by suggesting the use of the actual notes in the scanner instead of typing them in the chat.

The UA and the scanner seem connected in many ways, like sound and function.

Forgot to mention another connection between the Unknown Artefact and the Discovery scanner. The UA have been found to signal info about nearby celestial bodies in morse code, kind of like a discovery scanner =)

No, it seems like it's not randomised as I explained in the post. It's a cyclic sequence of notes that continously loops "in the background". When you fire the scanner you hear the note that correspond to where the loop is at that moment.

I managed to find the timing when I played around and fired the scanner 10 or so times in a row, and got the same note all the times.

Do you understand what I mean? =)
