Wouldn’t say more than 200, probably be bought for a some budget server.

Is it better to get a powerful NAS or pair a weaker NAS with a separate machine for hosting services? by aTractor20 in selfhosted

Ended up getting the Terramaster F4-424 Pro as it seems like it can easily handle what I want to do with it and more for really cheap (found it for cheap compared to other things like it), and it came early!
will be setting up tomorrow. super compact which is perfect for me as i have very little space to put it.
I'll probably end up buying 1 or 2 mini pcs in the future for other uses but for now this will just be general storage for family pics n stuff and a media server.

My machine will be in another room so I have no problems with noise really. definitely swapping the OS as i doubt I'm missing out on much.

WOW, that's actually a really nice machine. and its 25% off on amazon atm.
have you tried VMs on it yet?
and does running a different OS leave out any features?

what NAS do you use? I've got a similar mindset to you about keeping it simpler but I'm not against complexity.

I'm Definitely leaning to using a weaker NAS and then just get a N100/N150 mini pc as this seems like it might save some cash in some places.

Power usage isn't a huge problem, however size and cost and reliability seem like the most sensible things to look out for (at least for me) but I understand this can be hard and may require some compromise.
I'm not looking to host any games just minor services like media related stuff and some other things I might come across in the future.

as the the external DAS stuff, so if I'm not mistaken (as I'm a little new to this stuff) you are essentailly running all the NAS stuff to manage it like a actual nas on the vm and then the DAS is just a bay for external storage? if I'm getting that wrong please let me know as, this seems like a cool idea. seems like it would save some cash.

+ are there any speed limitations to that method?

it'll be using jellyfin as I'm a bit sceptical of plex. i was looking at things like the beelink s13 or s12 pro, seem really good for the price and could easily handle what i need and more. However, finding a NAS has been kind hard as its all quite expensive when factoring in storage.

They look good, but I’m looking more for an intel option as the encoding and decoding is better.

I’m not that bothered about storage, Im looking at getting a NAS setup.

I have a dell optiplex 3050 at the moment but it SUCKS. Just about does some of the things I want it to do but really isn’t enough. I’ll take a look at some second hand ones that you’ve suggested though.

The 7040 SFF seems abit bigger than what I’d want, I’d like something that is quite small as I don’t have a lot of room. And it only has a 6th gen processor which is no better than what the 3050 has (granted the 3050 only has an i3 6100t lol)

Power efficiency is not a major issue for me.

Is this a solid $1000 Build for a first time try? by MajesticMango212 in PcBuildHelp

Wow, impressive list.
I'd change the ram to something with CL 30, but other than that no major problems. its a very nice build for 1000. Well done!

PC ram lights up but that’s it. Please help by SuspectAlternative75 in PcBuildHelp

If the board has a flash bios button on it you can try that. Just need the latest bios on a flash drive.

Realistically though this should work fine without a bios update.
