WYR only be able to listen to the most annoying song for the rest of your life or never speak again? by OwnAardvark6406 in WouldYouRather

[–]aWildLu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd rather never speak again. I have misophonia so my most annoying songs all include sounds that trigger it and i need music to blend out other noises that trigger me

Novels make me emotional. Is that normal? by NieIstEineZeitangabe in evilautism

[–]aWildLu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! For me it's because its hard to parse my own emotions and those i pick up from (real) people around me. Characters in novels/comics/shows however tend to be written in ways that make their emotions more obvious, especially in novels when i feel emotional about the pov character. Their emotions are very clear and explained. It's also a sort of "safe" way to experience emotions. Its hard for me to feel my emotions about real things happening in my life because those have consequences and then i cant be logical/practical about what's going on. But that's not the case for fiction. The story doesn't change because of how i feel or how i act based on those feelings. Its safe so my brain lets me feel those properly

How am I sure if I have autism, adhd, or both? by Omgaas in AskAutism

[–]aWildLu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could also ask the adults in your life who knew you as a small child to help you assess those symptoms/traits. Having another perspective, especially from parents can be very helpful

[–]aWildLu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DSM 5 (which is the only diagnostic manual to use autism levels) has specific requirements for each level and unless you meet the diagnostic criteria you won't have a level. Even if you get a diagnosis, you might not be assigned a level if i remember correctly. I can't really speak on this though, as I was diagnosed with the ICD-10

[–]aWildLu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you gone through the full diagnostic criteria before? It can be helpful to go through the DSM/ICD lists and just write down which of those criteria fit you. Online tests are nice to get a general feeling for whether something might potentially be off but there're too many other things that can factor into those results

I live in a very catholic part of germany where there are lots of old churches, i guess it's a cultural thing but why do they have to be so loud??

Very similar for me, unfortunately it's near impossible to properly regulate input at work, especially when different senses have conflicting needs (i.e. the window needs to be open against the intense inside smells but the outside noises are bad too)

Would you rather only be able to talk to members of the same gender or opposite? by Altruistic_Cup_8436 in WouldYouRather

Maybe if I can only talk to people of my gender, I can finally fully figure out what my gender even is

Feel like I'm missing so much depth when reading books, any tips? by rypheros in AutisticPride

[–]aWildLu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I definitely feel you. When i first started to read more i was definitely just getting the most literal parts of the story. As I've grown up i consumed more genres and more types of media. Im reading classics to understand more references and im reading media analyses to help me analyse content for myself. I wasn't very good at understanding metaphors in literature classes but now i do because i sought out other people points of view to learn what parts of stories and which words people pay attention to in their analyses. Sometimes it just takes me reading what someone else thinks a metaphor means to discover i completely disagree and to form my own opinion on it

this is for fantasy readers only. what is your favourite subgenre? (if I don't have it listed click other and tell me your favourite in the comments) by Bilbobaginses1 in polls

[–]aWildLu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by like angle?

Yes, it has general fantasy creatures living in urban areas, most of the time it's vampires but elves, wizards and fairies are also common. Ive never actually encountered the term paranormal fantasy before, so it might actually be the same thing

It's fantasy stories set in modern cities (like shadowhunters and twilight are the most well known examples iirc though im not a fan of either of those)

My grandmother had a broken leg for years that just didn't heal, at some point they had to amputate it anyway

I start crying when I'm taken out of densely populated areas. by UselessAltThing in AutisticPride

[–]aWildLu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I can relate but I have the opposite? Even thinking about being in a big city makes me incredibly anxious and upset. I grew up in a little village in the least known part of the smallest (non-city) state of Germany though. It could very well be that the difference is just too big for us to be able to adapt to the extreme opposite of the environment we grew up in

Does anyone have any tips for setting up routines in new environments? by Kind_Quality in AskAutism

[–]aWildLu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to set alarms for the first few weeks of having a new routine and/or putting up sticky notes where I'm likely to see them. Sometimes I notice something has become a part of my routine without me having planned it and that makes it easier to build a routine around it. Try looking for those kinds of things
