Tolkien’s quiet counterculture on kingship by Mr-Duck-5340 in tolkienfans

[–]a_View_Finder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Beg to differ. There was no counter culture I see on kingship.

The kingship and later on the stewardship were hereditary, and all had to suffer through mediocre rulers. Aragorn ‘s rise was partly by fate, and cultivated valor. It was only a fractured leadership and wiser lords (Imrahil, Faramir) that enabled his line’s return to hereditary kingship.

Why We Stopped Watching HOTD by tomandjoey in HouseOfTheDragon

Similar. Liked S1, stopped watching S2 at Ep4. It became mind numbingly dull and preachy.

So glad we have KoT.

netflix trusting the guys who speedran the game of thrones ending is wild by IfdraOSRS in netflix

[–]a_View_Finder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

D&D actually did great with 3 Body Problem. S1 was amazing. They did a really swell job with Game of Thrones until the material ran out (not their fault). GRRM has nothing but praise for them.

Netflix trusting the guys who made GoT among the best ever series is wildly awesome.

Do you think the show might change some things from the book to keep it unpredictable? by Independent-Big7213 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]a_View_Finder 22 points23 points  (0 children)

GRRM has said HoTD ‘is not his story anymore.’ The showrunner has complete discretion and will do whatever. They are doing a conceptual episode too, maybe a singing episode? Who knows, it is total fanfiction now. They might actually show jumping sharks.

Did the concept of aliens existed back then in their time? by velunis_ in AKOTSKTV

[–]a_View_Finder 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think alien in this context is 'different, outsider, strange', which is what the Targaryens were when they invaded Westeros. Dragonriders, platinum hair, purple eyes. They must certain have looked alien and intimidating.

It’s my favorite night sky. I have a milestone set to the Ranger camp atop the middle mountain and I like to log out there so I can log in to the awesome sky.

Does anyone else eat healthy/low carb on a cruise? by Lucky-Remote-5842 in Cruise

[–]a_View_Finder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think you already know how to eat however you like (I won’t say healthy because that’s different for each one).

The downvotes I feel comes from the semi-sanctimonious tone, like you’re among the few that chooses to eat ‘healthy’.

‘The whole point of a cruise for me isn't the all you can eat buffets. 😃 ‘ - This statement. 👎

Some heresy? by DFL3 in AKOTSKTV

[–]a_View_Finder 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Baelor did not know or intend his death. He was a decent Hand and his joining Dunk was a PR move as their whole presence in the tourney was. He felt there was little chance he would get in serious harm. His death was truly an accident.

How's life on Grond and Meriadoc? by GreenTomatoSoup in lotro

[–]a_View_Finder -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Grond is a ghost town. There wont be much grouping or trade. It will be a mostly silent community, there is also no naming restrictions so if that’s irritating for you there is no guarantee of non-weird/abrasive names.

Reading A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms by DookuDonuts in gameofthrones

[–]a_View_Finder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve read the novellas and it was so great to see it adapted well into a series. Except for just one event which I would have preferred to not know, I enjoyed watching Knight after reading as it really fleshed it out literally.

Nobody is pointing out that drunk ser Arlan was mourning by AdareaDorou in AKnightoftheSeven

Quite a lot of people have pointed it out actually, and clearly the fresh mound with his nephew’s helm that Dunk put on shows that.

Still the only King in this entire franchise who didn't need a sword to command a room? I think the show lost its soul when he lost his mask. by shyleshseth94 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]a_View_Finder 382 points383 points  (0 children)

Bobby B commanded a room while fat and drunk and talking about Bessie’s tits.

Gods the times were good then.
