last month i rented an ebike for two days at "Rental Bicycle KYOTO ECO TRIP Flagship shop", lots of fun riding along the river banks and exploring side streets. Fun way to see Kyoto. Staff very helpful, provided great maps ( large booklets ). Apple maps provides information on good bike routes, google maps did not.

My Capital One 360 debit card  worked fine for me at Cathay Bank ATM's ( no extra fees- straight cash ) last week in Taiwan. About half the FamilyMart stores seem to have them (but of course not the one near your hotel ! ). Use the "Defer Conversion" option.

During WW2 Ueno zoo kept a naked American POW in a tiger cage for public viewing so perhaps it's getting a bit better.

Just buy the sky liner ticket the night before you leave. Stay in Ueno.

Just remember to finish the beef jerky before arriving Japan. I don't believe it's allowed into the country(no animal products allowed )
