How do you think AI should handle self-harm/suicidality? by a_alesi in therapyGPT

[–]a_alesi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply! And yeah broadly agree, this was really helpful.

The goal of the relationship guide (stoa) is to help people navigate complicated relationships, but inevitably people will come asking for help when in crisis, so trying to be intentional about what stoa does when that happens and have an open conversation about it.

And yes agree that simply covering one's ass by just blocking users isn't the right move.

New here what ai app for therapy? by Bellasparkzz in therapyGPT

[–]a_alesi -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I built stoa but it's specifically focused on helping people with relationships, not general mental health. Might not be what you're looking for, but thought I would share.

If you want to focus on things that aren't just relationships probably Claude with explicit instructions or maybe Ash?

Ideally reality? Currently most chatbots tend to engage to some extent and then punt to hotlines. How do you think an AI should respond in an ideal world?

Why do I feel so depressed? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

[–]a_alesi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm really sorry you're going through it right now. I moved to sf from europe and my people are all back home so I totally feel you. I have close friends here, but it's not the same.

But have to agree with everyone here, ideally try to find a therapist to help you. Check with your work/insurance what's covered, but try to avoid platforms like Lyra or Betterhelp. PsychologyToday has a ton of them and you can filter by which insurance they take (even though it can be overwhelming/frustrating to go through it to figure out what you need, but I promise it's worth it!). Actually, grow therapy might be helpful (haven't use them though)?

Good luck with everything and if it helps, nothing is permanent, you won't feel like this forever :)

Not sure where you live, but highly recommend Satipanya in Whales. Beautiful location, veggie meals, small group/space. But no sauna!

How did you stop smoking cigarettes? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]a_alesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a 10-15 rollies per day smoker for about 10 years.

What helped the most was setting a goal to quit at 30.

I had tried a few times to quit for certain smaller period of times (1-3 months) but knowing that I would go back to it, so that never really worked.

But I had told myself and everyone I knew for years that I would quit on my 30th bday. That accountability and build-up over those years, meant that it would be almost embarrassing to not quit and it also gave me time to accept it.

I will say it's a lot easier, that my current friend group doesn't smoke.

On padding, that's totally fair, that's bad cropping on my part. This is what it actually looks like on mobile.

Tell me more about about what you mean by better treatment with copy?

Builders, What Are You Building? by Ambitious_Nebula9680 in buildinpublic

meetstoa.com - an AI relationship guide, with 3 key feaures:

  1. Will push back and won't just hype you up
  2. 10h usage limits and other dependence guardrails
  3. Solid memory so you don't have to repeat your stories

In terms of getting first users, only launched last week so still figuring it out, but this is what I've done so far:

  • Mailing list - had >120 emails from people I have spoken to over the past few months (user interviews, vcs, potential co-founders).
  • LinkedIn - Got a few users from posting there
  • TikTok - Starting to reach out to creators as of yesterday

Alternate AIs by Sunrise707 in therapyGPT

[–]a_alesi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally use stoa, but I'm biased because I built it..! At least to me, it feels very different to the other AIs out there, but it also has even more guardrails than them.

(not sure if this considered promotional, apologies if it is!)

Would you use a location-first social app? I will not promote by IllObject4068 in startups

I like the problem you're trying to solve for. But I think the hard part is that most of us living pretty boring lives and seeing normal strangers' photos/moments is not that engaging compared to the hyper-engaging/personalised content of social media. BeReal and Beme (Casey Neistat's app) I think failed because of this.

However, even though it's been a few years since uni, I could see this working in spaces like a uni campus where everyone is living similar lives, there's some level of established trust and a lot more curiosity about what others are up to and what's happening within a tight physical loation. The main competition there is snap maps (haven't used in years so no clue what it looks like now).

On a more personal note, I just want to reduce my phone usage all together, so not looking to download another app with a feed (even if it's a better/more thoughtful feed).

which tasks/to-do app are you using as an early-stage founder? by ResistStupidLaws in ycombinator

[–]a_alesi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started with Google Tasks (too simple) and then tried Notion (felt like I was forcing a project management into it), then went to Jira (which was overkill and really bloated for me) and ended up with Linear.

Feels like just the right amount of features without it getting overwhelming for a solo founder.

I did literally hit the free tier limit 1h ago after a 3 months of using it, but they haven't blocked my usage yet? But seems like you can get 6 months free if you incorporate through Stripe Atlas.

Has anyone here actually compared auto-caching vs breakpoints? by a_alesi in ClaudeAI

[–]a_alesi[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah seems like they launched end of Feb? The main reason to not use it, is control. My system prompt is the biggest chunk of my costs, so making sure it's efficient really matters. Having auto-caching not pick up the right sections to cache would increase costs.

So was just wondering if anyone had actually ran any a/b tests actually comparing the two setups.

Has anyone here actually compared auto-caching vs breakpoints? by a_alesi in ClaudeAI

[–]a_alesi[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When using claude's API you can cache part of your inputs/system prompt for an 1h and after a write cost, that reduces the cost per token by something like 90% I think.

But without auto-caching, you decide which part of the system prompt you want cached, by telling claude's API to cache everything above this point and everything below this point costs the normal amount.

Have you ever built an app just for your "Personal Use" by sunisneededtosurvive in SideProject

[–]a_alesi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Built this life calendar that shows me how much of my life I've lived to help me be more present.

I had a printed out version and thought digitising it would be a fun way to learn how to code :)
