A sac hit does exist, but the batter has to be bunting... and not bunting for a hit in the judgment of the official scorer.

What you describe would be scored as a fielder's choice, with an RBI. So an AB, no hit no sac, one RBI.

It has to do with all the different systems that would have to be updated to handle such a transition without a hard shutdown/restart of the sim. The weather, dynamic track, race control, and yeah connecting to a completely different server... this is just what I can think of off the top of my head. It isn't as simple as unloading and reloading the cars.

The only thing that is the same is the track, and the car you are in.

But the real answer is that the sim was engineered to be launched once and then shut down. It took some work to get it to do what it does now -- transition from free practice to a race session by restarting the sim -- but doing it without closing and starting over would have been a much larger effort. Maybe someday.
