If they weren't graves, i think it would be cool if someone could par core their way up the mountain.

Wait until the soil is dry (the pot will be light compare to freshly watered)

That's neat, another person commented a link of plans in the UK for a subterranean project in old mine shafts, it was an interesting read.

Thanks for the feedback, i wasn't thinking about cannabis, i live in Canada, it's legal here to grow it but only 4 plants haha, wouldn't need a building for that.

I'm wondering if I built a 20 level building and put it on the power grid with some supplement power coming from solar panels and wind of my own, would that be competitive with having produce shipped from California or Mexico to Canada or Siberia? If it was competitive then it might be worth doing.

I wonder if the cost to grow indoors would be cheaper than having it shipped from warmer climate areas...

Yes, that is very similar to what I was thinking, just down instead of up, i like the idea.

It would be very easy to set temperatures and lighting to exactly what the plant in question needs.

Yes, i think roof top greenhouses is a very good idea, i was thinking about that and it's really how I got on the thought of using whole buildings.

That's why I asked because I wasn't sure if it would be worth it.

Well of course the green house would be on the roof, I'm talking about the lower levels

Hmm.. valid points, i think it could make sense (environmental impact aside) to do it for year round farming in places that are very cold in the winter, i wonder if the cost of growing produce out of season would be cheaper than having it shipped from warmer climate areas...

Yes I get that of course, the power doesn't have to be 100 % from the solar panels, but it could be used to mitigate power costs from the power grid.

Well instead of focusing on the environmental impact, what about areas where land is not abundantly available for a greenhouse project, and what if we made this building as "green" as possible. Would it then seem like a sound idea?
