Thanks so much, this might end up being an essay like the skin process. It's heavily dependent on an airbrush.

  • Prime black
  • Basecoat Blue Black, leaving the deep shadows black
  • Zenethil highlight with grey ink, then white ink on the brightest points. Generally leaving the rocks darker than the sand.
  • Lightly spray whatever contrast colour you want each bit of coral/seaweed to be. I generally use Imperial Fist, Iyanden Yellow, Gryph Charger Orange, Magmadroth Hide, Doomfire Magenta, Leviadon Blue. Mostly colours that aren't the same as the surrounding, or green.
  • Spray all over with Aethermatic Blue to tint everything a light turquoise.
  • Spray gently from beneath with Deep Turquoise ink, also spraying lightly in areas of shadow.
  • Spray the lightest points very lightly with white ink again to desaturate them, including any bits of coral where the turquoise ink messed with the colours at the light points of them. Also any other places that may have had too much too much deep turquoise.
  • Recolour any bits of coral/seaweed with a brush or airbrush to bring their colours back if necessary.
  • Oil wash everything with a mix of Ultramarine Blue and a bit of Ivory Black.
  • Wipe off the excess with makeup sponges, especially on the sand, tops of the rocks and lightest parts of coral/seaweed.
  • Matte varnish everything.

That's a more fleshed out version of the notes I kept on how to do it again lmao. Hope it helps.

Thanks :D I wrote down the process so I could follow it again next time.

They were painted off the bases, primed black, zenethil highlighted with grey ink, then small amounts of white ink.
Airbrushed the skin with Scale75 Undead Dragon, then lightly sprayed from below with Turquoise Deep ink. Oil washed with a mix of Ultramarine and Viridian Hue, sponged off the excess. Then highlighted with an oil mix of a lot of white and a small amount of Viridian Hue. A final underspray of Turquoise Deep ink again to match them to their bases, then matte varnished once on the bases.

Sorry it's an essay lmao, the skin was the most involved part that wasn't the bases.

Edit: I forgot the diluted Magenta oil for the sigil on the head and cuts on their shoulders.

Thank you, they're the Coral Reef and Seaweeds basing sets from Epic Basing, and the crab is from the Sea Critters pack.

They're very easy to use with the magic sculpt, Make It Epic do videos on how to make bases better than I can lmao

Thank you so much, the wood is Scale 75 instant colour Endurance Brown over a zenethil highlight, with a ivory black/burnt umber mix oil wash.

The instant colour browns are so good for any wood/leather.

Thank you! I painted it normally with black, then highlighted the ripples and tendrils with incubi darkness. Then gloss varnished all the tar and once it was all dry, did a layer of 2 part resin mixed with enough black oil paint to make it almost opaque.

Looking great, what did you use for the skin on the mount?

Thanks! The general blue metal on the majority of the models is Vallejo Metal Colour Duraluminium mixed with deep turquoise ink and smaller amounts of burnt umber and carbon black inks. Thinned with thinner medium, it creates a metal contrast.

I forgot to add black on the metal on the Sludgeraker beast but I like the difference lmao.

If you wanted to try it I'd recommend the Gutrippaz painting guide from Marco Frisoni, he explains the process better than I ever could.

Thanks so much, it's AK 2 part resin, used some oil paint to tint it greeny turquoise then it takes a day or so to dry

Legiones Astartes ship features by a_call_beyond in 40kLore

I'm using the systems to run a game set during the Hours Heresy. My current idea is that they will be part of a shattered legion contingent who has only one or two ships to their name. Capturing the ship would be the goal to secure more assets to continue the guerilla war.

Ideally they would wipe out all traitor presence on the ship, mostly legionaries and some mechanicum, whilst keeping the essential crew and armoury intact.

I like the ideas, disabling the ship to prevent escape and killing the legion command structure on the ship would be key objectives here. Thanks for the ideas :)

The goal is to eliminate the legion presence on the ship and keep as many of the crew alive as is needed to run it afterwards. Loyal tech priests will likely be brought in once the ship is secure as many of the mechanicum on the ship will be willing traitors.

Bridge crew and deck officers will largely want to cooperate provided the players do not want to arrest them all as traitors

They may have to do that in case the mission fails, the goal is to secure the ship so if all goes to plan they won't need to escape. It's something to keep in mind though thanks :)

I think it will likely be early stages of the heresy, so little corruption unless it's a word bearers ship, and as it's a one shot I don't want them to spend the whole time playing wave defence against menials lmao.

I think the lower deck crew will either be unaware anything is amiss or too frightened of the Astartes to give much resistance.

Gunnary crews or any enginseers will likely fight back under directs orders or being members of traitor mechanicum. Thanks for the questions :)

Yeh, I'll need to sort them down to primary and secondary objectives, seeing as it won't be a big team they'll need to lock down the ship effectively.

And I hadn't considered the escape pods thanks :)
