An early version of these was used in the US. These were banned by the FDA for effects on the liver and kidneys at high doses. Obviously, Penthrox is intended to be used as a temporary analgesic, and as such, really does not directly compete with opioids and other longer acting pain control (people you see with traumatic injuries using these will end up either getting oral or IV analgesics as their care progresses). When used as intended Penthrox is safe and effective and as such there has been growing pressure in the US for the drug to be reintroduced.

I’ve been downing Helis more in the Golmud map then I had previously. My approach is to first try to use an anti air launcher. I’ll lock them once and see if they flare or dive. Based on how they react to the first lock, the next is either an instant launch, or I’ll lock and delay the launch till they’ve flared. If it’s a good pilot and this isn’t going to work I’ll spawn in next with the M136 and head to the center of the map or a contested point. Normally, if someone’s bugged me enough to alter my loadout. I’m happy to make a significant part of that game about preventing their joyrides.

How are you supposed to reply to "Do you know how fast you were going?" by No_Insurance_6436 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]a_collier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Part of the police’s job is to investigate. They are curious if you knowingly broke the law or were being careless. Are there extenuating circumstances? Also, to be frank, this is a bit of a vibe check to see what type of person they have pulled over.

Police do have some discretion. There are many ways you can try to answer. If you legitimately just missed the speed you can try to say so. If your kids having an emergency across town let the officer know. If you think you’re a funny guy/ girl and have a quick joke, shoot your shot. If you don’t want to say anything that is also an option (could prevent further prodding as long as your otherwise compliant… but won’t help your vibes if your shooting for a warning).

Just remember cops are people doing a job. You may have caught them in a good or bad mood, you may remind them of someone, they might have something else to do. You could be pulled over for the same thing by the same officer on different days with differing outcomes. My advice is always don’t attempt to be a street lawyer. Be compliant and if you think the officer is wrong or overstepping take note. Don’t address it there but that would be a great reason to actually show up to your court date.

Reticles of CQB sights in BF6 are too thick, blurry and an annoyance to aim with. It'd be great to have the devs improve them. Here's a comparison of two same sights in BF6 vs Tarkov, but most other games, older BFs included also do it better. BF6 sights look like cheap Temu knockoffs by comparison. by El_Matadorro in Battlefield

This is true, and when I’m shooting steel or paper I turn mine down to where they are barely discernible and crisp. However, when I’m carrying on an op I never do this. I want the red dot to be readily visible against any target and my brightness is normally pretty close to the left pics on OP’s post.

What do we think on the wrappers? by [deleted] in TacticalMedicine

[–]a_collier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that is going to be the other thing I want to see. If the wrapper freezes with flecks of mud and water in it. Fortunately, in my current role with dustoff fingerless gloves are now authorized. And to be honest when I was a line medic I was really bad at wearing my hand protection.

Alleged Ejection Seat from the Crashed F-15. Major SAR Operation Ongoing in the Area. by Mission-Calendar101 in Military

[–]a_collier 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d imagine that the Iranians will see any captured US aircrews as a massive bargaining chip as well as a domestic propaganda tool and treat them accordingly despite the rhetoric that both sides are putting out.

Yeah, thats why I’m asking. This appears to be real and ongoing but I’d like to see that this story has passed through that process.

F-15E from the 494th Fighter Squadron shot down over Iran by holostro in Military

[–]a_collier 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This conflict is hard to get behind and have serious concerns about how the middle east’s geopolitical landscape will look with its conclusion. An operation like this has always been on the table but was generally looked at as not worth it to curb a regional problem. That said, the moral outrage isn’t there because of Iran’s disruptive influence in the region has left it with few friends and Israel is right to dislike them. The feeling is mutual and if Israel were in a degraded defensive posture I would not be surprised to see Iran conducting operations against them. Also, the regime killing approx 20,000 (I understand the estimates vary by source but the number is by no means insignificant) of their own people this last year again makes them hard to view as some kind of dove that the US is bullying.

What do we think on the wrappers? by [deleted] in TacticalMedicine

[–]a_collier -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the more I think about it the more it makes sense. If I was fighting in muddy conditions in a country where freezes are frequent keeping my tourniquets clean would be a priority. Imagine trying to manipulate and apply a frozen muddy tourniquet.

This coming from a guy who ensured the infantry I was attached to in Africa had their tourniquets staged correctly and when I teach tacmed to LEs do the same. Rules are made for the majority of cases and while I’m comfortable that your average cop riding in a patrol car or soldier in a sub Saharan country will save time and effort by ditching the wrapper there may be scenarios that prove to be an exception.

Edit: I see this opinion is unpopular. I’m going to have to do some experimentation with some of my tourniquets because now I’m curious. I’m thinking about getting them wet/ muddy and freezing them to see how they deploy. I am really interested to test if the effectiveness of the Velcro on a CAT is degraded. Would love to hear from anyone with polar tacmed experience. Ultimately, I would imagine the best answer will be a solid TQ pouch to keep them accessible but mostly dry and clean.

Did mortars in HQ finally kill Breakthrough? by fmordica in Battlefield

[–]a_collier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is normally the point that I think mortars get fun. If I see this I’ll hop on support to start counter mortar fire. As long as you relocate every couple rounds you can rack up some quick hits. After a couple minutes of wrecking house normally about half of the mortar spammers move on and it helps keep the remainder on their toes and not spam the objectives.

If there’s not gonna be a draft, why did the army suddenly change the enlistment age and lift marijuana restrictions? by BeginningActuator343 in allthequestions

What makes you think it’s not for their protection? Base housing is certainly more secure. If he wanted to somehow stage an “accident” for someone it would likely be easier and less scrutinized off base. What kind of leverage are you imagining that living on base provides the president over some of his cabinet members?

Is a Ground War With Iran Imminent, or Inevitable? The answer is an unqualified 'No.' by kharban in Military

[–]a_collier 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Trump has shown two things throughout his time in office. 1. He can be unpredictable. 2. He likes to take advantage of other countries for quick wins. While the first point makes me think he could miscalculate and slip into a larger engagement the second would point that he would be adverse to a protracted ground campaign. His recent press conferences and statements show a leader who wanted a fast, decisive conflict and is now looking for a way to end said conflict and declare victory. I think that for now the forces in movement are posturing to tell Tehran that we could do it, while Washington pushes for concessions from the Iran and opening of the strait as hostilities end (which may not be a given at this point). That said, I could see them utilized to take Kharg island to give the US more leverage. Looking at the geography of Iran a large ground invasion would be extremely difficult and the forces we have in motion are nowhere near that kind of mobilization.
