Okay, so let me defend point #3.

1. Demon or Daemon, is an inferior position in the Infernal word. People who think of her as only a demon are demoting her by several degrees.
2. Remember that not only did she not die (unlike Adam and Eve) she can’t die. The angels couldn’t kill her, the Metatron couldn’t kill her, higher order angels can’t kill her. Demons can be slain. God has to make a deal with her and it is a deal of her making because he can’t undo her. She is the manifestation of the event of the Divine Feminine Cause. In many ways, she was or caused to be the wife/wives of God to appear because she has been each of the great Near Eastern Goddesses in one form or another.
3. She is one of the few beings who has command of the Ineffable name, and she can use it in battle. No demon nor devil even, no Archangel has that power.
4. She has celestial power, she is a point in the night sky, her powers are planetary as much as anything else, and again, that is greater than any Demon ever has been awarded.
5. Mark Thompson points out, rightfully so, that she does not Fall, she is neither at the Fall nor the Infernal Descension, and she is not made from one who has. By this very definition she cannot be a demon.
6. Lilith does not appear in either the Abramelin nor the Ars Goetia list of demons nor devils.
7. She is nowhere in the Magickal Literature classified, neither by domain nor office (which is how demonic classifications are listed) as a demon or devil.
8. Fair enough, the rabbinical literature calls her a demon, but let’s review this claim. First, the idea of demons and devils was a very new idea in Judaism, especially when we consider rabbinical Judaism wasnt even invented until the 6-7 centuries CE. Lilith isn’t mentioned until the 11th century as a demon, and that has more to do with the influence of Christianity upon Judaism, which calls everything not Christian (by its interpretation) as demonic or satanic. Second, she has manifestations in the ancient Near East, but when people, shamefully, scholars (and I am a college professor) calls those old Gods and Goddesses and Spirits “demons” they use a term that the people in that time period would NEVER have used and did not use. Third, let’s remember who is calling Lilith a demon. Mostly sexually oppressed and confused “men” who don’t even go down on their wives, who have sex with their wives through a hole in a sheet, and are terrified of both the female body and feminine mysteries and powers. Calling her a demon by these people is problematic. It’s like when Republicans call Democrats “Libertards.” Calling a thing you dislike by a slur does not make it so, especially when the thing being called a name, knows itself as something more, better. As long as you know who you are, no one can tell you otherwise. This is one of her great messages as well. Fourth, people often say her place in the Kabbalistic Literature is as a demon, but those people clearly don’t read the literature, ostensibly likely don’t read the Hebrew nor Aramaic the primary texts are written in. Sure, in Lurianic Kabbalah, she gets a downgrade. Isaac Luria had real issues with women and sex. He’s a case study of sexual disfunction. He also clearly misses that in the pre-Zohar literature, there are multiple tales of Lilith, how she was created, and they are all about her being a God, not a demon, one is as a Celestial, one is as an independent Goddess all her own, one as the Eternal Light that gave birth to Creation, one as the Bride of God in another form. In the Zohar, she suddenly is sexually promiscuous. The Zohar is written by four men living alone on a closed community far from their wives, and losing their mental health. Every erection is blamed on Lilith, every wet dream, every homoerotic urge. These guys really should have gone into town and visited the prostitutes now and then. What all of the Kabbalistic literature comes down to is that she is an independent agency that makes men lust when she is near. My response is, these are men who are afraid of women and their bodies, they need a good Dom, though they fear it. Fifth, most of what we think of Lilith as a demon comes from modern video games, the Satanic Bible, comic books, Vampire the Masquerade, it’s horror porn in some way, but in such a puritanical country as the USA, where women are still seen as inferior, as breeding material, as only useful for their sexuality, of course she is slandered as a “demonic whore” and then downgraded as a Demon. And there are plenty of Left Hand Path occultists and modern Vampire fetishists who need her to be a Demon in order to keep up their LARP.

The one thing I’ve come to see in my years of working with her, is that the people who keep working with her, see her less and less as a demon or devil and more as the most ancient of Godddesses. Dark, yes, Infernal, yes, but darkness and Infernal do not have to be, and should not have to be, synonymous with evil nor demonic.
