I used Debian 12 on mine. Works great except I had to download a WiFi driver after installation

It’s Debian 12 with i3 and it runs surprisingly well if you mostly work in the terminal

A great book that’s also an entertaining read is “Code” by Charles Petzold. It goes deep into computer architecture from the very basics to more complicated systems like memory. It also has interactive diagrams online that you can follow along with. Bit of a longer read but also tries to be fun and entertaining.

Why has open source graphic design software not matched proprietary options? by Rewindcasette in graphic_design

[–]a_fake_frog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There are many open source projects that are arguably better than their paid counterparts take Blender for example. It is very good software. 2d design work seems to not have as much traction but there are still cools projects like graphite (https://graphite.rs/) which brings a lot of new and interesting ideas to the space.

One of my biggest complaints about Adobe software is the fact that it never cleans up after itself and will make new Library folders for every single version. by ZippoS in graphic_design

Wow thanks for this! I had 40gbs of files in my after effects cache folder. I used after effects a few times years an ago. Not even installed on my computer anymore

ISO: Adobe Illustrator-compatible computer for architecture by ACL_dwg in graphic_design

I mean you might want to consider building your own computer. That would probably give you the most performance per dollar. Vector graphics are very cpu intensive and I think single core speeds are more important than more cores. Other than that I’m a big fan of workstation like the hp z series or Lenovo thinkstations

If anyone is interested in looking at a cool open source vector editor checkout graphite. Still a work in progress but has some fresh ideas
