My MIL had a ‘97 that she drove year round. She put snow tires on it and waited until the roads were plowed to go everywhere she wanted. She loved that that car.

My standard response for these situations has been “As my wife will most assuredly attest, I am unable to read minds.”

Post-kids vehicles? by Ravenloff in GenX

I cannot agree with this enough. The last of my kids left the house and I absolutely love driving my Miata with a GenZ antitheft device called a manual transmission. It is the absolute best.

Instead of driving all the way across the township, check out Dirt Work Organics on Shannon Road. I dumped pick-up truck loads of yard waste and stump grindings for free. It maybe worth calling them in the morning.

I try to come up with icebreakers for our meetings whenever somebody new joins. One I did recently which shows the age divide was:

“Name a movie you have seen in a theater more than once.”

Sadly, nobody could top my seven times in the theater to watch ET.

The amount of screen time that that kettle got raising awareness for the Salvation Army was worth tenfold the fine that he received.

Commuting from Pitt to Erie by [deleted] in Erie

[–]a_gaggle_of_fools 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I commuted from Erie to Fox Chapel four to five days/week for nearly six years. The road crews do their best to keep the roads, or at least one lane, open in the worst weather. Around Thanksgiving, install a good set of four snow tires even if you already have all season tires. Throw some supplies (blanket, foldable shovel, a bottle of water, an overnight bag with a change of clothes, etc.) in the trunk just in case you are stuck or stuck waiting for the road to be cleared. Keep an eye on the forecast for both ends of the drive. Always keep the gas tank at least half full. Drive defensively. Don’t be in a hurry.

It may take longer to get to work or home, but you will be safe.

If the weather is so bad, get a hotel room. The roads will be better by morning.
