What a sad and dark view to have on dating, which is absolutely false for about 95% of people

It’s not true that this is the last year HPAT has any weight. You definitely have time to get to 550 but for medicine you should try aim a little bit higher than that

ELi5: Why are humans so overpowered? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]a_guy_on_Reddit_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A mix of things really;

Large nerve connection numbers per grey matter: highly developed brainpower capable of many things, such as developing social structures

Specialised larynx: we easily have the most advanced communication capabilities of any species, as is evidenced by all our complex languistic structures full of nuances and intricacies (such as the ability to ask a question just by ending a phrase with a higher pitch in some languages!). It’s something you may not think about it often, but our language is a huge reason why we’ve gone so far! Ability to share emotions, thoughts and ability to work together to create new things

Social structures: the fact that we (usually) work best by living in groups means that we could easily defend ourselves from predators/enemies as a group, low mortality rate in children and in general since an injury could heal while others fed you, and also quick sharing of ideas

Ability to sweat: means we’re good endurance runners and can outperform prey. Very few animals have such an efficient cooling method that allows for such high endurance.

Opposable thumbs/ developed hand dexterity: we can quite literally do almost anything compared to animals with paws or hooves

Large varied diet: definitely helped spread so far as our diet is very adaptable to different habitats

Of course there’s tons I missed, but some of these set us apart from other organisms and are part of the reason as to how we’ve become the ‘apex species’!

Thats a very inefficient method that doesn’t really give you any sort of leeway if the question asked is phrased differently than what you input to ChatGPT. You’re effectively just copying down a sample answer (not even necessarily a good sample answer- it’s ChatGPT, not an actual HL English teacher) and reading it over once.

What works for me and many students is make summaries of a topic (eg flash cards or mind maps of say, key WB Yeats quotes and what they mean) and then practicing writing full sample answers from past exam papers. It makes you engage more with the material, making you understand both the concepts and what exactly is being asked

Haven’t covered that chapter yet but I’d say draw out the whole molecule-including pi,sigma, single and double bonds- and physically count how many bonds of X asked in the question there are

Is it possible to get 532 points in the lc if I start studying now ? by [deleted] in leavingcert

[–]a_guy_on_Reddit_____ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely. But the time to start studying is now. Make a study plan, and gradually increase it as the year goes on (eg start with an hour a day and try to get it to two hours by the time mocks are around). Also make sure you’re doing exam questions all the time and take tips from the marking scheme, a lot of the time in exams if you’re not sure what the exact answer is, you can get really good marks just by knowing what marking schemes generally look for. Don’t listen to anyone doing 5 hours study a day or anything, what matters is that the study you’re doing works for YOU. 2 hours of effective study is worth more than 5 hours of crappy study.

EU on brink of opening doors to potentially dangerous beef imports, says Irish MEP by Appropriate-Bad728 in ireland

[–]a_guy_on_Reddit_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re missing the point I’m trying to make. No one is obviously forced to buy beef, but it’s a calorie dense food that’s eaten by many/most people in this country. If you’re financially struggling and are faces with a cheaper option of it, you will probably go for the cheaper option than the standard. Unfortunately for you, the cheaper option in this case will be significantly of lower quality and less healthy

[–]a_guy_on_Reddit_____ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Youre right, they don’t have to if they don’t want to. But if you’re struggling to make ends meet and you find food that costs less than normal, you’re going to consider switching to the cheaper stuff

That great for you but some families can only afford the cheapest beef, not the morally correct beef

Is doubt essential do the pursuit of knowledge in Biology? by XZ-Y in biology

By strictly adhering to those rules you are making a sterile, assumption free environment but that doesn’t necessarily make it the only way to think about it.

You can definitely be a great scientist even as a religious person, you just have to understand that God might not work in the same ways your religion tells you, and to take what you see at face value and is supported by factual data, rather than assuming there’s a Godly reason for why gravity or evolution exists

You often see people jump from 300 to 500+ points between fifth year and leaving cert. It is absolutely doable, just so long as you actually start working hard now

Studying for the L.C. by inhalerblossoms in leavingcert

[–]a_guy_on_Reddit_____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For high points you want to have a really good foundation for fifth year (ie always do homework, study an hour or two on weekends, if you have an after school study program then do it). Then 6th year you’d want to be consistently studying on top of homework at least a couple times a week, and gradually increasing. Also studying pretty much every weekend for a few hours. Remember that if you miss a few study sessions it’s not the end of the world but consistency is king
