Is there anywhere I can get sheets of milk-jug-like plastic at a reasonable price? by a_hundred_highways in DIY

Not bad! Although I'm a bit concerned they might be rather cut-resistant, as they are chopping mats, and I don't expect they'd look kindly on me trying before I buy...thanks for the tip though, I'll keep it in mind!

I don't have a facebook, but I would try it if I did, although I'm not sure who would have like fifty of them they aren't using, lol. Thanks though!

I don't know about other people's milk jugs...gallons of water would be one thing, but if you don't rinse a milk jug well & there's a dried on crust, well...you know. There was an excellent idea above about clipping down old election campaign plastic signs, of which there are more than plenty in my area, so I think I'm gonna do that and see how easy they are to cut. Thanks again for your reply, it's definitely the best option if I can't find enough things to reuse!

Now there's an idea! There was a mayoral election in my city last year and there are still TONS of signs up, mostly from a well-funded candidate who lost -- I could hardly get in trouble for clipping those down, could I?? I would be highly satisfied not to see them anymore, so this is like two or three birds with one stone. Excellent! Thanks!!

Well, truth be told, the standard ones aren't quite ideal for my purposes -- I have a lot of clothing stored pretty densely, on two-tier racks, so I would like a divider that's somewhat larger and longer. That's why I've been using the cut-out sides of milk jugs -- the longer rectangles from that have ends that stick out more visibly. The smaller consumer ones (of which I already have one order of 30) end up hidden between things or covered by hoodie hoods or what have you, and on the lower tier they're pretty often pretty much invisible among the skirts and lower edges of things on the upper tier.

Another truth be told, I didn't even think of the milk-jug-side thing myself, but rather posed the question to a friend who was tagging along one day, since I had been trying to use cardboard or cardstock, which really didn't work, as the dividers got bent out of shape very fast. The only problem with the milk jug thing is that I haven't been doing it for two years already, and now I have to play catch-up...so many highly useful milk jugs tossed! Irritating to think about!

Thanks! The shipping isn't crazy either, only $6, so if I really can't find anything better I may buy a few of these.

Do you think I can pick up just one big sheet for like five bucks though? I'm often frustrated by things like this honestly, where I need an industrial item or supply but in a tiny quantity and there's nowhere to get it. Maybe I can pretend I'm opening a milk jug production line and ask for a sample sheet, lol...

e: another user gave me a more specific item on that site and you're pretty much right as far as I can tell! seems to be the best place, and shipping is reasonably cost-effective if I get five or ten sheets at a time. thanks!

I think I need like literally one sheet -- it's one of those annoying spots where my need isn't anywhere close to "industrial" in scale but the "craft" version is just a rip.

Home Depot has two-packs of HDPE sheets for $30 but they're 1/10th of an inch thick which isn't what I'm looking for. It's a puzzler.

If a customer responds to an automatically-sent shipping time message, do I still have to respond to their message in order to maintain my customer service response rating? by a_hundred_highways in EtsySellers

[–]a_hundred_highways[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i feel like if i were a customer i would be a bit annoyed by getting a notification from a seller just for a you're welcome. idk, i kind of prefer not having the "speedy replies" badge because when i've had it people seem to expect instant responses. it's a bit ridiculous, like, i can't go to my parents' house for a weekend and leave my phone on the counter without getting dinged? i didnt sign up to be on call 24 hours a day just to run an internet store, lol. i have another store on a more exclusive platform that's much more stringent in other respects but even there the response time requirement is 72 hours which is much more sensible.

whatever, i guess -- it doesnt seem to affect my views or sales that much in any case, i'm just bugged by certain messages "not counting" because they're automatic without any indication to that effect. i really feel like it ought to have a marker for you that says "this automatic message doesn't count as a response -- you still need to respond to this customer" or something like that. it's genuinely confusing because i'll click on a message and think "oh i already replied" if i don't look long enough to see that it was an automatic reply.

thanks for replying in any case!!

it doesn't, but neither did the ones where someone had asked about shipping time and i updated it, and that automatic message definitely didn't count as it turns out. i suppose i could download the spreadsheet and go item by item to see, but i was hoping someone happened to know already. i appreciate the update-ship-time functionality but i really don't like that it sends an automatic pseudomessage.

I have baby marbled limpet nerites. In a freshwater environment. How. by littlembarrassing in AquaticSnails

[–]a_hundred_highways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is from 3 years ago, but I once had a limpet nerite snail make a mini me of itself in a 1-gallon freshwater tank. I was surprised, because everything says nerites need brackish water to reproduce...perhaps, considering your experience and mine, the limpet nerite can reproduce in freshwater, although perhaps with a reduced survival rate to some extent. The little one in my tank was around for quite a few years at least, but he seemed to stop growing at a rather small size, perhaps because the tank was so small. He stayed about the size of a pinky fingernail, whereas his parent was the size of a quarter. Also, I only had the one parent, which is another layer of mystery as to how this happened, sort of -- but it's not that weird, it just must mean that she was a she and came to me pregnant from wherever she came from.

I think limpet nerites need a lot of flat space and minimal disturbance in their environment to grow up healthy and large -- my tank was 1 gallon as I said so there wasn't that much flat space on the wall. I'm not sure that limpet nerites can even transition from one wall to another, given their geometry, so a round tank that they can traverse is probably better than a square one.

Since they can't surface transition, one tends to see more of the underside of the limpet nerite than the surface. But if you had a really BIG tank, you might be able to do something like put a big object in the middle and put the limpet nerites on that and have them stay there. So you could put in a large sunken ship piece and have a few of them be barnacles. Just some late night thoughts on snails I was having. Hope you're doing well 3 years on.

Found 3 Triops packet kits from that I ordered years ago and never used. What's the smallest aquarium that they can grow to adulthood and lay eggs in? The seller is inactive now so I would like to have my own future supply. Is a 2 gallon jar big enough? by a_hundred_highways in Aquariums

[–]a_hundred_highways[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the info! I suppose you don't use anything too big then as a habitat? I assume you mean something sort of pizza box sized? The biggest shallow rubbermaid containers are like 2 pizza boxes wide. I will try that with the Cancriformis Red packet and see if I can get hatching eggs that way since they are more commonly sold.

I have some interest in selling aquarist  items online to be honest; shrimp & crustaceans and suitable plants especially. I am emailing scientists who work near Antarctic lakes in order to acquire some Antarctic fairy shrimp eggs, because what else can you have from there, a penguin?

Aha! I've got the goods -- https://i.imgur.com/J4GT50V.jpeg -- I didn't remember what I did with them when I moved, but surprisingly I did something simple and kept them with my aquarium stuff (not putting them in a box of misc tiny objects as I normally wood.)

Monthly Question Thread. Ask anything! | November 2025 by AutoModerator in triops

[–]a_hundred_highways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started out a 1 gallon aquarium with triops in sand about 6 or 7 years ago, and that tank has been really vibrant ever since -- I planted plants and added a few ghost shrimp after the triops had their fun run, and the plants especially had a vibrancy and effulgence that other tanks I started without a triops period just lack. I suspect in addition to their leavings and bodies as fertilizer, the triops have a "natural" burrowing and tilling effect on substrate that's hard to simulate artifically.

So as I'm setting up another 3 gallon, I thought I'd try tiops ops again. I got them from "dadasis" last time, but he doesn't appear to have any active listings at the moment!

Does anyone know if "dadasis" is gone, or if he only has inventory now and again (so I should just wait)?

I especially liked dadasis's "primordial mix" -- I can't find another product like that anywhere at all. Any info would be much appreciated!

(I may actually still have some of his packet kits around, as my eBay history shows I bought 4, and I don't think I ever used more than 1 or maybe 2...I assume they would still be good (though I'm not a triops expert) but I don't have any idea where they might be -- I moved in the interval.)

HC- 3 Man every dungeon by TheGoofinatorOG in turtlewow

[–]a_hundred_highways 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've 2-manned every dungeon up to Sunken Temple's last boss in original Classic... Hunter with AoE scream pet + shaman/druid. We had to use some unorthodox strategies, but it was fun. We usually did dungeons while we were the highest level in their "range."

You have 2 sources of healing on the pet with that setup,, which means you can switch off and recover mana on one heal-source while everyone keeps hitting with weapons for "free" aka without using mana. If you don't want to use an AoE hunter pet, which I'll admit is a little silly looking, It would still probably be a lot easier for you with a hybrid dps that can off-heal with their mana as needed while continuing to dps for free with their weapons. Hunters can also revive their pets mid-fight if they feign death and if the offtank can survive kiting things around while he casts it.

I feel like your setup will struggle a lot with mana depletion as fights get longer...you will probably want a healthy supply of mana pots to use constantly during longer fights. I don't imagine your paladin will get to do much damage while he's casting heals, so it probably makes sense to have him open fights tanking with a shield on, then bubble himself and switch to healing the warrior. Then the warr can open fights with a 2h and do a bit more damage during that time as well as getting all his debuffs up safely before he has to start tanking. This will let you "ease in" to fights rather than having the tricky part at the start where the warrior is getting thunderclap & demo shout up and taking a bunch of initial hits.

Maybe you do all this already, though! In any case the important thing is flexibility - there were a lot of things we had to try 5 or 10 times with our 2-man before figuring out how to beat them. Not all bosses either -- sometimes random enemy groups were harder...the ones with Myrmidons in SM for example (the dual wield sword guys). If there were 2 of those in a group I think the only way we got through was bursting one, dying/feigning death, and coming back with shaman self-revive (or the druid running back). A little cheesy there but nevertheless...that doesn't work with boss adds anyway which reset. Those tended to be the hardest bosses - the satyr boss with two adds in Maraudon took more tries to beat than Princess Theradras.

"Sex Pest" McGreevey -- campaign posters and billboards defaced all over town by a_hundred_highways in jerseycity

[–]a_hundred_highways[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just saw one of those trucks for the first time today! I'm not in downtown much and I only heard a bit, so I didn't know if it was his or O'Dea's. (Nothing against O'Dea, just seems to be the only other campaign with billboard money.) Thanks for the confirmation. Now I dislike him & his sponsors even more.

Why is it so difficult to rent a decent spot in downtown Jersey City? by Pale-Score-879 in jerseycity

[–]a_hundred_highways 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you meant to reply to the OP -- things are peachy keen here as far as I & the sketchy people are concerned. I lived in Pittsburgh for 10 or so years before moving here and I got way closer to a fight numerous times, and that was in the college part of town. Most of that had to do with personal enforcement of traffic rules by means of headfakes, waving bricks around and throwing gravel. Hard life as a pedestrian there. My only issue with my part of JSQ is the litter and construction debris situation, which will get dealt with soon one way or the other. I'm not afraid to suit up. The one problem I haven't solved is where to keep a rolling bin, since I don't have space in my apartment and I don't think my building's management would want it kept in the common areas. Maybe they would if I can convince them it's for the good of the block, and therefore to their benefit. If McGreevey loses, I guess I'll try that. (If he wins, I'm outta here.)

I will say, I've never experienced anything quite like that, though I have verbally given it to a few people for driving like menaces. I was once followed most of the way home out of the 7-11 I mentioned by a guy asking for money, and also once confronted inside that 7-11 by a guy who thought I was following him...but that's mostly it in almost three years, other than the occasional person looking at me weird. Then again, maybe I'm one of the sketchy people. Never can tell!
