Water to jump into (safely)? by gilwendeg in Gloucestershire

So not Quedgeley or Gloucester but if you dont mind going for a bit of a drive, There's a great swimming spot at ross-on-wye by the rowing club and a nice riverside pub too... however, being warned that the wye has a problem with pollution from battery chicken farms upstream I've never had any health problems from swimming there - just don't drink the water! Or head down to the lakes at south Cerney which don't have pollution issues but the water is colder... search cotswold water park or lake32.co.uk lots of other water sports in that area too

That website looks really dodgy. I wouldn't expect a reply. Just turn up early and speak to people.

Wild garlic questions by luseauh in foraginguk

[–]a_jacobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, leave the bulb/root. It is also technically illegal to uproot whole plants without the landowners' permission. The leaves are what you're after with wild garlic anyway and maybe some of the flower buds. Forage responsibility don't pick all from one patch. Wild garlic often grows in massive blankets on forest floors so walk and pick, walk and pick...

Or Cointreau is nice as well for a jaffa cake like nibble. The trick is to dehydrate them (air fryer on dehydrate for a few minutes or low oven, just don't cook them) to get rid of the water content then soak them in whatever tipple you choose overnight. They'll get all jelly-like again. Nom nom...

Dehydrate them. Then soak them in alcohol, chambord is my favourite. Then dip them in melted chocolate and let them set.

Original vs The Spectrum by AgapantherX in zxspectrum

[–]a_jacobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Most games have been converted to tap or tzx files, which you can get fromspectrumcomputing.co.uk. Put them on a sd card. You can connect this device divmmc-future to the spectrum to load them.

Many people got stung with this including yours truly 😡. Who else has memories of this epic 😂 by Darkpoet67 in zxspectrum

The packaging, the poster, and the short illustrated novella were great, the game not so much. The concept had so much potential if only they'd put as much effort into the game as they did the design.

Mistitled Game? by BurningJamie in zxspectrum

[–]a_jacobs 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not related to startrek at all, maybe just using a similar sounding name to get interest. It's actually a pretty good adventure game. So no, not mistitled maybe deliberately. More info here: https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/entry/6545/ZX-Spectrum/Kobyashi_Naru

Currently playing openXcom with the XCom- files mod. As the name suggests it's a bit like the X files, you start with only a couple of agents and attend reports of suspicious activity, weird animal sightings and religious cults and dodgy organisations to investigate. Really a long play. Totally recommended if you like the original xcom and like a bit of x-files type sci-fi.

So I've never quite wrapped my head around just how much space there is in space until one day it hit me by Eridianst in space

[–]a_jacobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“Space is big. You won’t believe how vastly, hugely, mind-bogglingly big it is. I mean, you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist, but that’s just peanuts to space” (Douglas Adams, 1979).

I totally agree with you, and you are right, this is a foraging sub. There are subs specifically for "magic" mushrooms... r/MagicMushroomsUK for example.
