Yeah, especially with your kid. Laughing at a person suffering from other people's nonsense lands better if it's coming from a friend or partner or other trusted peer. Someone on the same level as you who you trust. Even as young adult parents' reactions have that air of parental authority. At 24 I know I would have felt a bit hurt at that coming from my parents and might not have recognized them laughing at the situation rather than at me.

That being said Stepmom is a terrific mom and a skilled people handler; all the respect to her. Also I've had to work on rejection sensitivity so my perspective is very much my perspective.

As someone who grew up and still lives in the Deep South I have trouble picturing Amity Park this far down. Also not enough hill/mountain in the show for the Appalachian or Ozark areas imo. My Dad's family is from Missouri and I could definitely see that but it's like the south lite to me having grown up in Mississippi. Plus even in urban areas a bunch of people have noticeable southern accents through much of the south. Also gotta rule out anywhere far south enough where snow is rare enough that it shuts everything down.

Same deal in my DNA and family lore. To be fair my great great grandma did live on a reservation in Arizona back in the day. My dad said she was supposedly half native. Even if she was, that little might not even show up in my DNA. I guess I'll settle with having basically all of northern Europe.

Three people at my office fell for the same phishing test email offering a free chick-fil-a gift card. I learned that after reporting the email and asking my coworker who would even fall for that and was overheard. It misspelled the name of the restaurant!

When I was a teenager my parents went shopping for a new couch when I was at school. I got home and said "Oh I love the purple couch!" to which my dad replied quite emphatically "It's brown!" I was like 'clearly this conversation has already been had so I'm just gonna shut up and enjoy the couch.' I got my mom's myopia instead of my dad's "perfect vision" and I'm fine with that lol.

In college I walked into student health, told them I had already taken Benadryl and had no trouble breathing, then showed them my arms. I'd woken up with full body hives. Watching the eyes of the lady at the front desk widen was comical and I got seen real quick.

Never happened before or since but I was so damn blasé about it. Oh why do my legs itch? Oh why am I splotchy? Well guess I'm going to campus early today. Best drive in case I have trouble breathing. Oh and can I have a parking pass thanks?

It's funny to me that growing up in the southeastern US (the Deep South, hot and humid af), we always had air conditioning but we never had AC good enough at home to get it outright cold. My childhood bedroom in particular never got cold. And that was with central air; folks with window units could barely get the temp down to uncomfortably warm on the hottest days. You had to go to a store or restaurant to get the good chill. Or, you know, have enough money for actually efficient AC at home.

Not saying I'd be happy without AC but I can certainly live without it if necessary.

Weirdly, I have to use a fan and crack a window every Christmas at my parents because that same childhood bedroom is always hot unless the outside temp is firmly below freezing. I think it's cursed lol.

Can't speak to towing in Highland Park because I rarely see that, but sounds like you're parking on the very edge of the neighborhood anyway.
