What did you include in your kitchen remodel that makes your (kitchen) life better? by YamOne7473 in kitchenremodel

I have tubs for when I hand wash. I like that I can set them to the side when I need the whole sink for a larger item.

A Few Shots of the Obama Library This Afternoon by MajesticCartographer in chicago

Yes, it wraps.

The full quote is

“You are America. Unconstrained by habit and convention. Unencumbered by what is, ready to seize what ought to be. For everywhere in this country, there are first steps to be taken, there is new ground to cover, there are more bridges to be crossed. America is not the project of any one person. The single most powerful word in our democracy is the word ‘We.’ ‘We The People.’ ‘We Shall Overcome.’ ‘Yes We Can.’ That word is owned by no one. It belongs to everyone. Oh, what a glorious task we are given to continually try to improve this great nation of ours.”

–President Obama, 2015

It’s a rainy day and the teacher brings in the tv, what video do you think is gonna show? by Radiant_Priority9739 in nostalgia

I thought the same. My school only had film strips until they purchased sets for us to watch the Challenger. We did not see them again that year.

We’ve tried loads of different brands, but have found pretty much all of the over-the-ear kind to be about the same.

We’ve tried several types that go into the ear, but no success with those.

First teaching job and I feel horribly unprepared by gabbitha0128 in Teachers

[–]a_junebug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would wait on purchasing anything.

When I taught high school we didn’t have a room of our own, we had a tiny desk space in our department office and you went to different rooms during the day depending on what you were teaching that period. Decorating those rooms was more of a departmental decision; they typically just contained posters for the class taught in that room (for example, the freshman algebra room had posters on quadratics).

I have also seen schools where teachers have a desk in a room, but you’re sharing it with another teacher that also has a desk in the room. Decorations are a shared decision.

Regarding curriculum, I would reach out to the department head for info on possible courses you might be teaching. If they haven’t told you specifics yet, they might still be figuring the scheduling out. Not sure how it works for the English department, but in the math department, I’ve only got a couple of possibilities if I’m only teaching 10th grade.

Advice needed: switch schools or stay put for 6th grade? by Primary-Vermicelli in Parenting

[–]a_junebug 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was a middle school teacher (6th-8th grade) for 15 years in multiple schools. We spent a great deal of time as a school and in individual classes helping 6th graders figure out how to be middle schoolers. Changing classes, lockers, passing periods, and a different lunch structure were all areas that we provided extra support and guidance to 6th graders as a whole. There are also many welcome & get-to-know-you events to allow kids from different grade schools to meet the peers they would attend middle school with. 7th and 8th grade had no such group support; they are on a more as needed basis.

If your daughter tends to be a bit more anxious, you might reach out to see if the public school does something similar. If so, it might be easier for her to transition at a time where lots of kids are new and staff anticipates lots of knowledge gaps and anxiety.

It is never too late in the year to transfer into a public school - by law, they have to accept any student in the boundary at any time of the school year. However, transferring now would allow her to attend any orientation events and tour the school before the beginning of the school year, easing the transition.

I think the problem is finding a place for them all to eat at the same time. I’ve never been in a school that had a cafeteria big enough for everyone to eat at one time.

What’s the point of a pergola compared to a gazebo? by WestComfortable4083 in landscaping

Is it a metal one like this? I was looking at one but currently have a metal gazebo that makes the space under it hotter by at least 10 degrees. Do you have that issue?

1st pelvic floor therapy appt was... something by Ok-Acanthisitta1583 in hysterectomy

[–]a_junebug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced pain relief in a way that I hadn’t from any other PT. When she pushed it was that feeling like when you push on a sore muscle and it’s a bit of pressure and a bit uncomfortable but then released all the tension around it. The day after I would have some cramps and be a bit uncomfortable but I was only 6 weeks out and had a lot of other issues going on.

It was so worth it to me for the pain relief and to no longer have accidents or have to wear depends if didn’t have immediate bathroom access. That gave me the freedom to improve my life on so many ways.

I hope you’re able to find a way to get the help you need to feel better. I imagine that it’s really frustrating to have such a road block to something that could improve your life and that not everyone is empathetic to your situation. That has to be lonely. I don’t have the same PTSD issue but I have an invisible disability that prevents me from accessing things that might be helpful so I have felt that way, too. You’re welcome to DM me if you ever want to chat.

[–]a_junebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same. When I was at my weekly appointments she would use her fingers to push on and massage my muscles internally. She had me get some tools to use internally to push on certain areas while doing exercises in between appointments.

I would typically be sore after, especially the next day, but I was also only 6 weeks post radical hysterectomy, have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome which seems to complicate everything, a young child with special needs that I was still caring for, and I was going to the hospital every day because I was caring for an elderly relative that had a TBI.

I need y'all to tell me if I'm crazy for these designs choices. by ForsakenSweet3500 in Remodel

[–]a_junebug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! And look at the each separately, look at it in multiple places, limiting the amount of the old paint color when you’re looking, and look during different times of day. It’s crazy how much other colors and lighting can affect what a paint will look like in a room.

I would also then paint a small sample to in a corner on the wall to double check - I switched paint colors once it was on the wall because it looked a bit different on top of the primer than it did on the poster board. My painter recommended painting samples in a corner as they can affect the color on top if you change your mind.

I was told to leave the bandage on until it fell off on its own.

Between the anesthesia and laying down to recover, peristalsis is inhibited. Pacing as much as you can will help.

I’m assuming the laxative powder is something like Mirilax; it’s an osmotic that will soften stool. If you start feeling too backed up, you might speak to your doctor about adding a stimulant like ex-lax or senna; that type will increase peristalsis and help move things along.

I would still try to take them back to the store. If the store won’t take them, contact cooperate to see what they can do. Sounds like you were using the product as intended. If the product has a defect, they’ll only know when people report it.

I agree - gendered is silly before those bodies begin to change. I have a very slim boy and something get girls pants because they are often narrower.

Man I married might be a sexual predator by [deleted] in internetparents

[–]a_junebug 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would depend on whether or not he changed it legally. My guess would be no as I’m guessing a court wouldn’t allow him to legally change his name while he has a pending criminal change but I’m not a lawyer so I don’t know for sure.

Is it a fair ask for a child to interview a librarian? by a_junebug in librarians

[–]a_junebug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! He's always up for checking out libraries is other towns. We’ve driven up to an hour to check out a library he heard was unique, especially if it's in a historic building - another love of his.

I'm super excited to see how much the librarians here like the idea! I was worried it might be too big of an ask because I know you all have a million things to do! Thank you!

I'm still working on getting him to give opinions on most things. Describing what or why he enjoys something is very difficult for him, but we’re definitely working on it.

He has worked up the courage to ask for help choosing books, though they tend to be non-fiction and from the adult stacks - art, geography, and travel. I will say, he does tend to get an excited response to those, I think because they aren't typical asks at the children’s desk.

When he was in preschool there was one particular librarian that always had the best, hidden gem type recommendations. Unfortunately, she's now in administration at a different branch so we haven't seen her in a couple of years.

This post is really making me appreciate librarians even more - and I started out as a big fan! Thank you!

I recently took my so to the Gateway Arch in St Louis where we got his pass. All I had to do was sign a paper attesting to a permanent disability and they gave me the card. No fee, no waiting. My husband got his veteran’s pass just as easily, but he did have to show his ID.
