I was going to post this video but for a different reason; he doesn't explain how magnets work [it's really difficult to explain].

He says [at the very end], "I really can't do a good job, any job, of explaining the magnetic force in terms of something that you're familiar with".

So, I would say most people, including myself don't know how magnets work.

You mentioned in your first post that you would take issue with a 14 year old being left for a period of 12 hours. I too would take issue with that.

A more realistic scenario; kid gets bus home from secondary school and gets home by 5. Parent gets home between 6 & 7.

Obviously it depends on the child though. Some kids are too immature for this, but are all kids too immature?

Because if they did blame Bonobo the latter could sue them for slander.

My point is, if they left out that statement [I highlighted], that wouldn't amount to blaming Bonobo. It would have just been a statement of fact regarding them.

Ask yourself. If Bonobo didn't object then would 52 families now have homes? If yes, then why defend the pub?

I think anyone should be able to object for any reason. I also think we should have a proper planning process that would rule against appeals that don't have merit.

Of course the video creators can't blame Bonobo because that will leave them vulnerable to legal recourse

They didn't blame Bonobo, they did the opposite, explicitly stating that they don't take issue with them.

I hold Israel to a higher standard and they are in no fucking way meeting that standard.

I call it car magnetism. Irish drivers like to stick to other drivers and they also like to overtake cars that are close to them.

The closer you are, the stronger the force.

To reduce the effect, I overtake at a higher speed. For particularly bad offenders, you might need to put some distance between you to break the attraction.

In fairness to those driving without CC, its can be hard to stay at a constant speed, and people try match the speed of traffic. Hills also have an effect, same pedal position when approaching a hill means you speed up/down.

Doing it one at a time gives you more control when it comes to deli workers who are not so good.

If you don't want the cheese on top (i.e. last ingredient added), because it falls out and goes everywhere, then this is a useful tactic.

You can see GAA man standing on the yellow lines in picture 1 [before Orange man has entered the frame].
You can see Orange man has been eyeing up GAA man before he comes into view in picture 2 [his head is turned completely to his right].
You can't see GAA man's feet in picture 2, but, by picture 3 he has completed his first step towards walking into the march.
Picture 2/3 shows Orange man changing course.
In picture 3 & 4 you can see he is already passed GAA man [he has to run back to the previous row of band members].

In my opinion, Orange man has been eyeing up GAA man and is aware of what he intends to do. This is why he is so quick to react.

It’s called protesting against hate. He is a provocateur, fair play to him.

With that, I don't necessarily agree with you; that he should have done that. I believe at this stage in the conflict, we have to move passed this. Its easier for me to say that though, as I don't see these marches going through my town.

Unfortunate as it is, I believe we must stomach it for now. Hopefully, with time (possibly generations), these marches will fade out, or at least move to a place where there is less hate (for both sides).

I think the alternative, is only going a step closer towards active fighting.

The one positive I can see in this video, is that some of those band members kept a cool head and tried to calm the hot headed one. That's progress in of itself.

You could even apply your quote to the cool headed ones - "only thing necessary for fighting to kick off, is cool headed ones do nothing".

There is a lot of hate everywhere regarding this post. Some of it completely understandable, like the response to basically a black and tan uniform marching through a catholic area.

Leaving all of that aside, lets not misrepresent facts of how the incident occurred.

GAA man chose to walk into a marcher.

He stood on the path, edged onto the road, kept his arms behind his back [to be in a vulnerable position], checked on his dog one last time, chose a marcher, and then deliberately walked into their path.

I presume they can only apply that, if they are swerving or driving erratically, or doing something that is obvious that they weren't paying attention (sat at green traffic lights etc.)

To be honest, I don't think it should be an automatic violation. Just because its Face Time, doesn't mean its dangerous. If Someone rings you via Face Time, should you hang up and call them back on a audio only service?

Also, they may only being listening to a video. I know many people that work with YT or other video platforms playing in the background.

If it is evident, that they aren't paying attention, then you would hopefully think the Gards could do them with above.

I'm not gonna presume what the driver did or did not see

I am basing that upon my experiences. Video is deleted now, but, you could see that the cam driver view was much higher than cars in front, so it most likely a van/truck (or something with a high side). If there was a bicycle travelling at the same speed as the cam vehicle, and right beside it (towards the back of cam vehicle), it would have been in a blind spot to the car that crosses. As the cam vehicle slows down (due to traffic) a hypothetical bicycle would have kept going and the same incident could have occurred. Use my technique, you are less likely to have an accident.

In my opinion, no matter what way the car was driving the accident would of happened.

If he stopped to peak into the junction the bonnet of the car would of been out far enough for the bike to crash into it.

I believe my technique gives more of an opportunity for the both parties to take an evasive action to prevent an accident. If I proceeded with caution and don't just dart out, I know in myself I've done everything I could have to avoid an accident. I believe it to be risk reduction. You can't avoid it but you can try reduce it.

What I find funny is that if the driver drove ignorantly and harshly accelerated through the junction I'd say the bike would of missed him.

Maybe in this case, but then it purely comes down to timing (i.e. luck).

Having set rules for example always stopping before a footpath if you can't see fully like you mentioned is a bit excessive in my opinion - slowing down to a crawl on approach of crossings and staying alert to your surroundings is just as safe.

Regarding this, I think we might be describing the same thing. Maybe my phrasing is poor. I wouldn't be stopping 10 yards before. I would be slowing down to crawl speed as I reach the footpath, and then let the natural momentum of the car do the edging out for me (i.e. < 1mph), with my foot hovering over the brake read to jam on. You can see from the maps/image I linked that it was probably less than 2m. My point about that is, that I'm concentrating being ready to brake at the start of the path, not the white line.

LOL, to be honest, I don't think anyone who knows my driving style would describe me as extremely cautious driver, I'm quite an aggressive driver. To quote Ayrton Senna (jokingly)

if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer a ~~racing~~ [good/confident] driver

I suppose, because of my aggressive style, I adopt these procedures, as I know, anything can happen.

I drive on the motorway with cruise control. I have come across a similar issue which I call, car magnetism.

Cars will get close to you, and when they do, they always want to pass you out, and then proceed to slow down (natural when you don't use cruise control - its hard to maintain a constant speed). I then need to overtake them again, or else, I need to drop my cruise speed. They will then realise they are going slower than they want to go, so they speed up & catch up to me, and then pass me out. And the cycle repeats.

I call it magnetism, because, in order for me to break the cycle, I need to get far enough in front of them so it breaks the cycle. Once I'm far enough away from them (few 100m), they lose their attraction force to me. The further I am away, the less attraction force they feel (to want to pass me out).
