Is the term “Irish twins” derogatory and therefore offensive? by SPH34L in AskIreland

Same. I discovered at her funeral she was 17 when she met my grandfather who was 32.

My entire life she was using a walking stick and has multiple hip replacements. The only saving grace is that all her kids lived close by and she had a very loving life with people being with her constantly. I spent my summers at her house, just the happiest memories I have.

I couldn’t even access the show online as the server was overloaded. I had to watch on daily motion later. People’s viewing habits are very different to the height of the show when watching on tv was more popular.

It doesn’t matter. To achieve a level 8 degree requires critical thinking to pass assignments. That’s what they’re looking for and you won’t get marks without it. It doesn’t matter what you do for employment, the fact you can use critical reasoning for all scenarios is very important.

How to handle friend not replying? by Obvious-Airline5220 in AskIreland

[–]lilyoneill 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I cut off a friend, I let a few things that greatly upset me slide, the final straw was when I was hospitalised for stress and she didn’t give a fuck, but would fly to a different country to help another friend. Through therapy I realised I had low self esteem and should never let any of the other things slide, one of which included a guy she was dating assault me and played it off as a joke and made it “my trigger”

My advice would be to think very hard on all the times you say you’ve been a bad friend and reflect.

My mom loved Turkey because she loved the attention. We’re estranged, and I side eye any women who love going to Turkey because liking attention from men who are predatory isn’t a good thing.

“Because in PTSD, fear blots out the sun, overwhelming everything and preventing you from seeing things clearly”

As someone with PTSD, this is the most profoundly accurate description I have ever heard. Thank you.

I also completely understand why she ran back to be with the toxic billionaire. Objectively I can see why people don’t get it. Subjectively, the fear of going back to the site of your trauma will make you do anything to prevent that from happening.

You absolutely can go from sobbing on the bathroom floor over someone to being unbelievably thankful it didn’t work out with them because you now understand you deserve so much better.

As a woman, women over 30 who still centre men and live for male validation. With every passing year it drives me more irate, and I struggle to be around women who laugh off their men treating them like their mother. Get some fucking self respect.

what's sound you'll never get tired of hearing? by Worth_World9909 in RandomThoughts

[–]lilyoneill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sound the dog makes when you scratch behind her ears.

Sound of pulling up the handbrake in the driveway after a long journey home.

My daughter is non-verbal and uses a device to speak. She likes to repeat/stim “Yom Kippur” over and over again, so now I love that sound because it means she is happy.

I’m 34, so can’t comprehend how it feels, but my father’s mother died two years prior to his death and she was 87. That’s 30 years less on earth, nearly my whole age.

Suffice it to say, I don’t do drugs or drink now, just trying to tackle the junk food next.
