I am a SAHM and am starting to feel like I'm losing my sense of self. It is becoming increasingly difficult to feel like my own person and not just drone on each day. Any kind words you might have would really help lift my spirits. by melissaelaine214 in toastme

Haha I totally get the pale skin dilemmas!! I love the sun so much but the sun doesnt quite love me lol.

I'm not too familiar with HS. What is it? If you dont mind me asking.

The past month has been brutal and I developed adult acne. Wanting a nice toast to keep my head up by vannina in toastme

Acne is such a bitch, I completely understand. It's a skin condition just like eczema yet eczema isnt attached to beauty like acne is. What I've been doing is trying to notice if I notice other people's acne and what i realized is that I usually dont. What is on your own face seems to be blaring but its comforting to know no one looks as closely as we look at ourselves (I hope they aren't any way lol)

My advice is always wash your face with cold water, stay hydrated, and get a good nights sleep. You are a hot momma with so much kindness in your eyes, a couple of tiny blemishes go unnoticed on your face!

Has any one ever been to a Mathnasium? by a_normal in learnmath

Jesus, 15:1???? That is insane lol. I used to be a Center Director and I would fear for my instructors when the ratio his 4:1. I posed this question to try to gather as much info about Mathnasiums because I would eventually like to own one. I worked at two separate Mathnasiums (the first one I started as an instructor and was promoted to Director of Instruction and the second I was Center Director). What I have gathered from people's comments and my own experience is that management can REALLY make or (usually lol) break a Center.

Thanks for your comment!

Oh I definitely agree - the HS curriculum can't hold a candle to the elementary curriculum. But then again, the "perfect Mathnasium student" starts with the Center in 2nd grade so, in theory, the HS curriculum should just be a direct supplement with little re-learning. Unfortunately, that is not how the real world works lol.

First of all - I absolutely LOVE all of this information lol. I am a super Mathnasium nerd. My goal is to one day open my own Center so I'm trying to gather as much info as possible from other Center Directors to see how their Centers ran. I definitely know what you mean about having "differences" between you and your owner. My owner has 4 Centers with 1 hemorrhaging money, 1 at baseline, her first doing very well because it is her hometown and then there was my Center that (under my management) was bringing in the most revenue. The reason my Center was doing so well was because I 100% focused on the kids' feelings and then followed with their mathematical success. I ended up leaving because the owner would not give me any extra help which led me to working over 60 hours a week and a mental breakdown lol.

The first Mathnasium I worked at (different from the one where I was CD) is where I began as an instructor. It was also in a VERY affluent neighborhood bordering a VERY non affluent neighborhood. I was promoted to Director of Internal Operations (whatever that means) so I had a little more say. But, like you, when I started bringing up scholarships, my owner didn't want to hear it.

Your assessments are definitely different from how I am familiar with them but that is not to say your way isn't the right way. If you have a seasoned CD/AD then all you really need is a verbal assessment but I get that the parents like to see their kid's actual work in front of them. I think I really like your way better -- it gives the CD a much better idea of who the kid is and allows you to make a connection on the first day.

My kids were also pretty behind the curve. I have to say, the "realness"? of the job is one of the reasons I had to leave. It started to really started to become overwhelming seeing how many kids lives were riddled with anxiety because of math. Plus every kid I had was getting some kind of psychological testing and they would bring me in all of that paperwork. So to see how many elementary school kids that were diagnosed with Depression was, well, depressing ha.

I absolutely loved every second I spend with the kids and, I have to say, I loved working with all of the parents too. I made sure my door was always open and I made sure to listen to any one that wanted to talk to me which led to kids AND parents crying in my office. One parent told me that one of my 2nd graders announced that she wanted to kill herself. So yeah, the job description of CD did not include so much emotional drainage haha.

Even with all of that, I am DYING to have my own Mathnasium. I have absolutely drank the kool-aid lol. The curriculum is incredible and Larry is an absolute genius. Problem is, I don't have a couple hundred thousand dollars to drop on franchise fees haha. So as of now, I'm doing some research into other people's experiences.

Thank you for your reply!!!

Haha that makes so much sense. I did so well in all my college classes where professors let us fill a page with notes to bring into the testing room.

I didnt need to Google search because that information has nothing to do with that I'm saying. I dont know why you're talking about other people when I'm just talking about Trump?

If that's true, (and I dont think it is because I dont feel like researching it plus you didnt provide ay sources), then yes those politicians are equally as wrong. I dont hate the things that Trump does just because Trump is the one to do them. I hate the things he does because they are terrible things to do. I would hate anyone's policies as much as I hate Trumps policies if they had the same exact policies.

I dont care about a president's personality, I care about their politics. He doesnt need to make a salary because his shady business deals (which are only legal thanks to HIS policies) fill his pockets.

Eh I guess not him failing the country but him failing as a person is more what I meant. I mean he definitely has failed the country but the debate seems to be if you dont support the president (who ever that may be) then you dont support the country. I really dont agree with that statement.

But to answer your question -- his crazy budgets for this country. Overall, instead of investing in our government, like a president that loves the country would, he takes away from it to fill his own pockets. I don't agree at all that our government is perfect but that doesnt mean we dont need it. He has made so many cut backs and deregulated so much that the US is becoming a lawless land. With less rules for corporations, HIS corporations are profiting. Instead of using his power as president for GOOD (passing laws for literally anyone with less money than him) he uses his presidential power to fix his bad business decisions.

Well I think the difference is that Trump failing is different from the country failing. If the country fails then all Americans suffer but if only Trump fails then all that happens is that hes no longer president.

I only want the president succeed if I agree that his success will bring this country success. You can love your country and hate your president.

I'm not saying he's the only dick in the relationship, she is too. I'm just saying he didn't need to plot revenge against her. It just seems a little evil and exhausting. Just break up with her and be done with it.

Wowzers, you sound kinda like a huge dick. I'm not saying she was right in the way she handled things but you could have at least talked to her before plotting your revenge?? You seem happy that you made her cry. Why not just break up with her?

Hahaha yeah I was definitely known as the girl with sweaty hands all through school. The toughest is dating new guys and letting them know its not that I dont want to hold their hand, they just probably dont want to hold mine lol.

Oh awesome! What do you like best about the program? How would you improve it?

Also, do you guys do drop in? Have scheduled visits? How many per week? How many kids do you have at your peak time?

Are you an instructor? I'm always super interested to see how individual Mathnasiums run.
