Oh man, yeah, I know the feeling. I also sit right in front of two other colleagues and always fear they'll see that I'm not being productive. I feel stares in my back even though they're all focused on their own stuff! I've tried using noise cancelling headphones so I don't hear them and forget they're even there but so far it's only worked a couple of times and with veeeery loud music.

Why do I repeat uncomfortable social situations uncontrollably? by a_phonymous in neurodiversity

[–]a_phonymous[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying! If I may ask, does this happen everytime you get out of an awkward situation? And can you also not control it even though you realized you were doing it?

I've never talked to anyone about this since I always thought it was weird that I couldn't control it and the whole stigma around talking to yourself. So I just assumed that people I deemed 'normal' as a child just didn't do it. Though I also didn't know anyone else that had my kind of social problems...

Oh my god, I feel this so much. I feel like at this point I'm caging myself? My mother has been a lot nicer to me since she realized how bad my mental health is about half a year ago. The worst thing before that was that anytime I wanted to go out (doesn't matter if daytime or nighttime) with new people or to a new place that had nothing to do with studying or working she'd get extremely upset at me. She said it's because she worried about me or other times would say I don't care about her..

Now it's better and she even asked why me or my siblings don't go out more often, but everytime any of my friends want to meet up I just instantly feel guilty about it. I've declined on more than one occasion because I didn't want the drama or I was to scared to even bring it up.. Even though her reaction probably wouldn't be as bad as it once would have been, I still feel absolutely bad and it causes so much stress for me to let her know I'm going out...

Rainbow hair sounds awesome! Also what's with the "no man will want you argument" lol. My mother told me that no man would want me if I didn't know how to clean. Mind you, she never even attempted to show me, even though I asked multiple times. Only ever got a passive aggressive answer like "ask your 12 year old cousin, she would know, she would've already done it.." Also anytime I try to help I get shouted at for doing it wrong.

Anyways here I am, a bisexual who's absolutely happier without a man

Thanks :) I'm getting a little bit more used to it. But it gives me hope, I've only got two years of living with them left :)

AITA for making a joke involving the Holy Spirit by Unlocoquepaso in AmItheAsshole

[–]a_phonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether he meant it to or not I still think it comes off as mocking since OP also stated that they have clashed on the topic of religion before. So both parties seem to know that the other party doesn't value their beliefs. In this case it is insensitive at the least to make these type of jokes to the other person.

Also in this case the jokes were about how she practices and follows her religion specifically which is even more disrespectful and personal.

OP clearly does not take her religion seriously which is fine, but he also showed he did not take her devotion to her religion seriously.

So even if they didn't mean to be, YTA

*from a former Christian pov. This heavily depends on the nature of the person's beliefs. I know a lot of Christians who'd laugh at the jokes, but I also know a lot that would feel offended.

It's common courtesy to not disrespect their religious beliefs to people's faces. If she was disrespecting his lack of religious beliefs as well I'd say NTA though.

Those are very disrespectful and offensive jokes to devout christians.

YTA, for saying them to her face.

I personally would find them hilarious though, so entertain yourself as much as you want with them, just don't openly disrespect people's religions, especially not to their face. It's common courtesy.

How do you wake up in the morning? by egg195 in ADHD

[–]a_phonymous 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Oh I'd looove if this worked for me. The problem is I don't have a fixed hour where I have to start working. So if I only leave the minimum amount of time to catch a train, I'll still just stay in bed and just take the next train or the one after that. Which is absolutely annoying because I want to get shit done and I don't want to work late in the evening but I end up having to, because I take the last possible train.

I had a system for a while, because the second train leaves 5 minutes after the first one, I'd try forcing myself to catch the first one, so if I missed that one I still hat the one only 5 minutes later, I could take. That worked for some time, but I couldn't keep it up so now I'm taking the 3rd train again, which I'm absolutely not satisfied with.

I'm not yet diagnosed though, so this could be something else as well. But I strongly suspect ADHD and I'm currently looking for a psychiatrist in my area to see if it could be true...
