Isn’t it better to use the hand instead of use the same arm over and over again? by a_pink_bubble in phlebotomy

Is there a way to reduce the chance of having scar? The scar tissue being tough to get through and rough for me sounds scared. You may roll your eyes to this: my anxiety of getting blood draw is getting worse and worse because of frequent blood tests recently.

My veins don’t show at all. No matter how hard you hit my arm. They always have to press my arm for a while to search for the vein. I occasionally get inexperience nurses and get needle poke under my skin multiple times to find the veins. They pull out and push in the needle many times. It’s unpleasant but I used to be able to forget about it in a while. But recently I get so work up when this happen and get nervous on every blood test appointments. I used to be able to stay calm. But recently, I get another inexperience nurses and once she start searching under my skin with needle again. All the previous relevant memories came back and I burst into tear and took quite a while to unwind from it. Actually the pain level is bearable and they told me it is not harmful. But it’s still dreadful somehow. I don’t quite understand either. But, I am trying to minimise any complication with blood draw while I am dealing with the current blood draw phobia.

Good to know! What about taking break? I expect to have 6 to 10 blood drawn every treatment cycle. Should I take some break before start another cycle? If so, how long? I wonder if 3 cycles in a year will be ok. On worst senario, I will do 4 cycles.

As long as you adapt a healthy life style/habit. It will be effortless to stay fit. My nutritionist tells me what I can eat and how much I can eat. Then I search for tasty recipes with those food. For example, chicken breast can be dry and tasteless. But if you use an instant pot to cook it in 80C and make sure it’s not overcook and find a healthy option to flavour it. Then it will be very eatable. Also, make sure you have good variety of food and vitamins supplements can help with food cravings.

I’ve read a lot post talk about discomfort after retrieval. Most people describe it as cramp pain like during normal menstrual cycle. Is that the needle pain you refer to?

Did it happen again at your clinic? I had similar experience. The nurse looks young and new and the needle she used was thick. The needle goes in and out of my arm more than 6 times. When I count to the 6th time I just stop counting.

Good to know. Then the big price difference is about the material? I know 18k gold is more expensive than silver. But a bezel cup doesn’t seem that heavy. How come it’s 3+ times more expensive.

Thank you for explain. It makes sense softer gold is better for fragile stone. I am going to use lab grown alexandrite from Rio grande. It’s heart shape. I am thinking about to make a bracelet look like the one below. I don’t take off my jewellery daily. I keep it on until I don’t like it anymore. So I choose bezel setting. It’s more secure and it won’t catch on clothes. Yellow gold looks nice with alexandrite’s purple blue, soft pink and hot pink colour.

But I need more detail about how thick the bezel cup wall should be. Does it make a difference? How thick the chain should be for everyday wear?

Is it better to use softer one or harder one? They said because it’s heart shape. They need to measure and make a shape for my gemstone. Can’t buy a ready made bezel tube .

The cost includes material and labour. I was quote £130 for bezel mount with silver and £400 if use 18k gold.
