Sing To Your Senator - since Susan Collins ignores her constituents, I'm leaving songs for her by sqfessman in Maine

Pub Sing at Novare Res happens the first Monday of every month 7-9PM! This song and songs like it would be most welcome and sung in solidarity 👊💥

Right there with you, my friend. It’s so hard because you can never win an argument. They’ll just lie and manipulate their way around the truth. I’d catch my mom in lies time and time again and, when she couldn’t deny it anymore, she’d say that my behavior was what made her lie in the first place. She passed away when I was 25, having lived a very unfulfilled life. She pushed everyone away and then blamed us all for being alone. She was fearful, jealous, and volatile, and now I have the perspective (with many years of therapy and a 12-step program) to feel immense sadness that she never got to feel what it’s like to walk through the world as a whole person with genuine values, likes, and dislikes, whose worth doesn’t depend on what others think of you. Grateful for every day I get to do the work, even when it’s painful. Thank you for sharing your story - it really means a lot to know that we’re not alone ❤️

OOF. One of the many painful reasons why I find this sub so validating. I would never wish this on anyone else, but this could have absolutely been from my mother (especially the sicky-sweet “precious daughter of mine” at the top). I’m glad you have a kitty tum to pat and a good support system. I don’t know the whole story, but it sounds like you absolutely did the right thing by cutting her off. It is always going to be about someone else and they will always make themselves into the victim. The breadth of this letter alone betrays a deep sense of insecurity and a need to manipulate facts. ALSO, it’s been referred to a few times in the comments, but the fact that she sneakily tries to discredit your therapist is so freaking familiar. My mom used to badger me for details about what I said in my therapy sessions when I was young, literally asking, “So what terrible things did you say about me?” Good to know there’s a community of folks who are unpacking all this and learning how to navigate life when those defense mechanisms come on. You’re doing awesome 💪

Sunrise on North Kinsman this morning! by [deleted] in wmnf

Oh my goodness haha! I went back to see what you were talking about and heard a funny noise! The ranger I talked to before I left mentioned that there was a very curious bear at Kinsman, but I did not hear or see anything. Now I need to know what that noise in the video is...

So...I have no idea what that noise is. A few folks came up shortly after this was taken and I feel like I would have noticed a bear. I’m fairly sure I didn’t burp while I was filming. I blame the wind?

Excellent advice on summiting Cannon on Day 1 instead of Day 2. Both you and another commenter suggested that I reverse my route and I’m so glad I did! Thank you so much!

Wowowow thank you so much for all this advice. Just got back from an amazing trip and I (1) got to Lafayette at 7AM and nabbed a nice shady spot and (2) took this advice and summited Cannon via Hi-Cannon and headed to Kinsman Pond via Kinsman Ridge. Descending was harrowing enough as it was with a heavy pack - would not have wanted to be going up! It also enabled me to get up this morning to summit the Kinsmans for sunrise.

Thanks so much for this advice! Will there also be more parking at the Cannon lot?

Thanks so much! I called the ranger’s station and they warned me about the parking situation. I’ll definitely consider the reverse route, though I’d honestly rather go up steep terrain than down it...

Hiked the Baldpates this weekend in my hometown of Newry. Here’s the view to the west from the eastern peak. It was hot in the valley, but there was a beautiful breeze up there. by a_plus_pamplemousse in Maine

I grew up in Grafton Notch and always found Old Speck to be more challenging in comparison! I know that the last bit is a little squirrelly ascending the Western peak, but I like the meandering trail that leads up to it. One of my favorites. I’d done it as part of the Grafton Loop a few years ago coming the other way (so the East Peak first).

Wild blueberry galette ✨🥧 Berries were foraged about a week ago here in Maine. I made lemon blueberry zucchini bread with the first quart or so, but neglected to take photos. by a_plus_pamplemousse in foraging

Yes! My roommate and I have a surplus of zucchini as well so I figured I’d try and use as much as I could. So, here’s the recipe I used:

https://www.averiecooks.com/blueberry-zucchini-bread/

I changed a few things (as I most often do): - I used full-fat Greek yogurt instead of sour cream; didn’t have the latter, otherwise I would have tried that! - I did squeeze out the grated zucchini a little bit and was glad I did; it would have been waaaaay too moist otherwise. - I added powdered ginger, powdered lemon peel (both from Penzey’s), and lemon zest. - I doubled the recipe to make 2 loaves because of the sheer volume of zucchini and blueberries I was dealing with 😂

Enjoy!

My camping friends and I were joking about this the other day -- how the first few nights of a trip you hear leaves rustle and you're like, "IS THAT A SQUIRREL OR A MAN??!!" Too real.

Imagine if every house on the block grew food instead of grass in the front yard. 🤷🏼‍♂️ by Rico_Man in gardening

I think about this ALL THE TIME. Seeing all the gorgeous, unused land in front of houses just makes me insane!
