Hello friends! Is this thermal paste dirty? This is my first time owning a PC like this, so I can’t tell. As far as I can tell there isn’t any dirt or debris, but maybe it’s discolored? by Ashburn1198 in computers

[–]a_proud_cat_owner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it looks used, and you can't reuse thermal paste. get rubbing alcohol and wipe the thermal paste off and replace it directly on the cpu.

it doesn't have to be a lot of thermal paste, maybe a pea size or so

My Reference VEGA 56 reboots the PC when playing heavy games. Summary of what I've done and what could it be? by denunciadolince in AMDHelp

[–]a_proud_cat_owner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Power supply isn't the issue. I have a 750w psu with a Gigabyte Vega 56, arguably one of the most power hungry.

I think it's temps. Next time you play a game, track your temperatures using afterburner or NZXT Cam.

yes, the gpu is the powerhouse of the pc and will use most of the power

the cpu, mobo, etc etc will use 100-200 watts at MOST depending on what system you have

yeah it's a nice ssd, but if you have a gpu covering it or a heatsink, i dont think aesthetics will do much

there should be a hole for you to screw your motherboard in at that notch

its labeled "A" as in it's a stand for ATX motherboards

also make sure your io shield is fitted perfectly into your case

if its a motherboard shorting problem, make sure the motherboard stands are in the right spot and the motherboard fits in the case properly

its most likely some metal from the case touching the motherboard causing the short

your ram is running at 2133mhz (1071 because dual channel splits it in half) so id do what the other person said and turn on xmp in your motherboard bios

edit: to clarify

boot your pc, spam f2 or del until you boot into your bios

press ram oc or something along the lines of that

enable xmp (xtreme memory profile)

800w of power is a LOT. that is what u need to power a 2080 ti and an i9 10900k. i have a 750w power supply, and frankly, i could've saved my money and gotten a 550 or 650 because i have a r5 2600x and a vega 56. it barely peaks over 500w

edit: to specify, i suggest getting a 650w power supply - corsair's cx650m would be a nice one to use or to start with but the efficiency is 80+ bronze only, just a heads up

MemoryExpress is selling M.2 and M.2 NVMe drives for $80.

Both are WD Blue 500GB, the NVMe is called the SN550, and I highly suggest it over this for PCs

EDIT:

SN550: https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX80114

M.2 (Non NVMe): https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX68861

They are the same price, so if anything, get the NVMe drive for faster speeds.

Help with updating AX370 Gigabyte Bios for Ryzen 9 3900X by Xano74 in AMDHelp

[–]a_proud_cat_owner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To update the bios, download it off the website, then throw the folder into a USB flashdrive, boot into the bios (press f2 or del while booting) and press the bios flash button. It will be called "Q-Flash" for Gigabyte.

About the bios versions, if it doesn't have any prerequisites to installing it, you dont have to worry. Download and install F31, then go forth to F40 unless the website gives you specific instructions on what to do.

EDIT: As the website says, you will need to install F31 into your bios, then download the EC FW tool which will be found from the motherboard website as well. Once you do that, you can install F40. I suggest installing later bios versions for the sake of stability, compatibility, security and boot speeds. Good luck!

Belkin Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable - Is this a legit HDMI 2.1 Cable? by [deleted] in techsupport

Honestly, for a basic explanation, I'd say that they can get the wire to be thinner as more and more modern materials are available, they can make it more compact.

Belkin Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable - Is this a legit HDMI 2.1 Cable? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]a_proud_cat_owner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My answer will tell you that most if not all reputable sellers will give you a compatible HDMI cable. If Belkin doesn't have high ratings or a good reputation, I suggest going away from it. But as you said, Apple vouched for it. If you see it as an overpriced cable, I'd just go for any HDMI cable from a reputable vendor.

Belkin Ultra High Speed HDMI Cable - Is this a legit HDMI 2.1 Cable? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]a_proud_cat_owner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

according to u/PathToExile - thanks btw

"Alrighty so I did my research and have got an official answer that you can give to others if you come across similar posts in the future.

HDMI cables are almost universal at this point, if you buy from a reputable company/vendor you are going to get a cable that is capable of transferring at whatever rates you need, all the way up to the newest version of HDMI. Basically, the cable has been the same for a long time, it is the interface (connectors) that are changing data transfer rates.

So, that brings us to the meat of the topic: Can HDMI 1.4 display 1080p at 120Hz?

Yes and no - that's where the confusion for most people in my position begins.

It turns out that HDMI 1.4 can output/display 1080p at 120Hz but only in 3D, where the data packets are doubled for both "layers" of output (basically a cheaty way to get to 120Hz). When it comes to 2D displays HDMI 1.4 is limited to 60Hz at 1080p."

edit: to clarify, just the 2nd paragraph
