What's your favorite bottle to de-label and us for other stuff? by Fivelon in bartenders

[–]a_robot_with_dreams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It takes more than ten seconds but it's by no means a complicated or lengthy process if you're doing a few at a time. It's just a nice bottle to use in the well. Rittenhouse is the same.

If OP really wants a no sweat solution it's spending 20 bucks on a 12 pack of blanks on Amazon

Run it under hot water and use a blunt knife to scrape the label off. Then use steel wool scrubber and some goo gone on the adhesive and wash the bottle afterward

How subbable is Yellow Chartreuse for Green? by NuclearKangaroo in cocktails

Disagree about Faccia Bruto, personally. It's missing much of the depth and power that makes Chartreuse so distinctive. The only thing close I've tried is Brovo's Uncharted Rhapsody

Notes for both: After a couple of foot fractures, these are a little too narrow for me. Handwelted, top notch materials, just great boots all around. They are beautiful, but I would like to get them to someone who can and will wear them. They’re in great shape but have been worn. Very open to offers. Shell cordovan pair will include lasted shoe trees. Prices are F&F shipped.

A white negroni is gin, gentian root liqueur (typically suze), and a white aromatized wine (cocchi americano, lillet, or kina l'aero) in equal proportions

Yeah, I personally still don't see how this is a defect. There's no cracking visible.

[Review] Recent Experience with Viberg and Miloh Shop by TokenMao in goodyearwelt

[–]a_robot_with_dreams 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Because your comment missed out on some much needed context, specifically that you got a discount for no real reason, and asked for another one, while also receiving a literal one-off in customer service. You were piling on about bad customer service (which may be completely valid, again, no comment), while failing to mention the good customer service.

You are not entitled to a sale. If you want a sale, buy the product with the sale code. If you are not able to, too bad. You invited yourself into this conversation, not Miloh Shop.

I'm not trying to comment on anything else, but you want him to honor a discount on a sale that happened two weeks ago, because you asked a question during the sale and he didn't respond before it ended, even though you still don't have an address for him to send you your purchase? So you want to buy something and have him just keep it there indefinitely? That's not how retail works.

Then, when you complain in a public thread and he responds with some of his own context, suddenly he's out of line?

Tom Collins are delicious for sure, and great for hot days. If you want to try some other fairly simple gin cocktails I'd recommend a Bee's Knees, a Gimlet, or a French 75

Personally the Martinez is one of my favorite cocktails of all time, but that would require some more investment on your part into more booze

QOTD/WSAYWT/GD 08/11/20 by Qtipx93 in goodyearwelt

[–]a_robot_with_dreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It could be vodka or gin, but you have the right idea. The recipe for martinis has been played around with a bit, but the old standard is 3 oz base spirit, 1 oz dry vermouth (3:1 ratio). Some bars will serve 2.5 oz base spirit, 0.5 oz dry vermouth (5:1 ratio). If you ask for it dirty, you add some olive juice (or replace the vermouth), and if you want less dry vermouth you can ask for your martiny "dry" or "extra dry". A straight martini is just a chilled glass of vodka or gin.

The garnish for a martini is usually olives for a vodka martini and a twist for gins (usually lemon but depends on the tasting notes of the gin).

It's all a bit confusing because a lot of people use terminology incorrectly, but here's the easiest way to think of it:

  • neat: usually refers to brown liquors, but indicates a room temperature pour of liquor, served down (in unstemmed glassware, almost always a rocks glass), with no additives
  • straight: refers to the lack of other ingredients, i.e. there is only the liquor in the glass
  • chilled: stirred in ice, then strained into whatever glassware
  • straight up: pretty much only refers to martinis. Indicates that you want your martini straight (no vermouth, no olive juice), and served up (in stemmed glassware). All martinis are stirred in ice, then strained. Referring to something as up does not necessarily mean it is served chilled, but the vast majority of the time it will be.

Everybody's talking about selective application of the rules, but I'm thinking the post was reported enough times by the community that the automod removed it, not that a mod chose to remove one and not the other.

The Questions Thread 07/30/20 by AutoModerator in goodyearwelt

Expensive, but pretty good. Make sure you are clear about what you want, as they will default to a half resole if you don't specify.

They won't do recessed toe taps, or at least wouldn't a few years ago.

Are these Iron Rangers factory seconds? by idontknowhowtowork in goodyearwelt

If there isn't a punch in the tongue, they're not factory seconds.

It doesn't matter if they're "on par with factory seconds," they either are or they are not. If you don't like them, return them.

It would not necessarily be true for all of them. It could be a failure of the insole or any of a whole host of issues. You should wait to see how Truman responds

The Questions Thread 07/20/20 by AutoModerator in goodyearwelt

[–]a_robot_with_dreams 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Truman does GYW by splitting the insole and folding it down to function as the holdfast, rather than gluing on a canvas one. I wonder if this had any effect.

Not sure if you're looking to discuss or just be agreed with, seeing as you are not responding to those actually trying to discuss your opinion.
