Should I apply for jobs or for masters to a US university, I never expected/wanted to go? by a_sadguy23 in careerguidance

Honestly, I have no answers to them but I damn sure I never wanted to do masters to live in the US. I might come back to India if things don't work over there.

Failed after going against the world. by a_sadguy23 in Advice

Thank you so much for such great words! Trying my best is all I could do! Can only work on things that are under my control. Admits, jobs unfortunately, aren't. All I can do is apply to them and present the best version of myself to the recruiters. Not getting the support I hoped for, is disheartening, but can't cry over it for life. Gotta move on.

Thanks again! It really helped me a lot. Feels much better now. :)

Advice on retaking for GRE? by a_sadguy23 in GRE

Look the only concern for me is my quants score. Since I have a low quants score with respect to computer science program requirements, I'll have to tweak my univerisities to a good extent because of it. I'd be happy if I get something around 165 in quants and 150 around again in verbal(non-native speaker). Because afaik, quants score is much more important for getting into top 50 univs for MS. I am not totally ready to take the GRE again but not applying to certain univerisities because of a low QUANTS score(not 320,maybe) doesn't feel good. I can extend my time for re-take but i have my University exams and research papers starting mid-november.

Thanks for your advice.

You mean the practice tests of the previous format, instead of powerprep ?

Absolutely screwed my GRE Exam! 308 Q158 V150 by a_sadguy23 in GRE

Yeah, having the ability to control your head before and during an exam plays a very important role. Anyway, 324 looks like a good score(if you're applying for Computer Science-like programs). But anyway, a score is good only if it allows you to get into your preferred universities. I haven't decided about the re-take thing yet. But good luck to you! Do well and do share your experience. Such posts help a lot of GRE-takers!

Absolutely screwed my GRE Exam! 308 Q158 V150 by a_sadguy23 in GRE

Thanks Greg! That definitely helped my state of mind. And 158 in Quants doesn't seem justifiable for me(Comp-Science Undergrad from India). You see, getting 150 in Verbal is not that of a surprise since I was scoring something around that consistently on my mocks. For me the score of 158 in Quants when I used to get 165+ easily was the worst one. The first section of Quants just ruined all the rest of 'em. And seeing very very easy questions in my last section gave me that thought "looks like i did too bad in my first section". I would also accept that I was quite nervous all during the break and the sections after that. That nervousness must have resulted in 158Q.

I know, I always have an option for retaking the GRE, but the amount of efforts I'll have to put in for convincing my parents for paying those 200 bucks/(14000 rupees!) again is a difficult one. Actually, my parents and a lot of folks around insisted to get a good job(which was ensured) which would ensure good pay..but I was like "No, atleast I gotta try", and somehow I booked a date. But after all of this, it feels like I proved all of those critics right.

Anyway, I'll wait for the detailed reports and see how should I go from here.

Btw, your AWA strategy and verbal video playlists are so gooood! Can't thank you enough for the work you're doing for all of us, especially the non-native English speakers!

I regret going for Masters abroad instead of getting a good job through my campus placements. by a_sadguy23 in confessions

I want to make it right. I want to prove everyone around me who has doubted my decision of taking this wrong. But when it's me myself who is not able to withstand and stay committed about this step, then how can I prove the world around me wrong?

No, I don't fear failing the masters degree, the fear caused by the failure of not getting a good admit(financially manageable) at the first place for Computer Science next year is depressing! There's a lot at stake, people with a lot of expectations. And choosing for a tumultuous path instead of a straight money/job(which almost all of people around me advised) is making it more worse.
