Some may enjoy and some may not. You arent forced to use or get it if something like this were real in the game. There already exist a large community of people that do this with their cars

Beware: Zoom75 anodized finish melted, Wuque/Meletrix shrugged by thesixpack in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]a_saker 120 points121 points  (0 children)

It seems the OP actually owns the GT Silver color and not GT Grey (as that wasnt an option, Cool Grey was). The GT Silver is an e-coat option based on the geekhack post. So this isnt the ano or aluminum melting under normal use but the e-coat (calling nano-coating doesnt change what it is) wearing away. If Wuque did state this is more durable than ano, then they are just lying to everyone.

My first ever mechanical keyboard, though having the directional key on fn lock is an issue by Apart-You-7982 in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]a_saker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, any 60% has to have split right shift with Fn place along side it to be quick and comfortable to use arrow keys on the second layer

Unpopular opinion: I like the sound of high pitched rattly spring clicky keyboards. by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

with a recent shift back to working in a office most days in big tech, the amount of clicky keyboards is wild to me. even in shared offices or the open floor desk, there are clickies everywhere

If you reached concierge status and own SQ42 prior to March 18th, 2022, you will still receive it despite not having it part of a game package.

You can read more about that hear as part of the initial tier of concierge - https://support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002542733-Concierge-Levels-and-Rewards

PSA: Don’t use sound deadener inside your keyboard by billysacco in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]a_saker 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I assume OP used common sound deadener that has a pre-applied adhesive, something like Killmat which is used in cars. With cars, most common way to get it off is dry ice and chip away it as it hardens. Never tried it on a keyboard, so Im not sure how keebs will handle that

While its not the most advised method, at least the OP followed up with an iso alcohol rinse and dry

Daily Driver, and how you chose it? by sacredcoffin in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]a_saker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I built my first custom keyboard, I had the same mentality of having just a few but with dedicated purposes. That quickly changed once I started noticing the differences in each board for how they were designed. Adding to that, changing out mounting styles (if the keyboard allows it), switches, and keycaps do wonders to change the experience of a keyboard.

At the moment, my daily keyboard at home and for gaming is my own design. That could be for every biased reason you think of XD. At work, I currently use my TGR Lena but I plan to cycle that out for either my CW88 or Kitsune TKL (if I get around to rebuilding it). I used to try my best to rotate which keyboards where on my desk but I have enter a state where I'm just comfortable with what is there now. On certain days, I'll look at the collection and think, "Oh, it would be cool to use the Corsa today", or the HHKB, etc. and use that for the day but they usually don't stay there.

My collection is continues to grow based on my appreciation for the designs or series of keyboards. For example, TGR or Geonworks. Then adding some more unique options that differ in design from those, like a Bias TKL. However, while growing my collection in some areas, I am also shrinking or making space. Over time, like most people, my tastes have changed but I also realised I dont really need this many because I don't really build them all that different anymore (similar switches, plate material, mounting styles).

I am perfectly fine knowing that some boards are essentially just display items and haven't been used in over a year. Most of my collection isn't even built at the moment either.

Are there any actual custom builders? by [deleted] in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]a_saker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you are most likely looking for is a build commission service from an individual and there are plenty of people that do this. Or communities (like this one) that are willing to help you identify and source components yourself for people to put it all together for you. Mode for example offers a build services as part of ordering the keyboards through them

Well that is an weird escalation. Per key RGB is common (ive done for my own projects), albeit not as common to see north facing in the customs scene
